What other pickups sound close to the PRS 5708s?

Tried a new McCarty with the 5708 pickups the other day and really liked their spanky single coil meets full humbucker sound.

It would be great to put some of those in my McCarty, but I have to ship my guitar to PRS and then pay out $475 for them to install them. :bonk

And they won't do installs on other brands.

Anything else come close?

I'd rather do the install myself and save a little money on the labor.

If I still lived in Maryland I'd probably go for it, but ... I'm not too thrilled about trusting UPS or FED EX with my guitar.

I've shipped 4 or 5 guitars to the PRS PTC.... without any problems. As far as what's close??? I haven't found anything. The set I got from Howard Leese are truely special in my Hiland.

I'm not as worried about PRS as I am about the shippers ...

still might talk myself into doing it .... then pulling the pups and doing it again so I can get a set for my Les Paul ...:D

Then again he's asking $450 ... might as well let PRS install them at that price. It would end up being about the same cost if I let a pro install them for me locally.

I'll PM him tonight and see if I can get in on the bidding.


Just thinking that at $475, plus shipping a guitar, something like a set of Tom Holmes pups are worth looking into as well. I'm curious as to how they would compare.
