That is just awesome. 765 HP at the wheels. My modded RS6 has shy of 500 HP at the wheels and runs high 11s to low 12s and that is hauling ass. I can only imagine what a 9.9 in a street car must be like. Ha! Bet the mods to that GT-R were big $$$!

I wanna know what they do, to keep the gearbox from shredding. It's well known to have reliability issues with the bone stock motor. Let alone one that's got double the HP, and TQ.
Fast Fast ride though. I'd like to know how much it cost to make it go that fast.
Jade
The GT-R can tear itself apart stock using the launch control (as you know.)
I have no idea how they keep it together. Maybe they don't - get a few 9 second runs and hope it doesn't rip itself apart, and if it does, rebuild. Not an uncommon approach.

Bet the mods to that GT-R were big $$$!
back when I was a wanna-be gear head, I approached an engine builder about redoing my 318 V-8. I asked how fast it could go, and he asked "How fast do you want to spend?"
I used to have a fantasy about stuffing a 426 elephant into my dodge dart.

It gets to a point where the law of diminishing returns starts to cost an arm and a leg.
To squeeze another half second out of my car (if that) would cost $10k at this point, I bet. Better to just move to a different car (like a Z06 or ZR1 Vette, which are blazing fast to begin with.)

Well by your criteria, I suppose the best sports car in the world is a Rolls Royce... Bentley... Maybach? GREAT interiors.
The point of the GT-R, and the ZR1 is to go fast in a straight line, and around the twisties, and in that capacity, the ZR1 is clearly superior to the GT-R. Not to mention it doesnt have an advertised "Launch Mode" that voids the warranty if you use it. Great feature that one.

It really makes no difference to me though. I can't afford either one of them, and my current ride already runs 11's/12's, and get's more attention than both of em put together.
Of course the Interior SUCKS!

im a huge zr1 and corvette fan. but the nissan is the best car in it's class.
its almost 40k less than a loaded zr1.
the interiors are about the same quality.
it has a ton of fun useful features
it rides like a sports car should
and, around nurburgring, its so close to a zr1 that it doesnt really make a difference. .4 seconds is pretty damn close.
id still take a z06 over it for the same price, but the corvette fans, that have been saying the claim for years that the vette is the best performance car in the pricerange, have to realize, in the simple performance per dollar category, there is finally something to match it. to be honest, im glad. the corvettes have been getting a little rediculous with the pricing lately. you could get a top of the line z06 c5 for around 50k. that price has bumped up 50% for the c6 generation and 125% for the zr1. a lot more car, but the corvette is quickly becoming unobtainable to the masses (for the z06 and zr1) which is one of the things that appealed to me for the brand in the past.

Corvettes definitely deserve respect, and when I cared more about my vehicles, my original goal was to beat C5 Z06s in a straight line (twisties weren't a problem with the C5s). Turned out to be a bit more expensive than I thought. :)
My beef with them is that they are EVERYWHERE. At least the R35 has a unique feel. When I see one, I look twice. When I see a Vette, I don't care.
The LSx is arguably the best V8 in production today, but nothing beats the sound and feel of a big turbo (or a couple of smaller twins) spooling.

Hehe, indeed a happy medium. :)
I just find linear power delivery to be boring. Sure, it is more sensible in terms of having a well-rounded sports car, but it's a lot more fun when that turbine starts to spin and all hell breaks loose.

Anyway you look at it the Nissan GT-R is a better car than the Chevy Corvette ZR1.
OK, the vette ran around the Nürburgring 3/100's of a second faster, but the GT-R is a better driver on long trips, and the Nissan is about $25k less.

again. subjective. ive sat in both. and a coworker just bought a gtr. the vette is more comfortable. but the gtr has more supportive seats. why would the gtr be better on long drives? they are both two seaters (practically), hight horsepower, faster than anyone could NEED on a street. But one isnt better than the other. The nissan wins in cost. Everywhere else they are probably equal and out of 100 people. id guess about 50 would choose each (in a diverse crowd).
me personally, the vette is nicer looking, sounds better, has a better sound system (never thought id say that about a vette) and has a better racing heritage (in america).
but im not the kind to trash the nissan. why does everything have to be a competition.

really? for a long drive, you arent getting more than 2 people in the car. im not sure which trunk has more room, but the vette has a ton of room behind the seats. the GTR has two useless seats in the back, and a tiny trunk that you have to drop things straight down into to get to. the GTR also has much better side bolstering, which while better on the track, doesnt add to comfort for long drives.

I just compared the Nissan GT-R to the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 w/3ZR on the Nissan website and this is what I found.
Price.
Nissan GT-R - $80,790.00
Chevy Corvette ZR1 - $106,880.00
Wheelbase.
Nissan GT-R - 109.4 in
Chevy Corvette ZR1 - 105.7 in
Length.
Nissan GT-R - 183.1 in
Chevy Corvette ZR1 - 176.2 in
Interior space.
Nissan GT-R - 79.0 ft
Chevy Corvette ZR1 - 52.0 ft
Leg room.
Nissan GT-R - 44.6 in
Chevy Corvette ZR1 - 43.1 in

My god, you guys could complain about waking up to Eva Mendes in your bed. Seriously.
Regardless of if its your thing or not, all of the cars posted in this thread are absolutely incredible. Most of the people on this forum are old enough to remember when cars were good (1957-1974) then when they started to suck (1975-1980), then when they were complete garbage (1980-1990), when they started to slowly get better (1990-2000), when they started to get awesome (2001-2005) and now look.
I mean seriously, lets put this in perspective. For under 50k dollars you can turn around and buy a car from damn near any of the major companies that will run absolute circles around anything from the heyday of the 50's and 60's (and yes, I've owned and messed with PLENTY of cars from those generations), start every time, pass current emissions standards and get decent mileage.
For under a 100k you can buy cars that will make FIVE HUNDRED (or often more) horsepower on PUMP gas while doing all of the above.
Hell there are a couple near the 250k mark that are close to 1000hp.
OR you can go out and buy most things in the 30-100k range and bring them to astronomical horsepower numbers often with some compliance towards drive-ability and longevity. Who cares if it has 4 cylinders, 6, 8, 12, w16 whatever. Its all INCREDIBLE and if we can't admire and respect a car for that then frankly whats the point. I've built and restored first gen firebirds and hot rodded newer Volvo's just because I could. THATS the spirit of hot rodding.
The technology, innovation and industriousness exhibited so many of these shops now is staggering. As a message board dedicated whats the coolest new piece of boutique gear I figured we all appreciate this. Its not limited to new cars either, lots of this newly learned technology, advances ect have been applied to iron from the 50-60s as well. You can buy just fantastic crate motors, parts, ect that all see innovation and improvements driven by modern cars. Hell, you can buy freaking LS6's straight from Chevy and drop them in whatever you want. How awesome is that?
