2011 mustangs are going to be sweet. V6 with 305 hp and 30mpg or GT with 415 hp and probably less mileage. You may need a smaller amp though. And sunroofs suck.

I'd buy a new car since I tend to keep them for a very long time.

I've never liked a car more than this:

Hard top and Soft top, best 4wd system ever, love it in the snow. Don't have to baby it. Could be better on mileage, but I've never had a more fun vehicle. No squeekes or issues at about 40k.

Around $28k. Haven't cared for the looks of a Honda in a long time but the V6 coupe is pretty cool in black, red, or gray (with chrome accents).

Haven't been able to bring myself to spend that much on a car yet, though.

2003 Audi RS6. All Wheel Drive, 450 HP stock (easily modded to way more), 0-60 in a bit over 4 seconds, 1/4 mile in the mid 12s, seats four or five adults, was $80k+ new, scarce so you don't see yourself coming every three minutes, fairly bulletproof, but some maintenance can be costly. Can be found for $30k in good shape with low miles.

Daily driver or just for fun car? I think you have the fun side covered.

Mini Cooper S ? BMW 135i ? S2000?

I'd get the best used S-class Audi I could find.

With that $30 grand I would lease a car and put zero down.

I could get a lot of different cars.

Nah, it's a daily driver kind of thing. The Mini cooper may be worth looking at. That used Audi doesn't sound bad either!

For just going A to B, I'd seriously look at that Sonata. And whatever cash I had leftover would go to a beater pick-up truck for doing work around the house (dirt, table saw, motorcycle, etc)

'69 convertible Vette. Put a LS3 with around 638 hp on pump gas. Yes, that should do it.

Sorry. I'd never spend $30K on a vehicle unless I won the lottery. So far, the most we've spent was $16K.

Yer gonna need a LS9 for numbers like that. A supercharged LS3 won't even pull that hard.

It absolutelly will. I have a hot rod shop across the parking lot and he can get close to 600 out on an LS1. He's making a LS3 right now that is going to be 960+ with a supercharger. He's also making a 67 Vette with both a supercharger and twin turbos that he said should be approaching 2500 hp. I don't know how that could happen, but he really knows his stuff. Been in hot rod magazines and all kinds of cool things. His 2000 Vette is 551 with pump gas and 938 with NOS.

A LS9 is a LS3 block with a supercharger on it. Not an LS7.

Subaru Impreza or Legacy. I drive an Impreza now and I'm a Subaru guy. Great vehicles at a great price point.

Buy a van and trick it out.
I have a new Mercedes Vito with DVD/GPS/ipod plug in etc in teh dash, good speakers, alloys, ambulance tint windows roof rax, fully lined, and it rocks the freaking house down. Hepas of poke from the wee turbo diesel and a ton of room to cart stuff. Looks cool too. I dunno Yank prices, but you'd get a new one for your 30K, possibly.
I have windsurfing gear, push-bikes, skateboards etc on a daily basis, and I can put a full bands worth of gear in if need be.
Comfy, quiet and economical and 25 000 km between services.

Think outside the box.

I'd buy what I have. 2008 mazdaspeed 3, spend the extra 10k on installing a big turbo. Voila.

A low miles Infiniti M35.

It's got all angles covered: power, luxury, techno out the wazoo (lane departure, cruise with distance sensing, tire pressure monitors, iPod jacks, DVD, Bose 8 speaker sound, etc), the best leather you'll see short of a Mazerati.... I love this car (bought one near new condition, 20K miles, for $35k 2 years ago, it's probably $30k today for the same car).

Only niggles: Nav system doesn't let you do much while driving. Cab noise is a little louder than I'd like.

Well, trying to keep an even comparison if possible. It seems you can't get a whole heck of a lot for $30K anymore. I think the best thing is to find a clean, low mile used more expensive car that has depreciated to $30K.
