Was toying around with some ideas for an open cab idea, something with a little bit of a twist...

My goal is to get as much dispertion as possible, just wondering if any of these designs would be productive? I'm willing to experient with an SPL meter...

I am far from an acoustic engineer, but I would think you'll have very different sounding and not optimized results. The top, bottom and side panels attached (however loosely) to the front lense and baffle seem critical to getting maximum resonance from the cabinet. Having had a variety of cabinets, I now think they influence tone and the overall sound nearly as much as the speaker does.

Phase cancellation would be a serious issue with open sides.

The short of it is, this has already been done. Check the "forte" link in a previous post. If you like it, buy it.

Basically you've designed an open baffle with an attached reflector. I'd make the baffle wider (in at least two directions) for a bit more bass and make the reflector separate, and thus adjustable.

The real trick is to make the baffle big enough so it's roll-off matches the turn-over point on your amp's bass control.

I was using my Peavey Classic 30 combo as an extension cabinet for a while (just disconnected the internal speaker wiring and rigged up a cable to it's speaker from another amp) and it was quite a bit more open sounding compared to the cab beside it (which was a slight open back cab itself).
You might want to experiment with something like that to see just how 'open' you really want to get.
