So my brother brings over his crate palamino amp the other day and the tubes were ancient. In fact in pulling out one of the pre-amp tubes one of the prongs broke off. So I have some Tung Sol pre's laying around and put them in the other night. I was too tired to check it right after I put them in but earlier I go to fire up the amp and everything about the amp appears to be working correctly except I can't get and input. Another wards turn the volume up and she hisses like a banchee but when I plug the cord in nada... WTF........??????

Actually the pin broke after I pulled the tube out. Whats strange is if I dime everything on the dirty side and plug in the guitar is amplified very faintly. Its almost reacting like a bad cord but the cord is fine. I have no knowledge of troubleshooting an amp problem but it seems strange to me that I can't get any input???

Do you know for a fact that the tubes you have laying around are good?? I assume you swapped a few out with known good tubes?
If so...
I would clean the tube sockets first. You can go to radio shack and get their contact cleaner if you are in pinch.

Like I said apparently everything inside the amp seems to be making contact as the hiss gets louder as I increase the volume and the same with the rest of the controls but when I plug in...nada? I wonder if its a bad tube socket and if it was could this be the result of it?

Since you had a pin break, I would suspect it had been bent over and straightened. Weakened the pin. Since a pin may have been bent, then the socket may also be bent out of contact where the pin goes into it from replacement tube. This can be dangerous to work on to make it contact pin. Caps have to be drained of voltage to be safe.
