View Full Version : Fulltone Full Drive 2 ..... I'm thinking I like this better than I thought I would ..

I'm playing a Hiwatt DR103 through an Orange 2x12 G12-65 loaded cab and was using a xotic BB for my boost. For some reason, I don't think the Hiwatt likes that BB. It's very compressed sounding and a bit muddy sounding, so I whipped out a Fulltone 2 that I traded for a while back but never used.

What a difference!! everything was so much more clear and crisp. This was a nice surprise. I think the BB passes a wider bandwidth which is great for thinner sounding amps, but the Hiwatt is a monster head and the BB wasn't going to work very well. I think the Fulltone is the ticket, as least for going in the front end.

I was only using it at 9V. I'll have to pump it up to 18V and see if it gets even better!

Now I'm wondering what other boosts are similar or perceived to be a step up from the Fulltone? :dunno

I really like the comp cut on the FDII. Great stacker too!

Nice! I bet you can get some great overdriven Gilmour tones with a strat and that fulldrive into the hiwatt.

Hmmm! I haven't tried the Strat yet! :Devil That's a good idea.

I love my FD2 Mosfet! Congratulations on discovering a fun drive pedal.

I've used one for over ten years now, recently giving it a rest to try out a fuzz. Its a great versatile pedal.

I love my FD2. I think it is probably the best tube screamer type pedal I have ever used.

Sure is a classic and for good reason!

I really like the FD2 in comp cut... in my opinion, thats the best way to use this pedal.

That said, a Hot Cake kicked it off my board.

got some of the most boutique drives out there, and the FD2 is still on my board.

Oh yeah, I've owned a zillion dirt boxes and the FD2 is still my 'monkey wrench'. It sounds great into anything. Not glamourous anymore but it is solid.

I run mine on Comp Cut at 18V. Lots of headroom and it sounds less Tube Screamer-y and has more of it's own sound.

I've got an old Corvette orange unit. I'm in comp cut at 18v as well. I've got a TS808 Hand Wired on the way to compare with it. I use it to goose the front of my Ecstasy on solos. It's been really great for years.

I use a couple of Hiwatts meself, and though I don't use my Fulldrive for Floyd stuff (and I do a lot of Floyd stuff - see sig :D), I use it all the time for other things and it sounds amazing!

I recently picked up a non-mosfet fd2 and I love it. I've got it set just to thicken the tone up slightly when used on its own, or to push other pedals slightly harder. Quite subtle but the best pedal I've found to do that. Sounds great with my explorer and ac30.

You might want to check out a Catalinbread WIIO...I have v2 and love it. It gives you a thick sound that's remarkably clear. Not a high-gain metal pedal...but a great crunch. It also stacks GREAT with my FD-2 Mosfet...

i used to have a fulldrive 2, and i loved its versatility and especially with single coils, but it ultimately was too compressed with a les paul for my taste, even on compcut

Indeed. It muddies up a bit with HBs, I've found. Stellar with singlecoils, though.

The FullDrive 2 is an excellent drive pedal. I like it so much that I have two of them. Many have come and gone, but the FullDrive 2 remains, it simply works, and sounds great too.

The FD2 is still a great pedal, has been for years and I just had to take it off my gig board due to space constraints.

I am a big fan of the FD2, and much prefer the "pre-Mosfet" versions. The newer version seems a little bright for my tastes.
