I used a National Medium for years. It isn't as unwieldy as some. Ultimately, I stopped using one in favor of my thumbnail.

I agree. Even w/ one filed down so it more closely resembles a regular flatpick I could never get on w/ upstrokes played w/ a thumbpick. I wish I could because 5 fingers is better than 4.

built up the calaus on my thumb, so much better than the thumb pick, really found that they limited what I could do. The thumb pick does make it easier to palm mute the top strings, but I can do the same with the calaus
