View Full Version : Amp/Speakers with LEAST sizzly extended treble

The frequencies most guitarists I know have the most trouble with are extended hifi high end, the kind that's above the treble control's range. Some amps will have presence controls (turn those DOWN!) and bright switches (OFF!) that can produce ear piercing, filling rattling sizzle, and ensure that dirt pedals sound like a bag of bees.

What I'd like to hear are the amps and speakers that are warm and pedal friendly, and lack extended high end.

In addition to amps & speakers, you could also use an eq unit up front to tame the ultra high end. Use a longer guitar cable too.

Speaker-wise, 12-65s are known for being less fizzy overall than many other speakers.

I'd work with the above before switching amps.

The Cannabis Rex comes to mind. It's actually a bit on the bright side, but so smooth that's hard to notice.

md, funny you should mention that, it's one of my favorites. I have one in my deluxe reverb.
