View Full Version : AMP (actually foot pedal wiring) Repair recommends in the DC area
Im looking for someone in the Washington DC area, preferably Northern VA, that can repair a foot pedal for my 20th Anniversary Bogner Shiva. A puppy chewed thru the wiring. So I basically need the wiring re-attached to each other. Any amp/electricians recommends would be very helpful. If not, Bogner said they can repair it for $40/hour. Just didnt want to wait all that time to mail it to CA, have it sit on the repair table and then be mailed back.
Thanks!
Thomas

Could you post a picture of the damage?
That sounds like it could be a perfectly simple job --- something you could either learn to do, or get a local forum bro like me to do for you.
Here is one picture. As you can see its simply a straight thru chew. I stripped the excess rubber and wax paper sheath that was around the wires thinking I would soder and tape but the wires are REALLY thin. I can work with alot of things but I don't think I can work with wires this thin.

Scratch that, I just saw NoVA. Have you tried Matt at Action Music?

I re-wired the footswitch on my Ecstasy with no problem. I have a bunch of leftover wire if you need some. How many conductors does yours have?
I'm in Ashburn.

If you don't want to or can't solder then you could try this for a short term fix.
Get some heat shrink tube from Radio Shack or Home Depot, slide a piece of shrink tube over a wire end, twist tie the wire together and then fold it back over itself so that it's tough to pull apart, slid the shrink tube over the twist and apply heat from a hair dryer to shrink the tube. When done, wrap the wires in electrical tape to hold them together.
This should get you by until you can have the wire repaired professionally.
Good Luck.

Yes he is almost twice as expensive as bogner doing it in house.

I have all the wiring i need. i just need them joined back together. Think of it as someone just cutting the chord with scissors. I just dont know how to rewire something so damn small.

Thanks, but I have another pedal from my original shiva that is exactly the same. So I can use it for the time being. Its just that I was hoping to trade or sell that shiva sooner then later! But I'll try that trick. thanks.
Looks like im going to mail it in to Bogner. The thing about it is, if I home job it Im thinking it will be harder to sell/trade with a piece of electrical tape around it.

How about just soldering the remaining cable into the footswitch assuming you have enough lead on either end? Where is the break?
This is an easy job so I don't think you should go through the hassle of sending it to Bogner.
Your best bet would be to rewire the switch like I did for my Ecstasy (I needed a longer lead than the factory provided and I also converted the footswitch to be detachable).
You can splice it together but it would be ugly and more prone to future failure.
Do you want me to take a look at it before you spend the $ and time?

What's Bogner's price? I'm in Sterling.
Oh, and there WILL be some heat shrink tubing exposed unless you're willing to lose part of the cable length.

did a quick read-through on the Bogner site about the footswitch.
if you've got the 2 button switch, why NOT get a local guy to pull the jack out of the footswitch and install a nice quality stereo 1/4" jack? that way you can use ANY stereo 1/4" cable to connect the footswitch to the amp?
you might spend a little more in the beginning, but it's going to prevent problems down the road when your dog chews it up again. not only that, but it's a desireable mod that solves an age-old problem for a lot of guys using the mono/stereo style footswitch...
just thinking outside the box. and yes, i've had it done to one of my amps. works great!
