Saw em once when Allen Woody was still alive. They were heavy.

I was in front of Allen all night. He just stood in one place, staring straight out - his eyes barely open but his pupils rolled up to the ceiling.

He didn't look too good but didn't miss a note, playing a Les Paul bass. Wonder what happened there?

Am a big fan as well - met Matt when he and Johnny Neel were doing a duo called X2 in NYC, have worked for him since then. I try to see him anytime they come to town. I also have a friend that played with both Matt (Dickie Betts Band pre 1988), and Warren when he and Johnny had a band in Nashville - The Blues Collective. Warren is a great guy as well, fun to hang with and talk to, always accommodating, and the only one I haven't had the pleasure of working for - yet!

I think its safe to say that anyone who doesn't love Mule doesn't enjoy music.

Warrens been my favorite guitar player for a couple of years now and somehow he sings better then he plays. I don't even understand how thats possible, but I aint complaining.

Love the Mule. One of the best live bands around. Every show has been killer. Jorgen has brought the band to a new level. And Warren is a really nice guy. Down to earth and genuine.

I prefer the original lineup much more than anything they've had since. (rip AW) I've seen over 20 shows..maybe 30 with at least 12 or so with the OG lineup.

fwiw - the band name is Gov't Mule, it's not an abbreviation of the full name IT IS the name of the band. (just a pet peeve of mine)

great stuff!!!

in lawrence one year (99?) Sco and derek trucks band were playing at liberty hall down the street from the venue mule was playing (grenada theater). Warren went up and sat in for a few songs with both DTB and Sco's band then both Sco and DT came down to the granada theater and sat in for about 30 minutes.

Any TGP folks like Mule? Boy I feel like a piker posting her ebecause I only have their CDs and haven't made it to any shows. But I really love listening to them and there is huge love for the band and Warren himself here on the board. With all due respect to Duane, Where It All Begins is my favorite ABB record BAR NONE.

If I were going to start a spinoff thread from this it would be "Anyone around here like oxygen and water and food besides me?"

Awesome ink man! I have the Dose album cover tattoo'd on my left shoulder but it pales in comparison to that!

I've seen the Mule about 6 times but had the pleasure of seeing them acoustic with Woody in 2000. They had played "Mountain Stage" (I live in the city Mtn Stage is broadcast) and many bands play at this bar, The Empty Glass, after Mountain Stage gigs. At first I was kind of pissed I didn't get the full on assault of the Mule but soon realized what a special treat this was.
There were maybe 100 people there and it was amazing.
Woody passed not long after that.

I've got a bootleg of the last Woody show in Canada - at the Comfort Zone in Toronto. The sound quality is pretty damn good as is the show. I`ve always wanted to see them live. I love the fact they play originals and throw in some covers. It`s good fun.

I was lucky enough to see them when they first formed and were leaving the Allman Bros. They were doing steady shows in Macon, GA a Elizabeth Reed Music hall and it was just MONSTEROUS. My ears still ring from those shows. :) Warren, Woody and Matt were very cool and approachable--fun guys just to shoot the breeze with and they really had something magical going on!

I wish they would play our annual Bluesfest in Ottawa (which isn't much blues given Iron Maiden and Rush are scheduled for this year). Funny how the Bluesfest staff will bend over backwards to book Kiss but won't even acknowledge the mighty Mule. I refuse to buy a festival pass until they do so.

I'm pretty sure Oteil Burbridge played on the album, but I'm not sure if he toured or not.

What's Oteil up to these days? I dig his playing. First time I heard him was with Aquarium Rescue Unit.

That Warren Haynes solo album rocks hard. I've got it on my hard drive and listen to it constantly.

I thought Oteil Burbridge played on the album, but I'm not sure if he toured or not.

Lotsa guys played on that disc, including Alan Woody, Chuck Levell, Mark Quinones, Johnny Neel.

There was a club tour they did, saw them at the Terrace Club in Stamford CT. It was a crappy night, freezing rain/snow. There were about 20 people there (including bartenders, ticket takers, waitresses). They pretty much played one long set (most of the disc, some cooler covers). Warren played a Red Strat Plus through an SLO with a few pedals on the floor (I got the OK to step on stage and oogle his rig after the show). Danny Lewis played the B3, Matt Abts was the drummer and don't remember the bass player though.

After the show, Warren and the crew came right out on the floor and sat down at the table where most of the remaining "crowd" was (maybe 10 of us). He was really cool, took pics, autographs, he was fired up about the new band he was forming with Alan Woody and Matt Abts, but they didn't have a name yet.

On the album, Lincoln Schleifer & Michael Rhodes trade off on bass while Steve Holly & Greg Morrow split drum duties. I thought the touring band was with Rhodes & Morrow but I'm really not sure...

I knew Woody from when he worked at Gruhn's. Saw the Mule numerous times with him, definitely my favorite incarnation. A few years ago I was writing for a music mag and got to interview Warren, then a couple of weeks later saw them at the Ryman in Nashville and took my 14 year old son along. Had comps and got to hand with the band backstage after the show, they were all super nice and Matt Apts spent a lot of time talking to my son (a drummer). Warren is an incredible guy and talent. Like the current incarnation better than the last one, but I'd like to see them go back to the power trio format, also.

I don't think there will ever be another album that knocks me back on first listening quite like their first did. The first time I saw them, we saw the ABB the night before in WI then Mule @ our local watering hole in Mpls, I was flat out blown away.

Warren and Audley on the same stage. It don't get any better than that.

I won't bicker about better, but, this entire show (from JazzFest 2008) was spec-freakin-tacular!

I've seen them several times and have about a dozen or so of their shows downloaded from MuleTracks. The first time I saw them was at Cain's Ballroom (an awesome place to see anyone!) right after their debut. There were maybe 50-75 people there and they rocked the place like it was a packed arena! I love all of their records, but they are a much, much better live band!

"Beautifully Broken" from the Deepest End live CD/DVD has got to be one of the most powerful musical performances ever recorded. I wish I could have been there that night.

Personally, I thought Andy Hess was a great bassist for them, but Jorgen, now that he's really found his place in the band, is awesome!! And I really like them having Danny Louis in the band too. Adds a great dimension to the band.

Just scored tickets to see The Mule at a verrry small outdoor venue in WV. The wife bought them for me for my BDay. To say I'm excited is an understatement. This will be my third time seeing them.
