Title says it all. Who makes a nice sounding amp for playing at home? Fender? Line 6? Roland? others?

Thanks for any input offered.

I picked up a Line 6 Spider IV(120) and it's a great home amp. The sounds are excellent, it's very versatile, and seems well made. The 75 watt and higher versions have the newest modeling, the best effects, and are loud enough to be giggable. Check them out, YMMV.

I have a Traynor Dynagain DG30D, it's a 30 watt solid state amp. At first I wasn't that impressed with it, but that was mainly because I was using the gain channel.

I recently starting using the clean channel and it's very "tube" sounding. I put a Maxon Overdrive in front of it and it sounds really good! It's got a Celestion Super 65 speaker in it and some OK built in effects.

You should be able to find them used for around $100 I would believe.

I have to say Roland is a great choice.

Lots of great tone.. They have many different amps to choose.

How much do you want to spend.

Check out the Roland 20x for under $200.

The Vox Pathfinder 15R. A strong 15 watts, Reverb, and a nice Tremelo with 8" spk. I used one of these a while back on a gig thru a 2x12. Worked fine. So it's more than just a practive amp. 120 bucks new.

I have a Cube 60 and use it a lot for practice. It has acceptable cleans, decent high gain tones, and doesn't sound bad with a Zendrive for bluesy tones.

I also like that it doesn't sound horrible at late night practice levels. I was playing mine in my apartment at 2 a.m. last night and no one complained.

I also like that if I forget to turn it off and go to sleep that I'm not burning tubes all night. I've left it on for days on end and so far, a couple of years into it, it has performed flawlessly without any need of maintenance or repair.

It's nice having an amp that you can leave on all evening and just pick up your guitar (on a stand next to my couch) and play at any moment.

I bought one a few weeks ago to use (& leave) at my cottage.. I was looking for an amp with good sound, reverb and no modeling. This one fits the bill nicely.

Last winter I bought a Peavey vyper 15 as an xmas present for my nephew. I had so much fun with it I bought one for myself. Without a doubt the best time I've ever had for $100 with my pants on. The sheer variety and quality of sounds that all these new small digitals get is amazing.

Henricksen or Polytone. But for home I'd just get a Fender Blues Jr. even though it's tube.

I agree with Scott, I got my son a Trademark 10 and I use it for recording and playing at church as well as practice.

Agreed. I have the 120 also and really like it as a home amp. I also have two Peavey Transtubes which do a pretty good job too.

The Roland Cube's!!!

+1
I have Cube 60.
The clean channel is decent and based on the LC-120.
They take pedals well, have a Celestian speaker and are built like a brick.

I had Line6 Spider and thought it was a piece of poo.
Crap tones & cheap plastic build quality :D

Wow, I have some research to do. Thanks for the suggestions so far!

I've always wanted a Fender Champion 600 for this sorta thing - it is a tube amp, though, and I'm assuming you're wanting versatility over tonality here. Still, it might be worth checking out - just a suggestion. It's pretty cheap, too.

Another vote for the Vox Pathfinder 15R. The reverb and the tremolo are on the subtle side, but, man, does the amp sound good. Really warm and sweet.
