For shaving....your beard...on your own face.

I started using a double edge safety razor a while ago with very good success, and now I started with a straight. Starting to get the hang of it, but it takes a while to get good at it.
Anyone go this route?

I used to use those for a while, Ive gone back to the Mach 3 in recent years. Reason being Im just too lazy and like to finish asap. They give you a real close shave if thats what youre looking for.

My first job before I got into Guitars for work, was at a knife store, and we sold straight Razors.
I'll give you the sales pitch and some inside info.
A straight razor is guaranteed the closest smoothest shave you will ever have. Period. However If you do not have 45 minutes to shave, do not use it. It takes time, attention to detail, expensive lotions, nice hot water and hot towels. Make sure you are patient, and exacting. If you get bored you could lose your nose. Or give yourself a Columbian neck tie.
Best bet is find an old timey barber shop in your area and have them give you a shave. That way you can see if you like the feeling of it, and watch a pro do it. (Usually they'll give you some tips on how to do it too if you ask). That was how I learned.
And no I don't use one anymore, I work 7 days a week and can't spare an hour to shave my sparse young person non-beard.

With my attention to detail (or lack thereof)... no, I don't think so.

I also have a mid-'60s Super Speed, a Fat Boy and a Schick M2 adjustable in my rotation. They all give great shaves when used with care.

Like I said, I've been using it and getting some good results with it, but it takes practice over time to get better. I don't know of anyone who takes 45-60 minutes to do it, though, and it definately doesn't require hot towels and expensive lotions. Out of the shower, lather up with your favorite brush and soap (or whatever...), and you're good to go. Patience and attention to detail - of course.

DE Safety. Gillette. I've got a few straights, but it takes too long/high maintenance/dangerous when groggy & blurry in the morning. Multi-blade disposables are wasteful, costly, and all around suck.
