Under $900. Solid body. I miss that fullbodied p-90 tone....been listening to Live at Leeds a lot. Classic grind.

Gibby SG Classic. New is only a bit over $900...used, even cheaper, obviously. Seen em as low as $650.

I played an SE soapbar about a month ago, and it wasn't very impressive. The whole SE line feels like that to me. They seem like cheaper guitars than what they cost.

Thanks guys. I've always wanted an SG classic. I'm a Reverend guitar guy......but it's a PITA finding the right model at one of their dealers if you can find some in stock. MF has a used SG Classic for about $200 off normal, tempting.

SG Classic is amazing. But, those PRS Se and MM Axis are nice ones, too!

A bit higher than the $900 the OP stipulated... :o

I'd suggest looking for an LP Studio Gem from the '90s in our Emporium. :aok

I haven't played one but this Telecaster variation looks interesting.

With P90s??? I don't see it on the GC website. :huh

This one's from the "'09 Special Run Series" ... Gibson has endless 'Special' and 'Limited' series, so that's not a huge deal... however, they're ~$1,500 at L&M this side of the border! :jo The 'regular' humbucker worn mahogany LPs are only $960...

you can find a used usa hamer special in the $600 range

imho, of the already mentioned p90 guitars, used usa hamers are the best bang for the buck............

just my 2 cents, ymmv

I really like the Epiphone '56 Les Paul Goldtop. it is a terrific guitar, especially for the under $500 price tag. Besides that the PRS Se are also good. The Gibson SG Classic is more $$ but is a real nice guitar. Many people think the the SG Classic might be Gibson's best bargin now, and I am one of them. I have a '96 Led Paul Special Double Cutaway that I adore, if I ever had to give it up, I would replace it with a SG Classic.

Played a Vintage brand guitar the other day that was an LP special with wilkinson noise cancelling p90's. It sounded and played great! I want one!

Don't discount the Epi '56 goldtop RI. I have one and it is built like a much more expensive instrument and has really sweet LP tones. I was very pleased with the tones I get for the money. This guitar may or may not be a lucky good one but I plan on hanging on to this find for good. There is a slight run in the finish against the top few frets, a little swipe of gold just a little too far around the finish cove but to me thats character with this one. After all it is not furniture, it is sound and it makes me smile when I play it. At first I had tuning issues, but those were managed with a re-string and some graphite in the nut slots, which by the way were cut perfect. This guitar also has the lowest action wth no buzz as any of my guitars and feels solid as a LP should in the hands.
Try a few.

Another vote for Epi Les Paul. Try before you buy though because quality control is spotty. Some real nice inexpensive ones there if you look.

Search "Epiphone Les Paul Special" on Musician's Friend. They just released a version with two P-90s, and it's less than 400, if I recall.

Used: I would go Gibby Special 55... they are kind of rare, but killer vintage gibby vibe.

New: PRS SE soapy... finish feels plasticky and the frets are not my favorite, but crank the amp up and it has THAT sound (without a pickup swap to boot). Nice gig bag too.

You can buy new and used Les Paul JRs all day long for under $900.

Paid $600 for my used '07 with HSC. Best $600 I ever spent. I can't put this guitar down. It's absolutely my favorite. And the stock P90 just roars!

Good point! I have never heard a bad word about Reverend guitars. I have been intrigued by their Pete Anderson Signature (dual P-90 hollow body.) But they are hard to find. I have never seen one in person.

There is a Les Paul Studio Gem Series listed on this site for $850.00. I use to own one myself... the P90's sound incredible. Gibson produced these for a year or two? (1996-1997 I believe).

Another Vote for Reverend. I had a Roundhouse 290 and it was a fantastic guitar in every sense except it felt "necklong" to me when standing. It's a totally personal thing and also the reason I don't have an SG. It wasn't neck HEAVY, it just felt like the neck was extended too far for me. Those come up all the time on the Emporium. I still miss that guitar. I've got a cheap SX "Callisto" Les Paul Jr that's really a fan-freakin'-tastic guitar for the money but I had to align the bridge (see also pull the posts, fill them and move them over/redrill etc: fairly extensive surgery).

Bottom line: If you already like Rev's, I'd look out for a Roundhouse.

I just picked up one of the SX Callistos, and am really quite blown away at so much guitar for so cheap. The fretboard and frets are perfect... they came polished and look nicer than my Pleked '08 LP. It sounds better than my XT series P-90 Hamer.

Aw man! TV Yellow!!! They weren't offering that when I got mine or I'd have jumped. I love that color. Mines kind of a root beer burst. I really, really love the P90's in that guitar. They're just nasty. Obviously in a good way.

Reverend P90's are fabulous! If it's gotta be LP-style get an older roundhouse290 for around five bills. Bolt-necks? They make a jetstream290 that sells new around $800. Check the reviews anywhere.

Agile AD-201 - I have an older one with the tummy cut and I had Mick @ Manlius wind new pickups for it and I put new electronics in and it's an awesome playing and sounding guitar. Mine's cherry, all mahogany and might as well be a one piece body.

Also note that the one I got has a more rounded horn... the one in the website picture is more pointy... that is the old body style, which is thicker and bigger. the new ones fit in a standard LP case. the older ones didn't.

I've had two of these... love the pickups.

The Peavey Firenza is a good choice for P90 sound on a budget. Excellent quality American made solid mahogany body with countersunk TOM and stop tail to get the action down with the maple/rosewood/15" radius/25" scale bolt on neck. The P90s are nicely hot. Mine weighs 8 pounds. The top horn strap button is at the 12th fret, making it hang/feel shorter than most.
