Is there something I'm missing as to why it would be removed ???

Man, I'd just leave this one laying there... :)

no, really man. Is it because the statement was made by a politician? Not trying to start something here but a solid answer as to why it was nuked is all I'm asking.

It's a move to save face. You don't want us Canadians and the rest of the world questioning the intellect of members of *ah-hem* that sort of position in your country. ;)

Ask a mod directly in a PM might be a good way of finding out.

maybe it tipped over and sank? :D

Or a Mod could just explain right here why on earth it would be removed and lock the thread. Again, not trying to cause any grief but I'm sorta baffled by this one...

I love threads that question the mod's behaviors. They usually end up with locks that I can be in before.

I think this guy just spoiled the finale of "Lost."

They're pretty clear that no politics is allowed. I made a Sarah Palin joke two years ago and got suspended immediately. They censor content here. It's how it is. It isn't my choice, but it's also not my forum. There's plenty of other places on the interwebs to make fun of dumb politicians. I'd list them but I'd get banned!

Because they keep going political and it's like Groundhog Day for the moderators. Twice already today and then the requisite "What happened to the xxxx thread" here. Kill me now. :messedup :D

Fair enough Scott, appreciate the response. I didn't get to see the Mark I version otherwise I wouldn't have posted it. The fact that I did grow up on an island makes this particular deal pretty freaking funny to me. Dude was all about the reefs though, and that I respect. ;)

I kinda got my shorts in a twist once when an innocent thread I started was pulled and I picked up two points. It wasn't political, but it did involve a politician. I started it; and I happened to leave the house and never saw any of the responses.

Here's the deal. It's just not worth toying with anything even remotely political. The OP can't control the replies, and the Mods shouldn't have to babysit threads. So yea, we miss out of discussing some things that border the political world. But it's been proven again and again that people, even when their intentions are good, will inevitably derail threads deep into politics*.
Yes I was ticked that I was dinged for 2 points, but I got over it. And I saw the light.

*Guns being the one exception. People stick to gear and not policy.

I was right there with ya dude! Yeah, felt good to be IBTL on that one. :beer
Good times, good times. Someday, we'll tell the kids about that thread...

[EDIT] Damn, I need to stay away from TGP after a couple of beers... my posts tend to be way out of character...

No problem.

When we catch things early, we get the "what happened to the xxxxx thread?" thread (like this one ;) :D )

When we don't catch them in time it's either, "You play favorites with your selective moderation!" *or* "I got an infraction for that and then you just let them get away with it!" *or* "You still suck!"

It's sort of a fun thing after a while; you are damned if you do and damned if you don't as a moderator. You cannot, ever... never, ever.... win. ;) :D

Don't sweat it; I'm not really trying to break your balls. It's just grist for the mill...

I find the mods fair, even though I am partisan. But also, I find the *locked* threads to be a great deterrant. Not questioning your judgement, but they prevent these Q threads, and they can be avoided by using the locked thread option, without issue.

Another 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' paradox.

If we leave it up locked (which we often do) with the offending posts deleted out; folks question (often in a corollary thread) 'why was that locked? I don't see anything that would get it locked....'

*and/or*

If we leave it locked but leave the offending posts undeleted, often we are nailed (sometimes in a corollary thread; but more often via email, PM or crushed on other forums, as either playing 'favorites' by trying to embarrass folks that we 'don't like' or the offending posts are requested removed by the posters that did them for their own reasons.

It's not fun glamor and free beer; trust me. The best way to make someone understand is let them moderate; assuming they are not insane to begin with... they often have a very different perspective on all these 'issues'.

TGP is member policed and moderator enforced. We have over 9,500+ new posts every day. Every day. It's like herding cats sometimes. ;) :D

Crap - you guys get free beer over here? I must remember to add that to my list of demands on the site(s) I moderate! :D

I'm more worried about the Gulf of Mexico drying up when all the sea water rushes into all those now empty natural gas wells. Seriously. This is the kind of things I think about. You should too.
