How do you work this out? I know I read somewhere of a technique for attaching the velcro without using the adhesive, but can't find info on it. Do you folks just say screw it and put velcro on your very expensive pedals? Or do you have another technique to mount to pedalboard? I recently bought a D*A*M* MKII and am reluctant to velcro it!

Did you buy it to play it or because of it's resale value? Frankly i buy shit to play it, abuse it, spill beer/sweat/blood all over it. So i slap velcro on everything.
Ive seen people make bottom plates and put velcro no those, or they unscrew the bottom and in between the screw and the bottom plate they put they velcro on it with out removing the layer covering the adhesive part.

A little trick: Find a piece of cardstock (I used the cardstock out of the lava cable kit). Cut it to the size of the back of the pedal. Create screw holes in the card stock. Screw through the card stock and the back plate of the pedal. Wa-lah: Cheap surface for attaching velcro to.

Bulldog has a great idea. Me, I just velcro it.

They are tools not jewels. You are going to be stepping on them too.

3M dual lock-it will not damage the pedal's finish-trust me on that. Hard to get up from the board but it is not going to ruin the finish.

yeah, screw on oversized sheets of velcro.

I think most pedals other than BJFE have pretty sturdy finishes. You should be able to put velcro on the MKII without issue. You could consider detacking it against your jeans once or twice if you are very nervous. I always have good luck removing the pedaltrain velcro from pretty much any pedal. Also, if your MKII is a recent one it probably has a powdercoated finish which you will have a touch time damaging with any form of velcro. Alternatively you could buy a 1590P enclosure from pedal parts plus for use as a substitute bottom plate while the pedal is on your board.

I pay for the sound, not the appearance of the bottom plate

This is The Gear Page. Not that you are in the minority in terms of buying gear for the sound, but if you can make a small effort and thus retain the resale value of your very expensive pedals (were talking about a probably $800 fuzz here) wouldn't you do so?

Dude, you're going to step on them. The shit on the bottom of my boots is definitely worse than some velcro adhesive.

I can understand why some people would do this, but I don't really sell pedals that I buy....only 2 in the past 4 years....perhaps I'm selfish, but I have a small home studio and I like having the options, even if they rarely get used. Any pedal that has ever went to a gig gets velcroed without hesitation. I wasn't trying to be negative - the OP did ask who slaps velcro on expensive pedals regardless of value...I think.

Couldn't you simply peel the velcro off and use goo-gone on the remaining adhesive if you are worried that it will effect the resale value when you are ready to sell?

Just step on them! Frankie-just checked out your band-totally killer music and grooves. Great Gretsch collection too. What is on your pedalboard?

For my BJF pedals I buy pedal enclosures off ebay and use the bottoms to replace the bottoms on the BJF's.

I put velcro on my D*A*M MkII the day I got. I probably won't get rid of it, and if I do, I'd rather be able to comfortably play it on my board while I have it and lose a few bucks in the end. But to each his own. I definitely understand why people don't put velcro on them.

Hey, thanks man! I appreciate it!

My pedal board is modest:
Guitar -> X2 Wireless -> Turbo Tuner -> MXR Dyna Comp (modded with a Monte Allums kit) -> Boss BF-2 Flanger -> Keeley Java Boost -> Keeley TS-808 -> MXR Carbon Copy -> Amp

I use the Java Boost for my lead boosts when I'm playing outdoors or places where I can really get the power section cranking on my amp(s). If I'm playing a little more reserved on the volume, I use the TS-808 to boost my solos because it also adds that compressed power section sound.

Did someone say an $800 Fuzz? Seriously? They make one of those?

And $2500 Klons-a pedal that is a nice boost at $279 maybe but $2500-no way-I had 2 Silver Klons long ago and sold them long ago. I still prefer my Fullrive and an occasional Germanium based OD/Frequency Booster to anything else I have tried.

I am using the bicycle chain approach using parts from johnny shred freak in the UK...I am mounting pedals right now as we speak...works great, doesn't mess up the pedals, is very sturdy and can be easily reconfigured with a few screws. I only use velcro on the PP2's and looper becuase there is no other way to mount them.

This is what I was going to say. I just use 3M Dual Lock though. I'm not worried about the bottoms at all when I buy or sell. As long as the pedal works properly, I'm pretty easy going.

I do understand though that some cats do care and that may affect my re-sale value. I don't have to sell anything for less than I want to sell it for, although it may make the selling process take longer.

I bought my Honeybee used for a good price (didn't have to haggle at all. I paid the asking price) and the back plate was missing some paint. Haven't seen the back plate since I attached it to my pedal board and the pedal sounds great.

Realistically if you're paying ridiculous amounts of money for a pedal (like an $800 fuzz) shouldn't it have paint on it that doesn't get ripped off when you remove simple velcro? For $800 I'd imagine the whole case is gold plated, and gold wins against velcro tape.

Removing velcro is easy.

remove back panel. Point a hairdryer at it on high for about a minute. Watch that velcro adhesive just peeeeeeel off. real smooth.

im actually happier when the pedal comes WITH velcro! saves me having to cut it to size and buy more!

just bought a deep blue delay and the guy had cut two braclets of velcro and wrapped it around the bottom plate seems like a great idea cuz its not stuck to the finish.

I just velcro it. I've had a few $400+ pedals and I put velcro on them the day I get them.

So many replies!! Thanks guys. I usually velcro my pedals with no thought, but was just curious if there was an easy way to avoid this on expensive pedals. I don't plan on selling it ever, but you never know what tough times can do. Thanks all, I got the answers I was looking for and more!
