Hey guys, I traded away my JCM 2000 DSL 401 today for a traynor mark 3 combo. Let me tell you, this thing sounds amazing, but now I need a distortion pedal:roll I am not usually a clean player, and have been having a blast with this thing for over an hour now and thought I would post up. Everything seems to be working fine except maybe the tremolo. Should it be activated if there is no footswitch? Because the reverb is on and the trem is not, but I don't have a footswitch plugged in. I have the two button Marshall switch and need to get a stereo > 2 mono adapter and it should work fine (according to some accounts online i found through these forums).
I love how 4 screws get you right in the chassis, and the ptp wiring and ENORMOUS "dynamite" caps look soo sweet. The schematic on the top cover is a nice touch too. Anyhow, some terrible pics from my horribly lit room!!!

Stick a dummy plug into the fs jack. I think the trem turns on then.
In many ways these are all the amp anybody ever needs.... with pedals.

hm, i tried the dummy plug idea. as i turn up the intensity knob, the output of the amp goes down once i pass 5. the speed knob does nothing to the output. this help narrow things down? or maybe a dummy plug wont activate it?

...ok...plug in a cable and touch the tip to chassis ground....it HAS to be one or the other.

you shouldn't need to use a dummy plug with it - i've had several vintage traynors including 2 mark 3s - the tremolo on them is always an issue - i've had to get the tremolo circuit rebuild on most of them - the trem and reverb on the mark 3s aren't anything special - find yourself a traynor custom reverb head - they're killer!!!!

haha, find a new amp...i just got this today. ill try touching the tip of a patch cable to ground, but i should have no trouble rebuilding the trem circuit myself if i need to. thanks for all the help, and ill keep updates

Unfortunately, snacker is right. As soon as I get a new [vintage] Traynor, I get excited about finding another. I don't have a YGL-3, though. I might get a head version at some point.

well considering i have not had money for guitar stuff in FOREVER, the only way i could get another amp would be to sell something else and i only have this amp and 2 guitars, and it took me years to get here, so thats not happening.

I live in a part of the world where if you wait long enough, a vintage Traynor will come to you cheaply. $250 Canadian for my YBA-3 is probably the most expensive of the lot. I have two YBA-1's [one tube-rectified], a YBA-2, four YVM-1's, two YGM-3's, and a YBA-4 in a head cab, in addition to the big YBA-3.
I like'm.

nice, ever have the tremolo problem i described with any of them? i switched the v1 tube from channel 1 preamp with v3 from the trem oscillator, and now the tremolo works, but only when the knob is past 7. and the volume still drops off as you turn it up from here. im leaning heavily towards a dried up cap, but a couple of the resistors in that area look so-so too.

Schematic heaven has the entire manual for your amp. The resistor in-line with the trem. speed pot might be a problem.
Your tremolo works like a Fender using a photo cell.

thanks for the page. didnt know the lower input had more gain. but i have the same schematic on a piece of paper inside the amp, still in perfect condition too. its glued to the cap that comes off to see the internals.

holy shit this amp kills! so glad i found out about the lower input (gotta facepalm myself for not seeing that one). that plus just the boost side of my wasabi od got me all the drive ill ever need, and i got everything inbetween by turning the switch on/off and playing with my volume knob. i feel like i just discovered guitar again or something
