I'm plenty late to the Vince Gill party, having never dipped a toe into Country Music until about two years ago when I caught Brad Paisley shredding on an awards show while flipping the channels.

I recently bought "These Days"- which is an album that is just about impossible to put in any one box. Having seen Vince play on the "Crossroads" DVD's, I knew the guy could play, but I had no idea of the true artist that he is. He's a monster player, he's got an incredible voice, and song writing chops on top of it all.

I don't know how well "These Days" sold, but, if you worked your whole life as an artist and these four discs were your boxed set, you'd consider it an incredible career. I don't know the who's who of Country music players, but the band on this album is great. The drummer is both inventive and in the groove all at the same time. All of the guitar parts sound great. The backing vocals are incredible.

Easily the best album I've bought in a long time-

That album's been on heavy rotation at my house since it came out. Pure genius.

does he cover the Jackson Browne song of the same name?

Welcome to the Vince Gill party! He's had most of his band together for a long time. It strikes me as unfair that he can both play and sing that well. Oh well...I like hearing it!

... not to mention write songs, produce, sing harmony on thousands of records, play the mandolin and the fiddle, etc...

... oh yeah, and be married to Amy Grant, too! :D

Vince is a very humble down to earth guy, I witnessed it first hand. He and Amy played at my friend's funeral a couple of weeks ago.

Yep, some of these dudes just blow your mind... Ricky Skaggs is another one.

Yeah, Vince is an incredible talent. Wife and I are going to see him 4 June. We saw him in Columbus several years ago and wifey got the backstage meet and greet. When it was our turn, wife was getting pics with him and Amy and I just asked Vince for some putting tips as he loves golf! I figured he gets enough of the star gazer crap. It was cool, we chatted about putting for a few minutes (I think he really liked that). Then I told him I played a bit of guitar and he just said "play loud"!! Such a cool and down to earth guy.

I had tickets to see him in Portland ME, in a small venue a while back. Unfortunately, my grandparents both got sick and I had to fly home, missing the show. I had 3rd row seats, dead middle. While family has to come first, it still was a bummer!

@Luke Gibson: sorry for your loss.

Yeah that's a great record. Records. When that record was coming out and i heard it was a 4 disc set of all new music that he wrote or cowrote, i was like oh god, here come 5 good songs and 50 duds. But actually all 4 discs have a bunch of great songs. I was really impressed. I still listen to those records a lot.

I saw him on that tour too, with a MASSIVE band, like 17 people.

The best album release since "Tommy" by the Who. A masterpiece of epic proportion. Love all the Bekka Bramlett and Al Anderson on it, too.
