No, I'm not trying to play like Redd, I'm just trying to figure out how to dial in the cool ambiance he has in this song.

I can dial in the tone, but I know very little about dialing in delay and sometimes can't even tell the difference between Reverb and Delay so please help me out.

I'm hearing more reverb than I am delay (and plenty of compression), but jeez -- Redd Volkaert is in a league of his own -- the sustain he's getting at 3:50 is just heavenly.

sounds like a lot of compression from the video camera as well

I can only hear reverb. If there is a delay, it must have a blend knob that is dialed way down and the delay time set very short.

That ambiance is cosmic ether of the Tone Gods vibrating in sympathy with Redd's Fender goodness.

sausage fingers=ambiance

theres a video of his pedal board from that show...IIRC durham sexdrive (boost/compression), durham zia drive, and a few other pedals most likely a delay...IIRC hes using a solid state peavey amp.

HIs version of the Allmans Bros song from that show is one of my favorite youtube videos evah!

Redd kicks ass! Check out Merle Haggard 'Live at Billy Bobs'

So I posted my question on the Tele forum and sure enough, Redd himself replied:

Thanks for the interest in tone!
The beginning melody is the bridge pickup, with the tone knob all the way up,
the holy grail set with the left 2 knobs at 1:30,
and a boss dm3 set with the 2 big knobs off and the little mix one at 11 o'clock
Then when it gets fuzzy, I step on my Mucho Boosto that's set at 12 o'clock
on the 2 big knobs and the tone at 9 o'clock
If I can suggest, make sure the order your pedals are plugged in is right, thats a big part,
and for me, don't have too much effect compared to guitar sound coming out of a pedal,
sometimes the echo and reverb is too swimmy and you lose all of your articulation in your notes being played,
especially if you play double stops or triad melodies.
Your milage will vary,
Redd

How badass is it when the guy who's tone you're trying to emulate tells you how he gets it??!!??!!?
