Hey guys, what is your favorite fret wire for a 335? Gibsons in general? What size did they come with in the late 60's? What do you typically go with for refrets?

6150 if I like traction and 6130 if I want the old greasy feel. I don't know what the number is for late 60's but my guess would be something along 6130.
My personal favorite fret is stew's 154 - just the right height and width. Just my take but I don't prefer the huge 6100 or 6000 type - just too much metal between string and fretboard.

I like 'em tall, but I have a light touch.

I will never understand why people refer to part numbers with variable measurements rather than the measurements themselves when discussing fretwire.
Okay. I like .055"-.058" tall, and .110-.118" wide. How's that?

Here's a great link in regard to fretwire I came across on Google.

He asked what fretwire was my favorite not what measurements, I told him which I liked and why.
Sorry I just assumed you knew the numbers, if not the info is out there.
Voluntary information in a forum is part of me giving it up and part you looking it up, but here ya go boss:
6130 - .106 x .036 (low & wide)
6150 - .102 x .042 (pretty standard)
6100 - .110 x .055 (big)
6000 - .118 x .058 (really big)
#154 - .100 x .050 (not too narrow or tall)

Once again, these are part numbers. :bonk
What is "6150" for one manufacturer is not for another. I was pretty clear on that.

You should hit yourself on the head. Once again you don't get it.
There's only one 6150 and the maker currently is Dunlop and there are clones that refer to it for the same measurement I gave - you should really check it out before you hammer someone's post. I'm not sure if Dunlop has always made 6150 but the numbers go way back. These are standard numbers when discussing fretwire. When I say 6150 or 6230 many of you guys know what I mean. It's 'pretty clear' you don't but that's not my fault. Go to google type 6150, hit space, watch the drop down options and learn grasshopper.

Would be nice if they just gave each wire size a name, like when Dimarzio was experimenting with pickups for Satch and used Flinstones character names.
Then you could say something like " Snoopy is my favorite wire size, just a tad smaller than Charlie Brown wire "

You were not clear, you were obnoxious. The 6xxx numbers are Dunlop wire sizes, and people who know enough to discuss preferences of fretwire sizes would know this. When the Fender Custom Shop says they're going to use 6105 wire, they expect that people paying for their guitars will know what that means. if you're specifying some other manufacturer's size, like Stew Mac, then you say so. But the convention is to use the Dunlop sizes unless stated otherwise. And nobody else here except you seems to have a problem with that.
Then again, I prefer Jescar 9673 (wasn't going to say it, but it's .095 x .047)

Although the "D" references did refer to their fret sizes, over the years the actual dimensions came to mean different things to different companies. To remedy this and to make selection clearer, we decided to change our part numbering system to incorporate the actual crown size.
So, our 9673 for example, which really means nothing to most people, is now our FW47095. Crown height = 0.047" and crown width = 0.095" Simple, and eliminates any misunderstanding.

The 6105 wire is tall and not too wide. Will allow for a crown or two and still feel good. I recommend this wire.

Seems like a great size and comes closest to whatever Gibson Memphis Custom is using on the ES339. I realize that the Fender Custom Shop is using a lot of 6105 and it's just a little too tall for me - I like to feel the fingerboard a little bit under the string and it helps give some traction for finger vibratos, yet I still want enough fret height to get under it for bending. Anything bigger and it starts to feel like a scalloped neck. I don't mind having guitars with different neck profiles, but it would be nice if they all had the same fretwire.

I am with arthur, 6150, or the jescar equivalent. The Stew mac Tall wide is good too, not quite as tall and a hair wider, but not as wide as a 6100 or 6150. Now that you are totally confused try Dunlop 6155, its got a heavier nickle content than other wires, and a slightly warmer sound, fretted notes sound about like open strings on a bone nut.

I don't have it listed in my jobber catalog, where can one get it?

We typically ship out fret wire orders the same day. Delivery time is based on method of shipping.

If you go with stainless steel frets. They come in various sizes. You can play the hell out of them and if you like to do a lot of note bending they glide soooo easy. You will probably not have to re-fret for 20 years .
