Got my July issue of VG yesterday. As promised by AnnieGetYourGuns posting here, her interview with Drew is one of the featured articles. Yay!

Great stuff. Everything you wanted to know about Drew -including most all the questions TGP members asked her to ask- and a bunch more.

Full info on Drew's influences and early years, playing style, the legendary Steely Dan tour gig -including his Steely Gear ....up through what's happening now.

Bonus: news about his upcoming CD.

I haven't checked out the rest of the issue yet, but VG is always good, imoho. As a longtime Drew fan, Ann's fine interview of him was a must read for me.

Yay!

Gosh, I grabbed it out of the mail last night late and read just read the Drew thing-nothing else, yet.

It's newer than the Paul Reed Smith issue on their site. I vaguely remember a big semi-hollow electric on the cover, not who may have been playing it:). Drew's name is in big letters in red at or near the top of the featured articles listing on the cover.

If someone else doesn't chime in, I'll post the cover info when I get home tonight.

It's hot off the presses..

Sure.

The picture on the cover of the new (July) Vintage Guitar mag is indeed a big hollowbody electric. an offwhite (or whatever) Gretsch 6125 tenor (4 string) guitar. No one is playing or holding it.

There's a smaller pic of Bill Kirchen 'tele-ing' out in the upper left hand corner with his name under it, then Drew's name is there in big letters (not red, but white ones) and the subtitle "Here, There, Everywhere..."

So look for the new VG with the big white/ivory Gretsch tenor guitar on the cover.

Enjoy!

Does anyone know, can you buy an internet version of this issue? I'm unable to see, so grabbing the magazine doesn't help me, I really want to read this interview. They post old interviews on their archives page, but it takes one to two years. Still waiting for them to post the Allen hinds interview.
Thanks in advance,
Kurt

I don't think VG offers current issues via internet. If anybody knows anything different, pls correct me.

I did notice a 'features" section at VG online that has select artists' feature articles presented in full there. The most recent was from May 2010. Pehaps the Drew feature (July 2010) will make it to this spot.

just posted the comments below on another Drew thread, will put them here too -as they apply:

You can follow the CD's progress on FB by friending "Drew Zingg's Debut Album Project." There may be other pages too, but this will loop you in.

While on the VG site I found a clip of Drew playing with Boz Skaggs on "Loan Me A Dime." Seems like a fairly recent performance. Pretty cool clip. Even with the fan-cam audio. you can still feel the heat when Drew takes his solo, approx 3:45 into it.

I also enjoyed Boz's always tasty, opening solo on this one..

Bump for a great article on a player who doesn't get nearly the press he deserves.
