Man...I was wrong!!! "The Pacific" has turned out to be terrific!!!

I admit it....I was so wrong when, several weeks ago, I said that "The Pacific" wasn't nearly as good as "Band of Brothers." It has turned out to be really, really, REALLY good. I love the Sledge character....what a terrific actor. The guy's whole demeanor has changed with the ravages of war.
Anyone else enjoying it as much as I am?

I don't think you were wrong. I think the show improved! It started out so scattered. Maybe they were trying to get across that war is like that, but it wasn't compelling television.
But when they had to cross the airfield (#6 I think), it took off! It began to flow.

Yeah, I think the last four eps have been terrific. Without spoiling anything, I found last week's show highlighting Sgt. Basilone entirely predictable and nonetheless compelling and great storytelling. This week's Okinawa story was riveting. I can't wait for the last episode next week.

Yep, I was getting a little disappointed, but the last couple of episodes have been fantastic. This week's episode and last week's more than make up for the relatively slow start. I'm kinda sad that next week will be the last one.

Yeah... something wasn't as grounded in the opening sequences as BOB... the plot device of following three different men can't help but feel a bit fragmented, and this is also a very different balance of wartime realities being portrayed than Band of Brothers - but all in all, very good.

Last night was so heavy. Sledge holding that Okinawan woman as she died. I think this series has done a fine job of capturing the hell that is war. I need to re-read With the Old Breed.

It was good to see Sledge pull himself back up after hitting rock bottom. Evidence by the sceen at the end when the Japanese kid gets shot after Sledge lowers his weapon.

It was a great episode. I have been waiting for Okinawa. We lived there in the early 60's when I was a wee lad and have some very fond memories of the place and people.


I'll be sad to see the series end.

I think "Snafu" is deinitely in Emmy territory. Great perfromance.

I think the initial negative comments on this series were unfair. Covering such a massive topic in 10 hours requires some setup time to develop the characters.

I agree. Loved Band of Bros. Initially didn't like the Pacific. Last night was amazing. I think most of us relate more with the war in Europe. The Pacific series helps to personalize the incredible sacrifice that generation made. Without giving anything away, I was pretty moved by the Basilone episode. Great writing, acting and cinematography.

Last night was probably the most intense.

I've been enjoying it from the first installment.

Especially after last night, I appreciate how they bounce back and forth between the hard core, battle related episodes, and the less violent more character driven episodes. If it was ten in a row like last night, I think it would have started to feel gratuitous.
