I put one Celestion Gold 10" in the other day and left the other 3 Jensen P10R's in. I just put 2 RCA 12ay7 in position 1 & 2.
And it has Tungsol 6L6 and a Mullard Rectifier.
I sorta did all this at once and it sounds a bit boxey in the mids now.
I pulled out my Fender LTD to compare and its much less middy.
Are any of these components known to cause such a mid issue?
Thanx

Since tubes are the easiest to replace, got back to ALL the original tubes. Still sound weird? Go back to your original speaker configuration.
If the original tubes sound better, swap in one new tube (or pair of 6L6s) at a time until you find the culprit.

Try it with the original speaker configuration. I never put a gold in my bassmans, so I can't be sure it's the speakers, but it should sound great with those tubes. I'm pretty sure it is something to do with the speakers.
Some things to try:
How does your LTD sound with the same tubes?
Can you put your amps back to back and try plugging the LTD into the Victoria speakers?

Yeah i know i have to go through the steps, but i was wondering if RCa 12ay7's are causing midrange or maybe the Celestion. But i put my ear up to each individual speaker and dont hear much difference at all. But that may not always tell me if it is the speaker or not.

Are the speakers connected like the old tweed bassmans--each speaker plugged into the chassis? If so, you can probably just unplug one of the RCA plugs--the one to the Gold would be a good bet and see if that changes much.
I still think the back to back idea is good, if the speaker wire is long enough.

I always used NOS RCA12AY7s in my tweed bassmans. That amp is supposed to use them.
I only use the 12AY7 in V1 the others I believe should be 12AX7 to be like originals?

Yes, I'm talking about V1, too. Your others should be 12AX7s as Lazy says. I just noticed that you said AYs in V1 and V2 in your first post.

dont compare it to a Fender ltd Bassman, that sounds very little like a real Bassman. I imagine you turn the mid knob down?
Also, not sure, but if you meant old Tung Sol 6L6WGB, they are mid-rangey.

I disagree that the LTD sounds "very little" like a real Bassman, but I do agree that the Vic will sound more like the real deal, and the extra midrange is a part of why that is, although there's probably more mids in the Victoria than the old ones. At lower volumes, my Victoria sounds almost exactly like the two 5F6-As I played it next to, but once we cranked them up a little the Victoria tended to have a little more aggressive of an overdriven sound.
Like I always say, first of all, play it with a band. That changes everything. Give it some time to get used to it, because it took me probably close to 2 months of being on the fence about selling it and going back to my LTD. I have another LTD at home right now with 4 THD 10s, and that's a really good sounding amp, but they're different. The LTD will always have more cut and more headroom.
If you're going to start swapping speakers, I don't think the Celestion is the way to go - you really need a pair of old Jensen style ceramics to pair up with the alnicos. The P10R RIs aren't very good speakers, but they work okay in that amp if they're paired with something else that plays well with them. If you've got a lot of money to burn, just buy 4 new speakers from Weber and be done with it.

I'll bet he meant the Tung Sol Reissue 6L6GCs.
