I've played a couple of these in stores, but aside from the fact that they feel nice to play that tells me nothin about how they respond in the real world. Any Thinline players care to share their expertise? What do you love, or hate? And how different are they from a solidbody Tele? Thanks.

I have a CIJ 72 thinline reissue with 2 humbuckers. I love that guitar and never play my others anymore. It just has the exact sound I wanted which is a sound that can rock and sound gritty but without the low bottom that alot of my other hb guitars have.

Lighter, Less midrange(good or bad) some would call it airy response than the solid bodies,

hard to explain...but it is lighter and has an air to it...kind of swirly sounding......more acoustics to the sound....doesn't sound like i'm making sense though.......

Yes it is hard to explain KDSI44, compare a Les Paul to a 335 is about the best way I know how to

I have one and I love it. Versatile and smooth.

That sounds pretty accurate for my '85 MIJ thinline. I just threw some 9s on it tonight for a change and it sounds so much better with the lighter strings.

I have a 90 72 CIJ Thinline that through a tube amp is one of the best guitars for blues you will ever find, and plays like a dream. I think this is the only guitar I ever over payed for though. I bought it new on ebay years ago straight from Japan and got in a bidding war with some ass that wound up making me pay about $850 for it. Then they came out with the MIM version.

I find them a tad darker in general than their counter parts equally equipped. On stage, I don't think you would notice much difference.

Sounds like it's sonically pretty similar to a solidbody then?

'69 Tele Thinline reissue - limited edtion. When I got this guitar it was overly bright due to the 1 meg pots that come with it. When I swapped out the stock pickups and put in a Lace Sensor Gold/neck and Duncan Little 59/bridge, I changed the pots to 250k and it sounds way better. I wouldn't say it sounds radically different from a solid body Tele. I like having the Little 59 single space humbucker in the bridge for a more ballsy tone with high gain distortion. I also appreciate how light weight the guitar is when playing long gigs.

Does the f-hole make that much of a difference, as opposed to a Tele that's chambered w/o an f-hole cut into the top?
