View Full Version : What effect will swapping the 12AX7s have on my Peavey Delta Blue?

I already replaced the EL84s with a matched set of Mullards in my Peavey DElta Blues. The 12AX7s are the original Sovteks, which the reviewers have said are no good. But given that I have done the EL84s, what can I expect from doing the 12AX7s?
While I'm at it, what should I swap the Blue Marvel with?
FYI: It is a 112 and I bought it nonfunctional, so I don't know how it sounded before the Mullards.
Thanks for the input!

The Delta Blues is a 1x15 (or a 2x10), you sure you have a 12 in there?

I have a classic 30, which I believe is the same amp section as your Delta Blues. I swapped out all of the original Sovtek tubes for JJ's and did not notice any real difference.
I believe that your comment of it being a 112 is incorrect. As far as I know, the Delta Blues comes with either 1-15" speaker or 2-10's. I'm not an expert, but I think this is true.

Yes, it is a 115. Brain fart. They happen more often every day.

I tried various speakers in my Delta Blues and always went back to the stock speaker which is actually an Eminence Legend. I concluded that the only real reason to change the speaker would be to install something like a Jensen Neo which would significantly reduce the weight. But as far as sound, I liked the stock speaker best.

This is a prefered preamp line up by many on the Peavey forum! They must know something! The Penta is a 12ax7 9th Gen!

Anybody know if that tube swap would require rebiasing?

Rebiasing is only for output tubes (and then only on amps with adjustable fixed-bias circuits). It's fine to just swap the preamp tubes.

Get one Mulllard or Bugle boy in the 12ax7 v1 spot. That will answer your question.

Mine came with JJ's threwout. Letf the Blue marvels in there (2x10) this thing kills. I am not changing anything in there.. And God knows i have spent thousands in tube and speaker swaps before, in other amps
