2 am cst the server does a backup. i think..

That's correct. This daily hangup isn't as bad since they recently improved the server situation.

Which is midnight for us west coasters... often posting around that time and run into it almost every time :knitting

It hangs during 'cron' jobs. Which are automated server things; daily backups being the most intense.

One negative with VBulletin is that you HAVE to constantly do maintenance. That includes stuff like optimizing the database, looking for any errors, recounting posts and statistics, etc.. It's a necessary evil to use this software and we are still working to 'spread the load' of them in an effort to smooth the user experience.

That said, we are working on a new server solution that would ideally minimize any of these issues moving forth, but that takes some real honest diligence to fully understand how/why it makes sense in the long run and also studying the actual logistics to change ISP without a service gap and/or any issues.
