Watched this on Comcast On Demand and found it on youtube. The combination of his amazing syncopation and rhythmic ideas coupled with the tone of the Cornish NG-2 that is cutting out and sagging on certain notes is truly special. He is such a versatile player and he really understands rhythm and achieving tension in his soloing. This is very enjoyable to watch and learn from:

I have the exact opposite opinion. I want my 10:49 back. Kept thinking something other than bad buzzy mediocre playing was going to happen. I was sadly mistaken.

I'm a fan of Mayer but his interpretation of that song leaves me totally flat - as does most of Battle Studies.
He seems to have lost his musical direction in recent times and Crossroads is a symptom of this - IMHO.

I am a Mayer fan and I did like Battle Studies... all except for Crossroads lol. I've seen him play it better than he does on the album live but the recorded version is lacking in my opinion.

i didn't like his take on crossroads when i first heard it... but it's grown on me. i really like the unpredictable/off-beat phrasing in the solo.

The comedic intro was fabulous. The guy is damn funny. Good player too IMO.

I think this version is amazing. And love Battle Studies too!

I tend to like his covers more than his original work. The guy can play and it really seems to come out when he's playing with some of the greats.

Wow. :worried Glad that guitar is okay.
I really dig his take on corssroads. he did his own thing, and I really like the grove that the song takes.
