Having sold my CR Sig2 to put some stuff in my studio a few months back, I've been really jonesing for a new TR. To make it even more of a necessity, my Roccaforte is on loan to my son out of town.

The original plan was to buy another CR Sig2, but I just plunked down a depost on...

The 10th Anniversary model!

50 Watt, SS rectifier seems to be the version to suit me. I like the idea of the FET boost that can be switched in or out, the twin contour controls, and some of the other features that I believe will result in even more versatility for my recording needs. And I like 50 Watt TRs, so didn't want to reinvent the wheel and try a 100 watter.

The SS rectifier is supposed to be a bit tighter, and that I like.

As most TR fans can imagine, I'm pretty stoked! So I had to share. And no worries if you're a purist and don't like the idea of the FET boost - I'm still good with it, think it's a great idea to make an amp even more flexible, since it can be switched out.

I guess we shall see if this amp gives me the same goosebumps that my beloved Onyxes and CR did, I'm sure it will. And if it sounds a little more gainy than the CR, an amp I love, that's still a plus!

It's a great amp, I had the 50 watt dual rec and it was sweet! The SS rec will give a bit more headroom that you will dig. The cleans on these are beautiful with the best reverb outside of the Sterling Sig/Custom Cleans! (IMHO)

Congratulations Les. The 10th Anni is a great amp. I also like the 50 Watt TR, but I prefer the tube rectifiers. I'm wondering if a TR can have both tube and SS rectifiers with a switch to choose between them. (or would that infringe on Randal Smith's patent )

Thanks Darko!

I planned to go with another CR Sig2, but when it came time to make the final decision, I figured, "Why not try something different?"

Hopefully the cleans on the 10th Anni model will be as good as on the CR, because those are the best I've heard. The basis of my picking the 10th Anni as the new amp is hoping for the ability to get an extra range of overdriven sounds using the FET. That'd be great for my work, that often requires recording sounds I wouldn't typically dial up for my own playing style.

If I can dial up the almost Marshally kind of OD that the Onyx was capable of, it would be a plus!

I'm really looking forward to checking it out!

I just fell in love with my 100-watt 10th again... I was actually trying to sell it. :worried I decided to give it another spin, and that was it.

I had some short bottle Tung-Sols in it and it sounded good. I decided to stick in a set of my new tube favorite, the tall bottle TADs. Yikes; scary good... and it's not going anywhere!
