View Full Version : Good HB for strat bridge?

I picked up a Strat from my son that has a HB in the bridge that's too heavy/hot for my taste. So what's a good HB for classic rock/pop that would match well with the stock PU's in a new American Standard strat and be used primarily for rhythm?

Tks.

Hi Jack,

I'm sure you'll get a billion answers with the typical responses generated by pup questions, but I'll throw in my half-penny's worth:

I have an American Deluxe and I put in a Seymour Duncan SH59 (nickel cover even) and have really been happy with it.

I also put CS54s in the neck and middle (came with the original noiseless SCs and a Dimarzio HB).

Walter W (TGP member) wired it up for me so the middle/bridge position splits the HB and combines it RW for hum cancelling (since the middle pup of a CS54 set is not RW/RP).

I also have one tone wired to the SCs and the other tone wired to the HB by itself.

Best,
Steve

Suhr DSV or a DSH for more meat.

oh yeah, suhr 'buckers are perfect in strats. after all, they are voiced to sound right in his strat-style guitars, and to mix nicely with single coils.

Can't go wrong with the kind that have one black and one creme coil, those sound best in my opinion.

sure, if you like blues. if you're a metal guy, the ones with two black coils sound the best. :D

JB. Coil tapped, and it matches well with Strat single coils.

A Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAF should do quite nicely!

I loved the SD alnico II pro in the strat bridge position.

Favorite so far is a Duncan Antiquity Bridge Pup

I replaced a JB with a Seymour Duncan 1978 (formerly the EVH). Waaaay better - almost sounds like a single coil.

Amazing. Plus if it was good enough for Eddie...
