smoked it.
i don't know whether to be :D or :FM.
it was a real weird experience.
there is a $500-600 difference in price here! what???
lately i've been having trouble getting the strat to do what i want, like something changed with the way it feels and the way i hear it it's frustrating. the tele just works. bam. done.
i feel so emo right now.

Welcome to the world of marketing and perception. If something costs more, it *must* be better, right?
And perhaps also you are just more of a "tele guy." ?

the thing that blows me away is that i played a stupid amount of strats before buying this one. it was my favorite by quite a bit. i bought this tele after playing it for 10 minutes, almost on impulse.
driver8, you might be right about the tele thing.

I had the same kind of experience, only the smokee was the best '52 RI Telecaster I've ever played; it didn't have the usual glopped-on finish. It belonged to a friend of mine. The Squier didn't actually smoke it, but a difference wasn't detectible. He was happy for me and okay with it. IMO, Strats that can hang with a decent Tele are few and far between.

Once you hear the tele pups, all your strats go belly up! :rotflmao

I found myself blown away by my CV50 the past few weeks thinking that I prefer it over my G&L ASAT or American Deluxe Strat.

Seems like if you picked this strat out of a pack of them, and you thought it was the best of the bunch, it seems like you are comparing apples and oranges here.

Yeah, Teles will do that...

I think the problem is probably expecting a Strat, no matter how good, to sound like a Telecaster at all. Maybe you should consider selling both and buying an even nicer Tele! That'd come close to funding a K-Line or a Rocketfire or something!

I've had the same experience lately. Picked up a Tele and now I don't want to play my Strat that often.

i don't think i will jump to anything crazy yet...not gonna sell anything off yet until i've had some time to get my head wrapped around this.
it may be apples to oranges, here, too. i'm not expecting the strat to sound like a tele, but the ease of dialing in a killer tone and getting a sound that made me real happy was so easy with the tele...and not so easy with the strat.
thanks for the support, guys!

I'll never let my CV50 go. Way too much guitar going on there. It's by far my most inexpensive guitar even with the few mods I did, but I absolutely love it.

Shit! You guys are NOT helping supress my Tele G.A.S.!!! :FM
All this talk about how good the CV '50s and '60s Teles are...I may just have to go and buy one!
Thanks a LOT!
...and yes, I've played a few. They ARE all that and a bag of Doritos!

I'd take a MIM over many USA models most of the time. Especially the old Vintage Players, Cray and Jimmie Vaughans. Nice necks, nice trems and stuff.
I have a MIM Strat that I spent 3 hours picking out until I found the right one. Maple neck like butter. Holds tune very well, even with trem action. It was actually a scratch-n-dent, so it was like 400$ for a nick nobody will ever see. Put new pcikguard/guts in it from GFS. 141$ with shipping.
Now it sounds and looks like a custom shop. less than 550$.
I also have an Epi LP Custom extremely modded that pretty much destroys any Gibson Les Paul I've put it against--SG, LP, V, Explorer.... The thing will sustain for over 30 seconds easily, looks killer, has a tone of pickup combos, sounds incredible, and it holds tune better than any axe I've ever used, doesn't even have locking tuners or nut.
I realize that some of the cost of US made guitars goes toward labor, and they usually come with better hardware and (usually) a higher grade of wood, but I'm a firm believer that if you shop smart, you can buy a medium grade (priced) guitar and get a really good one. Then you dump some cash into it and you've got yourself a killer axe for a lot less than the big name companies wanna rape you for.
It's as likely to grab a Gibson lemon off the shelf as it is to grab a MIM or Epi or a Squier and fall in love with it. For a lot less cash, with plenty left over for upgrades, a killer lifelong gigging/recording/jamming/practice axe can be had for a lot less than a grand.

I've got one on layaway, can't wait to bring it on home, de neh de neh de neh da na na nuh. :rockin
I feel very fortunate to have a strat that can hang with a tele, and a les paul to hang with both of them. Now if I can just keep them all together and not sell anything ...
pretty big 'if' in my world.

I wholeheartedly agree that it's what you hear, not what it costs, or what it's supposed to be. One fine day killing time at a GC, on a whim, I tried out a few MIM Standard Teles against the US counterpart. I bought the MIM that smoked the US Tele. Granted, it took 4 MIMs to find the good one... but when you find one like that... you'll know.
All the talk about the CV series has me intrigued...
Squire... Schmire... as long it's good.
(with apologies to Daffy Duck's famous - "Consequences... schmonsequences, as long as I'm rich.)

ok just spent some time with the American Strat. much better!
i don't really know what it was, maybe some tweaks here and there, maybe my frame of mind, etc., but i'll be damned if it didn't sound great just now.
if anything, this just goes to show how my ears/mind may find something "right" about one set of gear one day and a different set the next...
...this is a possible GAS fueling argument...
...i should just shut up and play the guitar...

I've had that happen with strat and LP guitars. One may sound "off," so I put it down. When I pick it up the next morning, it sounds perfect with the same settings. Maybe my fingers (or ears) needed rest. :huh

Such is the way of the human mind. It's a fickle thing.
