I have the reissue (MIA) and its a great amp for the price. Im not completely satisfied with the tone but Ill tinker and see if I cant improve it.

the reverb is killer to the point you can have tooooo much.

it handles bass nicely but is a bit ice picky in the highs.

the clean channel shines, the gain channel needs some work as its too raspy for my taste but it has plenty on tap which I like.

the loop works well IMO and thats a definite plus for me.

anyone else using one in their rig?

anyone mod these things?

any recommended tones I may like ? (ex: bass6 mid5 treb3)

do you gig with yours? if so what type of music do you play?

did you alter the gain circuit or do you just use pedals?

any info praise and stories are welcome, just looking for some info!

thanks!!

No one on this vast forum has had or has this amp?
WOW

I think I must have the rarest amp in creation...

Everyone here has tried everything but no one has one of these?

Interesting.......

My main amp I am proud to say. Blah blahh Ampeg is Crate but not so fast. If you have a MIA Ampeg reissue from the 90's you have a good amp. It was meant to compete with the Fender HRDx's of the day, or any 40 watt 1x12. I think it kills.

I am lucky enough to live here in St. Louis so some of the Ampeg folks are still around...nothing better than somebody tweaking your amp that knows a little about it...i.e. the builder.

As for changes, mine has been reverted back to EL34's as they were the first couple years of production - totally gives the Drive channel some life. I put a Emi C-Rex in there and it just seems it was meant for that amp. (Note: I had a Emi Private Jack in there and the greenback clone did well too.)

The other thing, and this is me just saying, is that it is not as loud as some other amps with similar wattage. It is a 50w amp that you can use the volume on. The whold range of the pot is useable and the increase in volume as you go is gradual - not the 1 to 10 jump that you get with Fender pots in the HRD, Deville, etc. I have heard it said that the OT used was a bit smaller than could have been, thus 3 on the volume knob is 3...it is way less volume than 3 on the competitor 40 watt amps. That being said, it is a 50w amp and can keep up with any band.

Hope this helps!
A.
