My wife showed me this ad for Greg's clear cuts & guitar lounge in Santa Rosa (near Bad Ass Coffee). It's a hair salon and used guitar shop.
tagline: "any haircut you can imagine, and used guitars too!!!"
I don't know if it's :huh or :dude

Right by me is a place called something like "Rocker Tattoo and Piercing" and they sell used records and used "Vintage" guitars that would qualify for a laugh as per the "old does not make it vintage" thread.

Marginal ink, and it goes downhill from there.

One place I used to go into was 1/2 pawn shop, 1/2 "real music store".

Problem was... the pawn shop prices and plethora of junk seemed to leak over to the other side of the store.

Is Catello & Son still open in Berlin, NH?

I bought my '65 Strat there in 1980. They sold motorcycles and musical instruments (not that crazy of a combination).

Our band practice space is right near a building that houses liquor store and a gun shop right next to each other.

I think a guitar store/porno shop combo would work. I even have the slogan "Where the strings aren't the only things that vibrate". :bonk

Hey if I won the lotto I would open a wine importing business, with guitars on the side. Mostly so I could have a buncha guitars and amps to play around with while my minions sold the awesome (French) wine I would bring into the country (Ireland).

I haven't won the lotto, yet. ;)

You could ply your customers with wine until they broke down and bought the most expensive guitar.

There was a used music gear/surf shop in downtown Huntington Beach, CA, years ago.

I was just noodling around playing some "outside" pentatonic scales ala 80's shred and the owner says "wow, what kind of scales are those?"

"Richter scales" I said, with a straight face.

"Cool..." he said.
True story!
Once they started developing downtown HB, the shop closed.

I seem to remember one in NY up near the Canada border that was called Gary's Gas, Guns and Guitars. If they sold booze that would be a grand slam.

Funny... Just stopped in Green Shift last week. Strange place and gear would pretty much sum up the place. The only place I've seen that sell's comics, Moog Theremin's, quite a pile of old Kustom plush amps, lot's of Burn's guitars and old tube radio's.

We also have in Tampa Brandon Guitar Gallery and Art and Frame as well.

I got my first bass for Xmas in 1984. My Mom got it at a shop down the road from our house that was called "The Guitar and Knife Exchange". Yep. They sold cheap, crappy guitars and ninja swords. They didn't stay in business very long...

I bought a squire from a guy at a fleamarket just south of here. He has a permanent booth there. He sells guitars and fishing tackle. (both old, beat up, or cheap.) Sometimes he has some cool old stuff though! I actually traded some old fishing tackle I had laying around for half of the price of the guitar!

I went to college in Spokane,WA, and I studied jazz (saxophone) performance there in the late 80s/early 90s.

The best vinyl record store in town in those days was in the back half of one of the skankiest porn shops around.

Funny thing was, you walked in the door, past the videos and stuff, and then had to walk through a little privacy curtain to get to the albums. Which kinda seemed backwards :-)

So Green Shift is still around.

Our local Music Store here opened a Pawn SHop on the other side of the store after they moved to their new location.
The owner's son runs it.

The music part has retained the same flavor however.

That one's odd....I can see the hair salon, get your rig and the right look for onstage!
My friend's store (D-Town guitars) sells used records and CD's of course but they also do skateboards and accesories which kinda's goes with guitar playing!

Not sure if it's still around, but there was a place in Chicago that sold donuts and guitars !

It was a longtime neighborhood donut/coffee place where the owner was into guitars and had a small selection along the wall. Actually I saw some cool vintage stuff in there.

Go grab a six pack and a few boxes of ammo!!! Or a new Desert Eagle.

Used to visit a store in Essex. You walk into metal detectors and electric shavers then round a corner to a massive collection of boutique amps and guitars. Very odd.

There's a guitar store in back of an engineering firm in my town. Most of the engineers there play so I think they became a dealer to get cheap stuff to jam on during breaks. I only learned about it because I used to ride motorcycles with one of the employees. It's a real store but they never advertise and I've never had any of my musician friends mention it to me - very strange.

Houston on shepherd is a place called Rockin robin. Awesome store with a great vintage vibe (srv, bb etc painted huge on the outside) and all sorts of signed memorabilia everywhere along the walls and ceiling.
But the first thing you're greeted by when you walk in is about 1o' of surf boards. Pretty cool to me. Haha. Not really an incredibly odd combo but around here i always thought it was. Beach is close but it's nasty and flat.

Nicest guy who works there I always thought used to be a beach boy caus he had that look. Khakis, flip flops and a half buttoned Hawaiian shirt. Nice as can be. Only nice guy left there in fact. I rarely go cause it's full of jerks behind the counter who at one point used to talk shop and trade stories but now just pass you off unless you're buying. And don't ask to touch anything worthwhile. Unless it's thebeachboy cause he's cool. And he'll sell you a surf board.
