he gets a lot of emails, so sometimes he responds right away, sometimes it takes him a while
I'd just wait patiently, the list is a bit backed up at the moment due to the pig mine etc.

Not in my experence.
Basically you have the 4 month wait (or more) and then he sends you a notification when he sends it.
He has always answered my emails within a week or so.
Also make sure your spacific in your email title or you might be deemed as spam.

Is your order late? If not, I will tend to skip a status request if I'm really busy. I always flag emails which demand an answer, but now I've got like a hundred flagged emails! And, you know what sucks? My wife thinks I spend too much time on the "internet," which answering emails gets thrown into the same bucket, along with forums, etc. So, yeah; I have many, many pending questions that I have yet to get back to. But if your order's not due yet, maybe it's not as high on my quick-answer priority list. We are busting out some back-ordered stuff and working hard on getting caught up. Everybody's order is a little bit late, but other than Pig Mines, we're not far off the 5-month estimated lead time right now.

Srly; I got called to bed last night before I could get all my important emails answered. I'll keep trying! Got a lot of shipping to get out and circuit testing to do, plus take my kid to school today, etc.

have you considered "email bankruptcy"?
just send a general message to all unanswered emails explaining the problem, that their message has been deleted and if their message still requires a response, to resend their message
