I'm upgrading my Mac Pro storage. I'm starting with moving the OS to an intel SSD, but I need more deep storage for my photos. Is there a consensus on the best 2TB internal HD? Seagate? Western Digital? Looking forward to your informed opinions, and thanks!

All HDs are subject to failure. They are also subject to loss through fire, flood, theft, etc. My standard advice is to buy two along with an external enclosure. Periodically backup to the external drive and store that drive at another location.
Also if you can wait until later this year on the SSD, Intel will be releasing their next generation of SSDs then. Capacity and speed should be significantly improved. Hopefully by then we should also see a comprehensive solution for degradation of performance in SSDs.

Already my standard practice. I'll be pulling my existing 1TB drives and storing them off site after data transfer. Mostly I'm curious if anyone has had particularly good or bad experiences with the drives I'm interested in.
Thanks for the additional info on the SSDs - I may delay a bit on that basis (I hope - things are getting pretty tight even now.)

I recently bought a 2 TB disk from Hitachi, good price and solid performance.

I work in a video production company and we're constantly dealing with HUGE files. We've been very happy lately with the Lacie Rugged XL "Life Proof" 1TB drive. It's very affordable as well.
