yeah ive seen countless times where people have said that he just played whatever strat he could get his hands on...hed play it for a while, break it, get another neck or another guitar, etc...
he just liked strats, so they just got him strats..

Jimi played whatever he could get his hands on, but he seemed to favor maple capped necks towards the end of his life...

Probably not a good idea to live life just listening to what 'people have said'.
Jimi ran through a good number of Strat's (and a few Gibson's), but he had two favorite 1968 Strat's. Both had maple fretboards. One was black and one was Olympic White. Both were used for two years (until his death).
The black one was seen on the Lulu show, Royal Albert Hall, Atlanta Pop Festival, and the Isle of Wight fest. It's also probably the last guitar he played in September '70.
The Olympic white one is the Woodstock one. Acquired in November '68. Probably the one he used on the Dick Cavett show too. I'd have to check on this last point. You can check this one out at the EXP in Seattle. I was kinda underwhelmed when I saw it...for some reason I thought it would be a religious experience.
These guitars are explained in a few books including "Jimi Hendrix Gear" by Heatley.

I actually just click the 'embed' button on the YouTube video's page, then put that whole piece of code in between the youtube tags. No need to fish out the id of the video.

And Beethoven died 183 years ago, what's your point? Go listen to nickelback if you only appreciate current music.

Good post - I suspect he played a lot of rosewood board Strats early on because that is what was most readily available - Fender didn't bring the maple board back until 1967 or so (ironically I picked up my copy of "The Stratocaster Chronicles" last night for the first time in over a year and was reading through the section on the early CBS era of 1965-1970 and 1967 is the year Tom Wheeler lists as when the maple board option returned to the price list). It was likely easier for him and/or his people to go into a music shop and grab in-stock rosewood board Strat than to specfically track down a used maple board Strat from the 50s - although I suspect he likely did have at least a few '50s maple board Strats go through his hands during his career. It appears he gravitated toward the maple board Strats once they became widely available again.

I'd say he leaned more towards maple, but he rocked both equally hard.
Yeah, it's 2010 but the greats stand the test of time.
