6505 smoothing out sound

I think this really smooth sound i'm talking about is called the brown sound. I have tried every EQ in the book for my amp. I've tried turning the volume down (along with the tone) I've even tried using my fingers a slide and turning my tone down then but it always sounds kinda rough. this was great when i wanted to play metal and stuff. My guitar teacher says i should convert to el34 tubes. I said I should probably switch speakers too.
My questions
A.) is it possible to switch to el34s ( or would a different tube work better in it.
B.) what speakers should I change too.
c.) do i need to do either of these things or just get a pedal.
D.) if i do need to do either of these things, do i need to do both or just one.
E.) if A works which EL34s should i use

Install a choke.

Stick with 6L6's. EL34's are always rougher sounding to my ears. Find a speaker thats closer to the tone your after. (G12-65 or similar is a good starting point)Replace the pre amp tubes(notably the input and later gain stages) with old stock and, or yeah ,check the bias too. Bob

The 6505 Plus is smooth as velvet. The 6505, not so much. All the same, get it checked out by a good, experienced tech. Your tubes could be shot, your electrolytics could be shot, or your bias could be way off.
BTW, you don't need EL34s, and that may call for extensive modifications. The 6505 was designed and built for 6L6s which already have a warm sound.

my current rig has been trying to steer away from pedals and just get more skilled and have better tone. so i have been using just my brian moore and my 6505 combo. So is it suggested that i just a tube upgrade, and dont change the kinds of tubes ai have along with finding a good set of speakers.
