Hi there, I've been looking for a decent lower watt amp. I know am not interested in ones like the Fender Blues Junior or Orange Tiny Terror, but rather unique little ones that seem to sneak up from time to time, for example:
Blackheart BH15
Traynor Darkhorse
Egnater Tweaker
Egnater Rebel 20
Jet City JCA20
etc...
Basically, I am trying to keep it under, or around $500. So no need for the hugher end stuff. Do you have anything that I am missing. Neat little companies like this always interest me. Thanks in advance!
I'm toying with the idea of selling my Marshall Studio 15....a very cool and unique chapter in Marshall history.
From what I've read, production on this amp was limited to around 500 units, so they're pretty rare. A 15-watt tube amp that was at the time the only Marshall ever manufactured with 6V6 tubes. It was also the first Marshall to use a Celestion Vintage 30, and the first to feature a recording-compensated output.
All I know is, it's a very, very cool amp....easily the most tonally versatile Marshall I've ever played. The mid knob may be the single coolest EQ knob I've ever used on any amp.....it not only adjusts the mid EQ, it actually changes the entire character of the amp. Set the mids to 9-10:00, and it sounds very Fender-esque, with sparkling, rather remarkable cleans....but as you increase the mids, the more it takes on that characteristic Marshall tone. Turned wide open, the character of the amp falls somewhere between a JMP series and a JCM800. Great sounding little amp.
This YT video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZQFAmARxck) does a pretty good job of demonstrating the amp's tonal variety. Very cool amp, for sure.
I'm afraid my asking price won't fall in your price range if I do decide to sell it, but I figured I'd mention it, just in case you might be interested. Even if I don't sell it....I still think it deserves more recognition than it receives. Like I said....a very cool and unique chapter in Marshall history.

In compiling a list, I would consider the Marshall Haze 15 head. Had mine for over a year and love it. All tube (6V6 and ECC83); reverb; on-board delay/chorus/vibe. I have no need for my pedalboard with this amp as the OD channel (and bright switch) sound great IMHO. I run this thru an Avatar 2x12 cab. Worth an audition. $599.

Its not in the 15-20w range but VHT Special 6 might interest you.
BTW, Blackheart is Crate, not saying thats bad, just they aren't really one of these new companies.

you really gotta stop hanging out at the guitar center. There are two kinds of deals... stuff that is cheap, and stuff that is very high return for the dollar. If you are going to limit your budget to 500... then look for something used. Personally... I'd look for a 5e3 or maybe an 18 watt marshall clone... but that's me.
