Great tune, it's got straight forward rock bits, then that true Psychedlic stuff at the end. Matt Cameron rules, btw.

Love it! That and "Loud Love" have always been my favorites. I couldn't put one ahead of the other...

My personal fave is Tighter and Tighter off of Down On The Upside, followed closely by Room a Thousand Years Wide off of Bad Motorfinger.

Tough to pick just one, but gotta go with Jesus Christ Pose.
It is the epitome of grunge.

lots of good choices, but if I had to pick only one it would be:

Mailman from the Superunknown album. It's so damn heavy

Yeah 4th of July is pretty heavy too...as a kid i thought that was about the heaviest thing i had ever heard....No idea what he's tuned down to in that song....

4th is an AWESOME song that is often overlooked.

My Wave wouldnt be in my top 10 soundgarden songs. I find it boring. I'd take Rusty Cage or Jesus Christ Pose.

Flower is great for their earlier sound, also Uncovered on Louder than Love is the epitome of their grunge roots. Holy Water + New Damage from Badmotorfinger, Like Suicide from Superunknown, Zero Chance + Dusty from Down on the Upside.

Hard to pick one and I like a lot of the ones already mentioned, but I'll throw out:

Burden in My Hand

great tuning, too. Very similar to the Bron-yr-aur tuning.

My Wave --- tune geetar EEBBBE.

I thought it was EBBBBE? Regardless, that is some seriously jacked up tuning. I would've never figured that one out for myself - I think I saw it in a magazine somewhere. Great tune but keeping time at the end is a tall order. :bow

It would be hard for me to pick just one song by Soundgarden, some great suggestions so far. I'll offer up two more that I listen to regularly and love:

Fresh Tendrils (Superunknown)
Into the Void (cover of the Black Sabbath song but with completely different lyrics [from a protest written by Chief Seattle]; released with special edition of Badmotorfinger)

I really hope they do some more shows.

Bootcamp, is my #1 favorite. Short, to the point, Kinda leaves ya hanging.
Rooms a thousand years wide is real close to being #1 for me though, if it wasn't for those saxaphones.
My wave is a great song, and I can easily see how it could be someones favorite.

just a footnote: his first two solo CDs ("Euphoria Mourning" and "Carry On") are completely awesome.

The last trainwreck ("Scream") that he produced with Timbaland was a mess. Super epic fail....

It's alright sir! you can be faithfull to your god and, if nothing else, listen to a great band like this as empty entertainment. It rocks, you enjoy that it rocks, don't let the lyrics factor too much into it....In my head i'm equating it to an anti-war pacifist watching Schwarzenagger movies. No one's getting hurt, no one's mind is getting changed!

i never personally attached to Cornell's lyrics anyways, like i would my favorite bands' at least. So it's almost empty entertainment to me also, but i still dig it....

cheers, enjoy!

Everything on their last album is great, but Zero Chance is my favorite tune.

Applebite is great to get stoned to, almost sounds like Pink Floyd(so does Boot Camp) great instrumental. Anyone know what Cornell is saying? He sounds like Jim Morrison in Applebite.

Hey Pete, that's pretty cool it is a great song! Very Zeppelin. When the album came out in '96 I'll admit I was into the radio-friendly hits. Pretty Noose, Blow Up The Outside World, Burden In My Hand.

I had Superuknown and Badmotorfinger, but DOTU really struck a chord with me. When I listen to Superunknown it takes me back to 1994, (especially Fell On Black Days) hanging out at my brother's apartment. I would go through his CD collection and listen to Soundgarden, Tool, NIN The Downward Spiral, Alice in Chains Jar of Flies. Man, I miss those days! Some music is just timeless.

Only later as I got older did I learn to appreciate the more obscure numbers like Zero Chance. Now it's my favorite! Funny how that works. You skip this or that track initially then later you come back to it and wonder why you skipped this gem in the first place? :huh

Maybe it's just me, but on their last album I hear more classic rock influences coming out of Kim's playing. Zeppelin, Sabbath, Hendrix(wah on Pretty Noose) then again maybe it's just me.

This might make you feel better about listening to it. Or maybe not?

The band explained that the lyrics for "Jesus Christ Pose" concern the exploitation of religion for personal benefit. The song is a criticism of how public figures use religion (particularly the image of Jesus Christ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus)) to portray themselves as being 'better' than others, or as 'martyrs' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martyr). Cornell specifically mentioned Jane's Addiction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane%27s_Addiction) frontman Perry Farrell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry_Farrell) as an influence on the song, explaining, "It became fashionable to be the sort of persecuted-deity guy."[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_Christ_Pose#cite_note-2) In an interview, Cornell explained the term "Jesus Christ Pose":
You just see it a lot with really beautiful people, or famous people, exploiting that symbol as to imply that they're either a deity or persecuted somehow by their public. So it's pretty much a song that is nonreligious but expressing being irritated by seeing that. It's not that I would ever be offended by what someone would do with that symbol.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_Christ_Pose#cite_note-3)

I sat here and tried to even pick my top five and I can't, there are just too many. Rusty Cage, 4th of July, Slaves and Bulldozers, Outshined, Mailman, Jesus Christ Pose, Limo Wreck, the list goes on and on and on, where's my iPod, time for Soundgarden Saturday.
