I love my AD9 and consider it a pretty dirty delay ,but I'm looking for something as dirty or dirtier with a tap tempo. I love dark repeats that distort quickly. There's just something about it that even the TTE can't do that I love about the BBD's can. Just preference, and yes i've played with both.

I had heard the EHX Deluxe Memory Boy is pretty nasty. Anyone??
The Malekko seem sweet but no tap.
Thanks

The old '70s DOD680 is the darkest I've ever played, the Malekko E300/600D being the next darkest.

I don't know that I've seen anything analog with tap tempo with repeats that degraded - seems like those are mutually exclusive traits for some reason.

If you like the AD9 - and I assume you mean the current Ibanez AD9, because the original and the Maxon AD9 aren't as dirty - then you'll LOVE the old AD99! The AD99 is noisier, darker and more primitive, but in good ways(!)

If your AD99 is as you describe it probably needs some recalibration. Mine is much brighter and clearer than a DM-2 or DM-3 or any AD-9 I've ever heard, and really could not be described as noisy.

Your exactly right!! The current AD9 for sure. I even had one modded by Keeley and I ended up liking it much better stock. He cleaned the pedal up to much.
Ill check out the AD99 as well. I'm thinking about sticking with an Ibanez BBD and using a DL4 for the tap etc. stuff

:agree I use it too! The VMSD has some really nice vintage tape modes, too. I use that lots for warble/fluttery tones.

DMB Lunar Echo.
thats a really well used tape echo, for sure.

Retro-Sonic Analog Delay is a little dark, being based off the DM-2.

Just get an Echoplex and let your dog whiz on it, I'm sure you'll get some nasty sounds and smells from that then

Yes, the current AD-9 is among the dirtiest I have heard, this is why I keep the one I have around. I will be curious as to what you find as dirty. Let us know what you end up with, and how it compares.

If you're not married to analog, you could look into some of the digital options that emulate tape or analog delays. I haven't heard it in person, but from the demos I've watched, the new Strymon El Capistan can get pretty dirty. Lots of options also, so you could muck it up with saturation, warble, and tape crinkle.

My girlfriend my take care of that for me. She tired of hearing me talk about gear. I told her i wanted to find a delay pedal that reminded me of her.
She didn't like that to much. :hide2

DMB Lunar Echo.

this sounds amazing on the demo !!! If it had a tap it would be over with.
I might reconsider it sounds so good.

The Strymon Brigadier actually looks a little cooler for my needs.

This^ or...

the Deluxe Memory Boy gets good dirty repeats and has tap tempo...especially if you turn up the gain

Definitely love the sound of the Lunar but no tap and looks like a LONG wait time . Signs keep pointing to the Deluxe Mem boy. Tap tempo , dirty repeats, immediately available, and the price is right.

Strymon Brigadier does look pretty awesome though.
I'll try the DMB 1st. if not ill return and bite the bullet for the Brigadier

The Malekko 616 in True Bypass mode is dark and dirty. In Buffered mode the tone is a little more gritty with nice warm repeats.

To me dark and dirty are different. I've heard dark delays that are super clean.

The grimiest delay i have heard personally is the malekko E600D, the repeats just have to wobble that get mashed together when you turn the repeats up... I would love to have one. The DMM is bright but if you push the level and modulation and bump up the repeats it gets pretty nasty.

I don't think you will find a delay with tap that can get dirty.

The Maxon AD999 has dirty/distorted repeats in a way I haven't found in any other delay. If tap tempo is not a deal breaker, I guess it will deliver what you're looking for.
FWIW, I would describe the AD9 I owned as dark (ala Carbon Copy and many other analog delays), rather than dirty (meaning distorted repeats) and if memory serves well the AD99 I once played was nothing sort of what you're after (bright and relatively "clean").

I have a Strymon Brig and if it was in a brown paper bag and you told me it was analog I would believe you. It has the ability to recreate studio quality analog delay as well as shitty, not well tuned, with old caps, analog delay pedal.

I'd recommend getting any analog delay and adjusting the internal delay trimmer to get more delay time. This will definitely dirty up the repeats.

The old grey Arion SAD-1 is a nice dirty analog delay. The black version is cleaner with shorter delay time.

The old green MXR beast with the power cable. Hands down the darkest, dirtiest delay I've ever played. I love those things...I regret selling my last one.

Rocktek Super Delay, no tap tempo, but the signal degrade rox. Hard to find, but usually cheap, and sounds like analog delay should.

Get a DOD Fx 96 and run it at 9v. you will be very pleased. very gritty, dark, and slightly warbly repeats. plus you can find them for $50 or $60

Smart People Factory I-5 delay.

has a "warm" knob. the "warmest" setting sounds like a tape.
