I want to get one of these but they are too rich for my blood.
Therefore, I am thinking about building a clone of this.
Anyone done this here at TGP?
I understand a few TGP members build (and sells) guitars as such but I haven't been in contact with them yet. I might just have someone build it for me.
I would like to see what others think and it would be great if you can share your ideas. Component sourcing isn't too big of a deal except I haven't seen anyone who sells the pickguard for this guitar...

Csapo, I saw the pictures of your guitar on one of your previous posts. I looks flatout awesome! So did Okie source all the parts and put it together for you?
If we have enough guys interested in doing this maybe we can do it all together! It should be a boat load of fun!!!
Sodapopinski, it would be a tough task to explain. :-)
I've been sucked into Fender Custom Shop's marketing tactics way too many times, but this one is a bit out of the range. Maybe they wanted to weed out regular CS customers for the real elite exclusive group...

Where is Southern Il Planster?? Jeff has been doing these before Fender CS I believe, look him up- His work looks real nice.

I may be interested in getting a clone and jumping in with the rest of you guys... depending on the cost though, since work has been really slow for me lately, but I would like to request 2 volume knobs and 1 tone knob... :)

I have one here right now. Built is as a possible model for the branded line but probably will not run with it. I used a 3 barrel tele bridge, powertron plus in the bridge, powertron in the neck. Used it last night at practice and it just makes you want to play ZZ Top! Great spin on a classic design.

Okie's builds are terrific as are the ones by RS Guitarworks-I have their Rockabilly Jr (#1/prototype and it is a smokin' guitar)

I went through this a while ago. Wanted an RS Rockabilly (and probably still will get one some day), but decided to find a doner tele that played really well and then change pickups and bridge. Lucked out on a used Japanese Fender with a re-worked v neck that played wonderfully. One call to TV Jones and some pots and caps and it's one of my favorites for well under the $1k mark. There's just something about Trons in a Tele that I love.

I go for a little different vibe......but rear routed is no problem.
Check out the vendors section for info or PM.
I don't have the time to do piece work.....supply parts and that type thing.....
Any of the builders mentioned here are silly good for fair money.

Thanks very much.
I gave Okie my wants and specs and he came back with a few key suggestions for improvement, which I signed off on.
At a recent gig, I went back and forth between Okie's build and my black K-Line strat. My two favorite guitars to play.
I always love seeing Sothern ILL's work. Great stuff!!!!

Thanks so much......
Just the value you get from the smaller builder......they can adjust "your" spec. and very rarely is it ever a up charge.
Maybe the Easter Bunny will bring ya some cabbage for a plank.

I'd also suggest Creston. My Creston is the best Tele I've ever owned and one of the best I've ever played. He's got a lot of neat guitars in that vein in the gallery on his website, and he's a really cool dude to work with. He's building me another one right now that was my reaction to hearing the La Cabronita, actually. TV Classic in the neck, low-wind Imperial in the bridge, and a Bigsby for good measure. Plus the Sarah Ryan paint treatment. It's going to be so awesome when that guitar shows up.

+1 for Creston and Jeff at Southern, Ill also-some really great builders now and don't foget Jeff Senn-he has a killer La Cabronita style on his website now and Chris at K-Line is also a master.

Bob at Logan Customs here in SE Wisconsin, has made at least one. Someone over on the tele forum (TDPRI) has one. I've wanted one for a while now. Maybe a thinline with Powertrons.

I had Bob build one for me, & I know of at least several others that are similar & inspired me to go with Logan. So glad I did. I've had mine for a few weeks now & I love it more & more every time I play it.

BTW, the R'N'R Relic is awesome, as is your build, Tweedledee. I love these type of guitars.

I've started work on mine as well. I had a 2 pickup sugar pine body made and have started the finishing process. I'm still undecided whether I'll go shell pink or burgundy mist, but I've got a few days to decide. I'm very excited.
Here are a few pictures that I've been looking at a lot trying to decide which color I'll go with:
Sherwood Green

I have just got to jump in here. I built this out of a pine body and parts just kickin' around my bedroom. I used a Gretsch pickup and I now understand all the buzz. This thing rocks and it's something that I can beat up without caring !

@Brianeharmonjr: I'd go with Ocean Turquoise or lake placid blue, i really dig the old school hot rod vibe those colours have, i think it really fits with the guitar.
I really hope to start a build with this soon

Where can I buy a pickguard for a reasonable price if I were to put together this guitar? I am in the process of putting a BOM together and I can't figure out the pickguard part. Any ideas?

I purchased form Amazon some 1/8" flat stock plastic. I created a pattern from a piece of white paper. The plastic then can be cut with heavy shears. I used a pair of metal duck shears to hunk out a rough shape. I then used a Dremel with a sanding wheel to shape. One could use a rough file to get the same result. Final sanding was all by hand.

Looks like you did one helluva job!
It looks great. I am pretty good at making things but I don't have the courage to cut my own pickguard... :(
