Just got back from Vegas. First time I had ever been there. I thought there would be a lot more live bands playing, but I was dead wrong. I was there for 4 days and only found one bar on the strip, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, with a live band. Tons of places/casinos/bars with DJs, but no bands. I still had fun...but it would have been a whole lot cooler to see some live bands out there. For those of you who are in the know about Vegas... what places did I miss to find those live bands playing?

I've played across the street from Margritaville, at Fitzgeralds, where Vince Neil has a Tattoo shop. No bands there now?!?!? :-(

I don't remember what place it was at, but I was there a few months ago for my brother's bachelors party. On this particular night we were over on Freemont St. and I heard some guitar so I followed the sound into the bar. A fat white dude was playing guitar and absolutely killing it covering Billie Jean by Michael Jackson.....both guitar and his voice. I couldn't believe it. It was amazing.

I've seen some live T40 bands in the casinos sort of as a back ground for the gambling. They were pretty generic sounding arrangements and voicings. I was totally unimpressed with the music but I respected that these were professional guys just working for a living.

Wow, I don't know where to begin. Almost every decent sized casino and most smaller ones have bands playing and yes, most of them are of the top 40 variety, but some of them can be pretty good. That isn't the case Downtown, but they have the street scene during the summer with live bands playing out on Fremont Street. There are also some smaller clubs around town with live music, some of them very good. Out at Stateline in Primm there are three casinos and all three have live music every night. Then there are the shows in large halls or smaller places like the House of Blues. There is music all over that town.

They're there but you have to look for them. Check out the Swingin' Pedestrians. My buddy, Tony Felicetta, is the lead singer. His day job is Ringo in the Fab Four.

I was there recently and only found one live band playing an outdoor venue on the strip near Ballys I think. There were charging a stupid ammount for cover so I didn't stay.
Unless you gamble I really don't see a reason to go to Vegas. Food and drink is way overpriced and the entire city seems to be over-run with
D-bags.
And yes, I went to Cowtown guitars. That place sucked too.

I haven't been there for a year or so but there's a great Irish band at the Nine Fine Irishmen Pub in NY NY.

Shoot, who needs live music? People keep posting here that you don't, because you can get in on the interwebs. For a small fee. Whoopee.

There's a very good live venue every night at the Mirage.
