OK, I need a bottle of red tonight to go with my PRS break in. I don't like the really dry stuff, but nothing sweet either. Give me some good choices.

+1 on Malbec, also Shiraz I think might fit the bill.

Lambrusco should do, it's a bit sweet w/o being overly so, IMO. My preference is decidedly in the dry red category, Lambrusco is as sweet a red as I can take--anything more and it's too much....

A Beaujolais should work for your requirements. It's pretty light, but still a red. A young wine, usually best drank young, rather than aged. A bit of sharpish cheese should make it taste even sweeter. If you try it and like it, look for the Beaujolais Nouveau on the third Thursday of November. THEN, get a French one. But year round there's decent Beaujolais from all over.

Syrah (or Shiraz) is good; maybe try a Primitivo, which is kinda like a Zinfandel...
In addition to some of the recommendations made so far, maybe a 1998-2002 Smith-Madrone Cabernet. Pretty solid, not too dry, and not one of those over the top <14% alcohol content wines.
Honestly, there are probably thousands of wines that fit the bill, my opinion is just that...one more opinion. This just came to mind because the winery doesn't produce a lot of wine like some better known wineries. IMHO, it offers a pretty decent value for what you get. I wouldn't say it is as good as say a 2004 Peter Michael, but it is certainly a better value if you're going to pop it open and drink it today.
Let us know what you chose and post some pics of the guitar!!!!

I'm a Ridge fanatic. Their Three Valleys (zin blend) is widely available and around $20. Fantastic. Plus, you'd be supporting a cool company/winemaker.

This has been our favorite lately. Love the story of the little grape vine piece on the bottle. And the price is right.

If you can find it, Granite Springs Zinfandel will rock your world. It's the best Zin on the planet.

Zinfandels are magnificent big wines and some of my favorites, with one qualifier, they can give me POUNDING headaches sometimes. I love the Zinfandels from Sonoma, Healdsburg etc, and the Napa Zins which when good, are really expensive. The Paso Robles area has some mighty Zinfandels too. Lately I've been drinking more Pinot Noir in an effort to find full flavor without as much headache as the big Zins and Cabs will give me. A Pinot Noir hailing from the Carneros area just below and west of Napa is a good thing to find. I'm not in the habit of spending over $16 for reds, and under $15 for whites. I will spend more for good sparkling wines though.

El Dorado county makes the best Zin. In your face, very spicy, very peppery with a good bit of tannin. May not be for everyone, but Granite Springs, a small winery, sells out at the winery most of the time. Just rockin' good Zin.

pinots are generally a good valued wine, I like them in a less expensive wine simply because generally they are better flavored than a young cab ,they are more constant from brand to brand and they have a bit less peppery bite than a zin (which some may find less desirable)

Carlo Rossi Paisano :hide2 -- it's actually palatable and it's about all you can afford after getting the PRS. Never really cared for expensive wines.

When going on a first date with a hot PRS, a few glasses of wine make for a great social lubricant. It's important to select the wine carefully, or you won't make the right impression. Don't pour too much though! If things start going well, you don't want her to be too sloppy..

You can't get a good California wine four under $30. Go with wine from Spain or Argentina.
I even like Washington State stuff better than California.

OK I made a choice with the help of my local wine shop, and of course the alkie's on TGP. I bought a bottle of 2006 Alma Negra Bonarda Malbec. I just re-strung my slightly used PRS. Warming up the tubes in the Mesa, ready to begin my evening.
I think my friend is coming over. Says he has some of that stuff they grow in California, Mexico etc..
Things could get very blusey tonight!!!!!!
