There's still a LOT of musical stuff you can do while recuperating. You can simply listen to other musical influences, you can work on transcribing, you can work on theory, notation, sight-reading, sight-singing, singing, songwriting, read up on amp schematics, etc. etc. etc.

Another recommendation for slide. I broke my wrist a few years back and decided to pick up the Arlen Roth slide book and got to work. I never would have done it otherwise. Definitely turned a negative into a positive.
