Hi all. I have a live concert DVD that I watch all the time because I love the guitar tone so much. The DVD is Michael W. Smith Live In Concert - A 20 Year Celebration. The guitar player is a guy named Glenn Pearce. The amp he has on stage is a /13 of some sort. At the /13 web site, Glenn is listed under the ERT 33 customers. Here's my question.

If you own an ERT 33, can you tell me if that amp is capable of such a great crunch tone on its own or do you need some kind of pedal to get there? I'm guessing that the amp is turned WAY up to get that tone. If not, please tell me. I can't stop thinking about that tone. However, if I can only get there by cranking the amp then there's no point.

Any insight on the ERT 33, and Glenn's tone would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure on the amp but I bet the fiddle was a Tyler classic.

If volume isn't an issue, you don't need a pedal at all with the ERT 33 to get great crunch and lead tones. I actually prefer the amp by itself for the best crunch tones...any pedal I've used seemed to alter things too much for my taste. Why try to improve on perfect, you know?

I think you'll find that most NMV amps in the 30 watt range get pretty damn loud before they give up their best crunch tones. Even in half power mode, the 33 is still a fire breather. Still, if you need to use pedals, I've found that the Joyride, Dyna-Ranger, Sommatone Overdrive, Hotcake and Fulldrive II work very nicely with the ERT 33.

Here's the deal. Glenn's /13 amp and 2x12 cab are right behind him on stage. The amp is obviously on, but there's no microphone in front of the cab. That makes me wonder if he is really playing through the /13 or something else.

If you have the concert DVD, I'd like to know if the tone is really from a /13 amp or maybe something else.

I wondered the same thing. Maybe he has a 2nd cab offstage that's isolated and mic'd.

Someboday mentioned he was a Tyler player. He may very well play Tylers, but everything I've seen of him he's been playing an Anderson Cobra. If you take a look at MWS' last DVD, Worship, you'll see Glenn playing the Anderson through a Dr. Z Route 66. He gets some cool tones on that DVD as well.

I've really come to enjoy Glenn's playing after seeing him on these 2 discs, however, the highlight for me was when Will Owsley came on stage to play Lead Me On w/Amy Grant. He was playing an amazing Les Paul through, I believe, a Matchless. His tone was incredible! If you don't know much about Owsley, he has a couple of CDs of his own out that are really good. I highly recommend checking him out.

Hey guys,

Here's an email I received from Glenn's tech for the MWS tour last summer detailing Glenn's gear ...

"For the MWS tour . . .

Buddha Wah
Keeley Comp
Tonebone Classic
Analogman Chorus
Goodrich Volume Pedal
Mojo Vibe (he made sound amazing)
Boss DD-5 with Analog man mod (it was probably the hi-cut mod)
Small Tap pedal for DD-5
Nobels Tremelo Pedal
(not sure of the order of pedals except the nobels was last)

Divided By 13 amp....
Bad Cat Black Cat head
Div by 13 cab 2x12...(I think both were G12H30s)

He ran a red box, and later the little palmer (PDI-4) for a DI line
Then he had a little Pacific cab that was behind the stage that was mic'd up for the house...The div by 13 was mostly just for him to hear, and add a little sustain as they were trying to keep stage levels down.
We used to put his Pacific cab in a trunk and mic it....We did a show at Disney World where I didn't and it was pointing right at me for the whole show...We both agreed that it was the best tone we had all summer (I will not trunk his cab anymore), and it was a real treat for me...The man doesn't make a mistake, and is so relaxed and never in a hurry....Yet he totally burns when it calls for it. My favorite time of the night was listening to him cop the Dann Huff stuff on some of the older hits of Smith's.

He said that high end was not his friend and runs his amps pretty dark and he looks for darkness in his pedals too.....

The pro analog unit spent quite a bit of time on his board as well in place of the tonebone, but I think a switch may have gone bad.

He also spend a little time with one of the V-stack pedals...He had a few to check out, but I *think* he used the one that emulated more of a fender sound....I don't remember for sure, as he would come in and change his board after line check right before doors...

The keeley and tonebone were changed out for other pedals from time to time (most notably the proanalog and to a lesser degree the V-stack) ..

He also spent a spell with a sobbat phaser (II?) as well as a sobbat fuzz/octave pedal that he used for a few gigs...He had the AC and RC boosters in his bag, and I think I put one out when something went down right at set change from the opening act.. Also had an addrock electric smile that he used for a gig or two."

He did tell me that Glenn was selling the Cobra and getting a Tyler again. When I lived in LA I saw Glenn a number of times at Vineyard Music recording and it was always with a Tyler strat.

This post was from Glenn himself on the Paul Baloche board. It was before the MWS tour so obviously his gear had evolved already ...

"“My gear is constantly evolving (amps, guitars and effects). Also I don’t have exact settings for anything, because it always changes depending on the guitar and amp that’s being used, and who I’m playing for, style of music, the room or environment it’s in, etc. The general rule is to turn the knob until it sounds good to you.

“Right now my main overdrives are the Xotic AC-Booster for medium gain and either the MI Audio Tube Zone or Fulltone Distortion Pro for solos and heavier gain. I also love the Keeley Compressor for clean sounds, and sometimes I’ll use it to boost the distortions for solos.

“My setup is as follows:

Guitar into>
Keeley Compressor
Budda Wah (or Fulltone Wah)
Line 6 Modulation pedal (blue)
Xotic AC Booster
MI Audio Tube Zone (or Fulltone Dist Pro)
Boss DD-5 Delay
Fulltone Supa-Trem
>to AMP

“I use only tube amps. Really any decent tube amp will do. The ones I prefer are Groove Tubes, Bad Cat, Fender. Pick a tube amp that suits your style and budget.

“I use Jim Tyler Classic Strats, Tom Anderson Cobra models, and Gibson Les Paul’s.”

Most of what you wanted to know was already mentioned above but:

Glenn's a close friend of mine and a great guy. Also - a TOTAL gear slut but nothing is too dear and his gear changes ALL THE TIME !!

The Divided amps are usually what he uses LIVE (usually set a little dark) and usually pretty clean. Most of his gainier stuff is the Tube Zone. Frankly, I dont really like the pedal but it sounds great it his hands !! And then everything else is just pedals or combinations of pedals - COT-50,etc..but apparently he changes it show to show just to mix things up and have a little fun.

The Anderson Cobra is gone. I sold it for him on this board - along w/ his EL-84 Divided By head. He has the EL-34 model Divided and prefers the muscle of those tubes over the EL-34. His main guitars are still a Tyler strat, a Greenwich Village Inca Silver Tele ( which I sold him - like an idiot ) which now has a kinmans - and a Historic Goldtop

Last I saw him live the head was onstage behind him w/ a Pacific 1-12 backstage mic'd and it really wasnt all that loud - sounded GREAT though !!

But dont go buying the gear trying to sound like Glenn because I've seen him go thru TONS of gear and it always still sounds like Glenn- so maybe "that sound" is just GLENN himself , dig ??;)

Hey Dano...I resemble that remark!

A clarification: The only reason I sold the ERT was to get the KT-88 amp Fred is making. At the moment I prefer the SJT and more marshall sounding amps. Fred is an awesome guy if you ever get the chance to hang with him.

The Tyler strats are killer - I didn't take them on the road much because I left them at home for studio work. Jim just built me a new rosewood/alder strat that is unbelievable, the best one yet.

Thanks for the positive tone reviews guys. I'm a junkie just like everybody else here...

I enjoy that song too. I agree that the Les Paul looks awsome. I have been wanting to learn that song and now that I can see it played live, I have run out of excuses.

I like all of Fred's amps. There's at least one to make just about anybody happy. I just decided over time I preferred the SJT (he made the very first one for me after begging him to make an EL34 amp, so I didn't have to take the plexi out).

But I used the ERT on the live and studio recordings into a pacific cab that was miked offstage (to control bleed), and also had the ÷13 cab on as well. The ERT is a truly great amp. Who knows, I may buy another...lol.

So if I'm reading this correctly, I take it this is you Glenn??? If so, cool to have you posting. I've got to tell you, one of the guys who commented about about your playing on some of the older MWS songs with Dann Huff 's parts was dead on. You're playing was spectacular in those sections! I really dig the work that Huff and other guys like Jerry McPherson did on the Eye 2 Eye CD and the Lead Me On disc by Amy Grant. Great parts and great tones. You nailed it, especially on songs like Secret Ambition. Very cool stuff!

"stealth" Hi. Thanks for posting here. I'm hoping you can take the time to answer one specific question about your live tone on the MWS 20 Year concert DVD.

The tone you have for the song "Signs" has a great distorted tone. Is that tone coming from the ERT 33 (pre amp or power amp) or is that a particular pedal you were using? I'd really enjoy getting a tone close to that.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

stealth

Humbled by the generous comments...Danocaster sent me this thread - I'm happy to answer any questions.

Dann and Jerry are awesome players, can't find better guys to follow in their shoes.

I've used the ÷13 ERT for just about everything in the last few years, mainly because my SJT was in LA with my other rig. Only recently have I switched back to the SJT. I generally run amps clean to slight breakup and hit them with various overdrives.

I'm a bit reluctant to comment on pedals here, only because for me there's really never a 'one's better than the other' deal - it's just what happens to work in the moment.

I use a number of different boards with completely different pedal setups on each of them so it's just a matter of what happens to be in front of me at the time...

So, with that said, the overdrive on the Signs song was the MI Audio Tube Zone into the ERT.

Glenn,

Thanks for jumping in ... it's always great to hear from the player himself that is often looked to and talked about for his incredible playing and amazing tone. Many of your VMG recordings became my benchmarked for the tone I was after.

I agree that Dann and Jerry are great players, but I would include you in that list. You not only re-create their parts but also create your own that stand on equal ground.

Scott

PS ... I won't hold it against you that I bought a Boss Dual Overdrive years ago because it was on your board in the Paul Baloche video ... although, now I'm intrigued about the MI Tube Zone ...

I haven't heard you play live yet but I lead worship at RH in Costa Mesa with Caleb and heard your SJT over Easter. Probably the best amp I've heard. I played the FTR at a gig once but there's just something amazing about what Fred does with those EL-34 tubes.

Hey Buzz, yeah I dropped by Fred's last week to get the SJT cuz Caleb is going to bring it to the OC gig, and I'm gonna finish out the tour with it.

At the time I had the ERT because that's the main amp Fred had going way back, and Rusty had 'em - but I've always gravitated toward the Marshall thing - Hendrix, Page, Clapton - they were who I listened to the most and especially Gilmour and his Hiwatts.

So I just asked him to make me an EL34 amp and 'do his thing'. So when I first fired it up I was like...OMG.

I was really blown away he would go out of his way to make that amp. Fred is the coolest, I am so stoked that his business is going crazy now because he deserves it.

Edge is using the ÷13 amps on the current U2 tour now too...

Since I'm Irish I figured the most Irish name I could think of was Mick McGuire. So one time a guy came up to me and said, "Yeah your playing is just okay, but you really need to hear this Mick McGuire guy - he totally smokes you..."

So I replied, "I bet he does!"

+1 on the "thanks for-hanging-here-and sharing." I'm more of a lurker than a poster, but I've gotta say, your playing on the 1st MWS DVD continues to mesmorize me and rethink my whole approach to how I play. Plus, that seemed like a truly special night (I'd love to know what happend though, cause MWS mentions the sound going down and doing an acoustic set in the middle?)

Anyway, you were truly inspired that night. My wife and I lead worship at our church and watch that DVD for inspiration at least once a month. For the first year we had it, we watched it every week (well, for that first year, more like every other night).

Then, I picked up the "20th anniversery" DVD--your tone on that disc still has my jaw on the floor. I'm glad your talent and your ear for tone has gotten exposure. Keep up the good work!

Hi Guys (and Gals ??),

Greetings from Scotland - I'm new to this board - what a great topic to start off !

I too really dig the MWS live dvd, especially Glenn's tones and playing :dude

Can I ask a couple of questions...

Glenn, I'm searching for a new channel switching amp and have read glowing reviews of Fred's amp range - how would you rate the EL34 SJT in terms of quality of the clean and dirty "click" channel ?

Also I'd love to hear & see more of your playing - are there any cds & dvds I can track down (ie VMG ?.....Paul Baloche ?)

Best regards,

You might dig it, Chuck. In EL84 mode, it's definitely the "voxiest" of Fred's amps that I've played (though I'm told that of all the /13s, the Reverb channel on the RSA 31 comes closest to a vintage AC30 tone). It'll proably have considerably more low end and low mid punch than your AC30, but you may enjoy that. Pick one up used and have fun...you can always sell it for what you paid for it if it doesn't do it for you.

My guess is that you won't like it. It is a very small amp compared to most of the amps you really like. It still sounds like a /13 and if you though the 10/20 wasn't loud enough the 9/15 is certianly quieter.

If you do pick one up make sure that you try a different PI tube than the stock Ruby that Fred generally ships with that amp. I have a 12ax7M in mine and although I don't care for that tube in most amps it really shines in the PI slot of the 9/15.

Well the cat's out of the bag now, eh? heheh. This'll shake some folks up (looks like it already has :) ). Actually, I believe what happened is Dave Stewart (Eurythmics, right?) bought one and loved it so much that he decided to buy one for his buddy, the Edge, telling Fred that he knew the Edge would love it too. Edge dug it and decided to take it on tour.

All that being said...just because the Edge or DS or EVH or JC digs something don't mean you're gonna...but you might anyways :). The bulk of the Edge's unique sound still comes from inside the Edge...not from his gear.

If you do pick one up make sure that you try a different PI tube than the stock Ruby that Fred generally ships with that amp. I have a 12ax7M in mine and although I don't care for that tube in most amps it really shines in the PI slot of the 9/15.

Well I learned alittle trick to do when my London 65 amp showed up. What I do when I want to play my London is just turn that amp on and keep all my other higher power amps off. That way the amp sounds huge. The problem I was having with lower powered amps was I would play them then plug into my bigger amps and the lower wattage amps would sound small. If I just play them exclusively they sound great. My London 65 is definitely huge sounding even when I play a 100 watter right after playing it. It is just a huge sounding lower wattage amp.

If I get a JRT 9/15 though I am going to make sure it is a head and then play it through my Vox combo cab with blues that way I will get all the chime I need.

I have a little 1x12 /13 with a broken in blue and it is killer with the 9/15.

There's a pic of Dano and another friend with identical Huff/Landau/Lukather racks that I HAVE to get scanned - you all won't believe it - they were in serious competition...

A friend of mine was at the U2 show in LA and the ÷13 was indeed onstage with the main rig. Anybody have pics?

As for the question above, I mainly run a pedal rig into the reverb channel of his amps. I have heard that some people use an A/B box into the 2 channels or jump the channels like on a Marshall.

Fred's click channel is definitely cool, but you should try to play through one if possible...

I saw U2 in Anaheim last week and LA last night. Noth times there was a %13 on stage. I managed to speak with his guitar tech, Dallas. He said it's a great amp, and he is currently using it with his piano/keyboard. Regardless, it is cool that he has a JRT on stage, but not quite yet with the guitar rig.

The question above reminds me of Jack Black in the High Fidelity movie (lol).

While I'm reluctant to list particular pedals - there are way too many variables - I will say that I think the guys discussed here on tgp making the pedals today are awesome. To me, it's not like the old days of finding the Holy Grail fuzz face or whatever.

These guys making pedals now are brilliant.

I do try to limit what I use because I don't want a pedalboard the size of a ping-pong table, so I'll rotate pedals occasionally...

I saw Glenn playing in the PK band one year ... it looked like he was playing through a Classic 50 410 yet he sounded huge! I also have two Brownsville worship videos and one appears to be a C50 and the other looks like a C30. I attended a few VMG recording's where I saw him using a Budda head and a Matchless head. On the Paul Baloche video he's playing through a small Fender combo.

Something I've always enjoyed about watching his playing is that he's very calm when he plays, it looks like he hardly hits the strings yet his tone is enormous.

Hmm...I suppose I figured out early on that if you have a guitar you really connect with you can pretty much get your sound out of whatever...Tylers are great workhorse strats and they have held up really well.

I got the collection down to the guitars I use the most which are re-issue Duo Jets (I've owned some old ones but the newest re-issues are awesome, imo), Greenwich Inca tele (thanks again Dano), Gibson Historics and the Tylers.

I can pretty much deal with any tube amp that's a vintage based design. Fred's ÷13 amps have been amazing for me, the only problem is everytime I go over there I wanna get another one...

love their stuff.

One of my favorite bands from recent years. I've seen and heard clips of him playing around LA with Michael Thompson and others. I saw a lot of him w/the bass player from VH playing with Richard Marx over the past year (check out Richard Marx's website). Matt and Richard seemed to have really hit it off and not only have they been doing live dates, but they've been writing together as well.

It certainly sounds like VH had a falling out with their record company. I sure hope they stick it out and come out with some new material.

A cool little side story... I met a guy down in the DC/MD area in the late 90's when I was doing some traveling. I bought my first Anderson from him. He turned me on to a lot of stuff gear wise and band wise. One of the bands was VH. Matt Scannel was his best friend and he was actually in Matt's wedding. He brought me out to a show where his band was opening up for VH. I got to see them in a little DC club before they broke big and it was definitely one of the coolest club shows I've ever seen.

Question though, do you think the RSA31 can get you there with the half-power switch? I know its not the same, but it is more in the Vox territory.

Sure the RSA 31 can get me there in half power but.

I use 1x12s so the big head looks goofy.

I can't use half power at full volume with a 1x12 so why have 31w?

I don't need the click so why pay for it?

smaller, cheaper, simpler (is that a word?)

Totally makes sense...thanks for answering. Your feedback is appreciated! I was looking to order the RSA 31 and it seems you are very familiar with those tones.

I use a 2x12, so I think the big head would work, but tonally being close to a good Vox with Fred's added expertise makes that a very attractive amp!

Here's a question for you, stealth- who is the backup singer for MWS with the long blond hair? She is incredibly beautiful and a great singer as well. I've heard that she has her own band. I'd love to hear her sing in front of a band. Any info?

That's probably Allison, she's sung with Amy Grant on a bunch of her tours and is shopping a deal now I believe.

I picked up my ÷13 SJT in LA last week (thanks Caleb) and it is an incredible amp. Every pedal I throw in front of it sounds great.

It's definitely a different thing from the ERT which has more compression for sure, but I really like the openess and EL34 angst that the SJT has. I always seem to come back to the Marshall thing.

Looking forward to Fred's new KT-88 smallbox head now...

I was the at MWS show this last Sunday in Sacramento ... what a great band. I was interested to hear your new Tyler stealth but that DuoJet had quite a sound of it's own and I assume the Tele you played was the one mentioned earlier in this thread. The best part was your color coordinated beanie ... it perfectly matched the opening color on the screens behind you ... obviously the key to your tone.

Was the rhythm player using some sort of software for his sounds? It appeared that he was using his pedalboard straight into the laptop.

Anyway, great playing as always.

He certainly is a big Tyler guy! Well it's nice to meet you Dan. My name is Jeff Harris. Tell Mark I said hello. He may remember me as the corporate executive guy that was traveling from Toledo, OH down to MD a lot back in 1998. We hung out a lot when he was working at Veneman Music there in Rockville. He turned me on to the Tylers', Anderson's, Surh's and Grosh's of the world. I ended up picking up my first Anderson from him and it's been a never ending purchase of great guitars since then :) . He was just getting going with Jonasay back then.

Hey Stealth, do you remember roughly the time frame when you sold it? I remember playing a psycho vomit that Mark had at the store when he was still working at Veneman Music down in MD. That was probably back in 1998 or so. That was the first Tyler I ever played and immediately fell in love. I didn't end up buying that one, but I've never forgotten :).

The stand is called Ultracase, in Anaheim. Those guitar stands are the ones most tours use. The Stones had enough for like 40 guitars...

Not sure when Williams sold the Psycho, it might have been around then. I think I have pics of it somewhere that I took with a few of Hartry's 10 or so other Tylers...it was definitely a cool guitar but I always used the Classics more.

I've been playing on my churches' worship team for the past several years and have been blessed to have had the opportunity to play with worship leaders like Rita Springer, Lindell Cooley, the Binions and a few others. I have to admit I've tried to copy everything you do, and you are my favorite guitarist period (well, I had a chance to sit in and watch a recording session with Sonny Lallerstedt and he is right up there :) ) Nonetheless, you have played a major role in my development as a guitarist, and I just wanted to say thank you. java - Thanks man, it's been fun to work with so many different people with different writing styles. If I wasn't so computer illiterate I'd put up a website with more gear info on it for those who are interested - one of these days...

noel - The Bad Cat amps are great. I had a number of the original Matchless amps and Sampson is a great guy - he modded an old '64 Vox for me in his garage, and it was obvious he loved working on amps.

I have been using the ÷13 SJT more for the Marshall vibe lately - but if you're looking for a great AC30 TB type amp the Black Cat is about as good as anything I've heard, and is bulletproof like Matchless. I toured and recorded with a Matchless HC30 for years and never had a problem. I sold my gray DC30 combo to Steven Chapman because he was looking for one - it's still the main amp he uses.

This is interesting what Mark Sampson said here:

MH: What is your goal with Bad Cat and what do you feel is unique to this new line of amplifiers?

MS: While I was doing studio work I learned a lot of design tricks, and I started applying some of the ideas I had to guitar amps, to improve the noise level, and acquire better harmonic content and to eliminate power supply harmonics. At the same time I had always wanted (Bad Cat) to be it's own entity. We decided early on that we would try to establish a different identity for his company in terms of product design, and marketing of that design, while at the same time trying to maintain the high quality and tonal excellence that I have always desired in my designs. The Goal has always been and will always be to improve upon my previous work and never compromise tone or quality.

MH: Does that Bad Cat line differ greatly from your earlier designs?

MS: I tried to improve on my earlier designs, and at the same time update the features, while improving the noise levels. All of the amps created after the launch of the company were started with a clean sheet of paper.

Nice - people called me that because I was always quietly leaving the group in search of espresso...must have it...in order...to survive.

Anyhoo I never messed with the second rectifier tube. I should have, but the Matchless/Bad Cat amps only ever came with one and I never changed the tubes in any of those amps. I figured if it wasn't broke... Danocaster is the tube freak - he sits around all day comparing everything you can possibly imagine. I just let him put in the hard time and then ask him what worked best.

One day Danocaster was at his hi-fi gig telling me that these 6ft. $20,000 speaker cables would sound great with the home stereo - I told him my only stereo was an iPod.

How long of an escrow for the amp you connect the speaker wire to?

You mean the ones where I'm afraid to look up - just to see people eating nachos?

One time I was doing a solo and I looked up to see a guy completely engrossed in eating a cup-o-soup - oblivious of any music going on. I knew right then and there I was making a profound impact.

The red guitar is a Duo Jet with Filtertrons, my attempt to pay homage to my hero Neil Finn...it's my favorite guitar at the moment. With the two pickup/tone switches I can get a ton of sounds out of it.

Good question. The only one I had it on was a Psycho Vomit I had. But that was back when Landau was using it. None of the Tylers I've used since had it.

It's okay - kind of an 'artificial' bigness if you know what I mean. I believe it's a Demeter circuit and he recently built a pedal with it. Id' rather use that than have to keep putting a battery in my guitar and interrupt a clean pickup to output signal path with active circuitry.

It's called the Demeter Fat Boost:

I have a few Taylors that have been really great all around guitars for both studio and live - a 612 and 714.

I use a Collings slothead for studio, it doesn't have any pickup installed yet. Those Collings guitars RING and have a clarity like a piano - I don't know how else to explain it. I played a Santa Cruz dread that equally amazed me.

Also I use a Breedlove nylon that is stellar. But the Taylors have been great guitars and an excellent company to deal with.

No changes other than a smaller rig for overseas and fly dates. Got the new Tonebone Tri pedal for more of a Gilmour tube-overdrive thing, but also use the Mi Audio, Lovepedal and ZVex stuff.

Stealth,

I would like your opinion. I am looking to purchase an amp head. I like to set the amp up clean or on the verge of breakup and use a pedal (Fulltone OCD or SD9) for over the top lead sounds. What would you recommend? I do not have 3 or 4 grand to work with, only around 2 grand. I already have a small 2X12 cabinet with vintage 30s. I use a Suhr strat , Les Paul and a Dano for slide. Pedals are : volume pedal, tuner, keeley compressor, OCD to DD3 delay. Also I don't play very loud but like to have the headroom if the situation arises. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Robroy - Um as far as an amp, there's alot of good info being discussed here at tgp. If you can find a used ÷13 ERT-33 or SJT-37 you would be really happy. I don't use the low-wattage amps because I prefer having the headroom of Fred's bigger amps.

Another amp head is the Savage Blitz 50 - that is an awesome amp and incredibly underrated, Willie's Guitars sometimes have them around. Also the Naylor 60 watt amps are great too, and the new Groove Tubes Soul-o 50 is a really nice amp for not alot of dough.

Glenn,

Thanks for your suggestions. I will give Fred a call about the SJT37. As far as reliability goes, how would you rate Fred's amps? This may seem trivial but it would probably be my only amp for a long time and reliability is important to me, not as important as tone, but important none the less. By the way, you mentioned your fly rig. What does that consist of?

By the way, I still watch your instructional tape with Paul Blaloche. Great tone and playing. I would love to hear some of your own compositions. Hey bro, a CD would be excellent;) :)

i know i'm not Glenn, but i thought i'd chime in. i got an SJT37 and have to say IT ROCKS! it's my favorite of his amps so far (i've had ERT33, FTR37 and the SJT10/20) though all his amps sound great, for me the SJT stands out the most. perhaps because i was looking for something with that thick marshally crunch. Fred makes a killer fendery sounding amp and voxy... but for marshall crunch, this is my favorite amp so far. and as for reliability, all Fred's amps are built to last. solid construction. i mean, look at the guys using his amps.. they're always on the road or going from studio to studio... these things are solid. i'm sure you'd be happy with any of his amps, but if you want a marshally crunch, with a killer clean channel, the SJT is the way to go.

Definitely. So far it's the best amp of Fred's for me. I will spend more time with the RSA 23 soon though.

I have a pretty great '68 Plexi 50, that I've been told is the 'Holy Grail' amp by those who have played it, but I like the SJT 37 just as much - if not better.

The SJT 37 doesn't seem to get as much press around tgp, but those who have them should chime in as well. It's a great amp, and unbelievable with pedals.

Right now my small fly rig is: crybaby wah, Fuzz Factory, Mojo Vibe, MI Audio Tube Zone, Lovepedal Eternity, Boss DD-5, Nobels Trem. Pretty basic...

I've got a few Tyler classics and Jim's guitars pretty much sound great no matter what pickups are in them.

The Fralin's sound awesome but they are noisy in certain situations. I've got the typical Duncan setup in one - stacks and JB, and Jim just built me a new classic with a set of Dimarzio virtuals, not sure which set - you'd have to ask Jim...

I haven't tried the OD100, but I had a CAE preamp back in the day, I think they are fairly similar tone-wise? Maybe not...

I've heard Landau using it at the BP a number of times. The Dumble he was using for a while sounded pretty good too, but he could plug into a Wheaties box and sound like Mike.

I'll try to find some pics - my gear is all over the place so I don't really have it all documented.

The 23 sounded fantastic as usual.

Compared to the SJT 37, it was very similar in a Marshall way, but it broke up quicker more like the FTR 6V6 amp does.

The RSA 31 was killer as well - the perfect Vox sound.

The new 100-watter was over the top - if Van Halen ever gets ahold of that thing it will be back the the 'Fair Warning' era for sure.

I just tried the 31 at Fred's shop, but I may have to get one now...

The main ÷13 for me is the SJT 37, it would be cool if he made that one in a smallbox version as well, we'll see. The 31 is seriously the 'perfect' Vox to me (IMHO) and I've owned a bunch of really good vintage candy and gray panel Voxes.

I'm using the Historic LP's, Duo Jets, Greenwich Tele and my main studio guitars are the Tyler strats - they are basically copies of Landau's vintage strats with Jim's tweaks.

I just saw U2 in Mpls., MN last Friday, and the Edge had a Divided by 13 head and cab next to the electric Piano he played on one song. I never thought one would use that amp for a keyboard.

Edge's guitar tech sure was busy all night! He must be in great shape, running up and down those stairs by the Edge...I think he used 17 guitars that night. Best concert I've seen in 10 years, since Paul McCartney (current guitarist Rusty Anderson gets GREAT TONE with his /13 amps!).

The cabs are open-back and they are either the 30-watt Celestion + 25-watt Greenback, or 2 30-watt Celestion, or a Celestion Blue + 30-watt Celestion.

I'll switch speakers occasionally. I want to get one of Fred's new closed back 2x12's too...The SJT sounds great with the EL-34's, has plenty of headroom, so I probably wouldn't go with 6550's. Not sure what tubes are in it, but Fred could tell you way more than I can about the tubes he uses.

I've seen U2 twice this year and it is an awesome show...love the new Tweed Fenders Edge added.

In Europe now doing some shows with delirious...they sounded great tonight as usual.

Somewhere in this thread there was mention that you sold the T/A Cobra that is seen on the MWS DVD. You also had this guitar on the One Nation Tour (I saw you guys in GA). It looked like a great guitar and sounded great with your set up. I am just curious as to why you sold it. I was thinking about purchasing a similar T/A model. I would appreciate any input you might have on this as well as any recommendations you might have on guitars in general. I noticed you use a Tyler on your Paul Baloche instructional DVD. I currently have a 1982 "SMITH" era Fender Strat which plays and sounds great, but I am looking for something with double coil pickups w/coil tap features, hence I was looking at the T/A. Do you recall the serial number on the T/A so I can look up the specs?

SIDE NOTE: I play guitar in my church praise and worship team. Your playing style, tone, etc. has been an inspiration to myself and praise teamers everywhere. I had played guitar in my HS years and did not play for many years while attending college, getting into the workforce and raising a family (besides - there were already too many hairbands out there during that era). I began playing again about 3 years ago. I started hacking on my wife's old acoustic guitar, the next thing you know, I was playing infront of my church congregation and have not stopped since. We now have a full praise and worship team. END OF SIDE NOTE

Thanks for the great info you put on this message board. Is there a Web Site forthcoming? Anthony Sallee had put one up a while back. You have many more followers/fans than you think.

Thanks - Rob

First off lemme give props to Tom and Roy - they build some of THE best guitars made. I personally dig the Cobra and I used it on a ton of recordings. His pickups sound great - I never swapped them out.

Lately I ended up using a Historic Gold Top LP a bit more for the Les Paul thing (which the Cobra is similar to: mahogany/maple - two humbuckers).

I rotate gear every once in a while just to keep things interesting. Of all Tom's guitars I would definitely get a Cobra again though - maybe 3 P90's or something.

I've been using Tyler strats for as long as I can remember... He made me a new killer Charcoal/Rosewood strat. At this point you can't go wrong with any of those great builders - Tom, Tyler, Grosh, Suhr. They all do things a bit differently so there's something there for everyone.

Some pics of gear jive, maybe this year I'll get a website up - lol:

Stealth: Seasons Greetings. Thanks for last posting...great updated pics......In reference to your europe pedal board, were you using a one spot for your powering needs? How do you like it? what type of board were you using? Did you have any problems with the difference in current Euro vs. US when it came to your tone and pedals.

Have you ever played any guitars made by Gerard Melancon out of Louisiana?

Thanks Rob

stealth

Yeah we had to travel light so I used the 1-spot the last few times I've been overseas and it has worked flawlessly. I had another (unamed) multi-pedal power supply that blew up in Europe right before a gig so thankfully I had the 1-spot there and I've been using it ever since.

We have a good tech, Todd Shay with us (what's up t-shay) and he pretty much made sure everything was good and voltages were cool so we never had any problems.

Haven't played a Melancon yet...

Glenn,

Hey, thanks for the pics! I'm really gassing for a /13, but I'd like a 1x12 combo. Does Fred make one? I'd like a great 1x12 hand-wired all tube combo with lots of clean headroom to use with a pedalboard. I use the Tonebone Classic and a Keeley modded 808 for overdrive, as well as delay, etc. What would you recommend for a combo?

I've been playing 35 years, and have played worship in churches, tours and sessions for the last 15 years. I played with Paul Baloche once, and Don Moen a couple times. I also hung with Huff in Nashville for a couple sessions years ago - he was incredible! Nice guy, too.

No day job right now - looking for a Tour. How did you get the MWS gig?

I'd probably go with the SJT 10/20 if you want a ÷13 1x12 combo. I have owned a number of Deluxe Reverbs, so that is a sound I would go dig in a small combo.

You could also do a smallbox head like the RSA 23 or 31 and a 1x12 cab...that would be a cool rig.

I'd played on some projects for mws and he heard some other cd's I recorded, so he asked me to work on the recent cd's and do some gigs.

i would like to start off by saying what a big fan of yours i've been ever since the brownsville days. you have influenced my guitar playing a great deal over the years.

i was talking to a friend of mine, skip cleavenger a while back when he was in the music store i work at. i brought up that i was a fan of your guitar playing and he had nothing but great things to say about you. i asked him about trying to get a chance to meet you sometime and he mentioned coming down to see a rehearsal at soundcheck in nashvegas but i didn't get the chance to but maybe someday. skip gave me a copy of his hymns cd where you played on the last track. great playing as always. i've played with skip on a couple of projects for our church in bowling green, KY. he is a great guy.

well, i won't take up anymore time. maybe someday i'll get the chance to talk gear with you.

Hey, thanks for answering my questions. Much appreciated. And thanks for the link about the /13 combo. I'll research it and see what guys are saying about it. I have no way of hearing one in the Mpls. area, as I don't know of any /13 dealers in town.

Ever been to Willie's in St. Paul? It's a cool vintage/new gear shop that's been in business a long time.

I just played four services at my church last night, using my Boogie Studio Pre/Simul 2:90 rig, and 13 pedals. It sounded great, as usual.

Have a great Christmas and holiday season! God bless...:AOK

Just got back from Australia and New Zealand. It is amazing there - definitely a place I could see staying and surfing for a few months...

Let's see, the Carr amps are great, yet another cool amp builder...nice guys too.

The distressor is for the bass rig, but I've used it in the studio on guitar - my favorite outboard compressor.

I don't think I ever heard the finished copy of that English cd...Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts produced that and played bass I recollect.

Tubbs is an old friend, we both worked in a music store in LA when we were both broke but had lots of gear...I think back then my kitchen table was a Marshall 4x12.

Tubbs has now basically quit electric guitar to immerse himself in acoustic Gypsy Jazz like Django...a freak for sure.

WHOA HEY!!!!! Hang on there fella now just a cotton pickin minute. Though I huge love Gypsy Jazz, and think all guitar players should to some degree check out Django, I'm still playing electric and doing sessions and looking for tours.

I'm gonna start tellin people you quit electric guitar to play just banjo!! Just kidding man...Just a little clarification.

I'm pretty sure now that I think of it that Django started out on a six string Banjo . Huh?:BEER

Love your playing Pearce! You always sound great on everything! The guys on these boards aint just whistlin dixie when they say great things about you.

would you mind sharing how you get tone to the board? As in mic choice and placement, etc.

I wish I could answer that. The concept of this entire gear forum is pursuit of tone. It never seems to end.

With that said, I think my approach is to keep it pretty simple: great guitar > shortest signal chain (only the necessary pedals) > a good tube amp.

Look at Eric Johnson's or Jeff Beck's rigs, you know the dudes with serious tone. Pretty simple. I find the more complicated things get, the worse it sounds.

Even with Edge's crazy rig, it usually only sounds like one amp with maybe one effect like delay or flange on it at a time. He has to recall 30 years of tunes so he needs all that jive up there but his tones are pretty stripped down.

I'm not that particular about what mics - a Shure 57 or Royer sound good to me. I usually let the engineer do his thing, sometimes we'll experiment with mics to find what sounds best.

the Live from Brownville CD

Okay well I can tell you some specifics of that particular cd - beside the fact that in the rehearsals I didn't think it was sounding so good so I asked the producer if I could change my name to Mick McGuire...

It was a stock Fender Blues Junior 1x12 combo with the Fiesta Tyler Classic. SM 57 mic into a Trident console. Since it was a fly gig I threw some pedals into a bag - the overdrive was the Boss Dual Overdrive and DD-5 delay.

I try to use the ÷13 SJT as much as possible but if we fly sometimes I gotta use whatever's there.

1) I prefer the Boss needle tuners, and use them in the studio, but for stage/live use they are hard to see - the Korg or Boss TU2 work well for that...never tried the Strobo but it looks cool to me. I noticed on the new U2 dvd Edge is using the Boss TU2, I suspect for the same reason...

2) Um, I didn't think about music seriously until after high school because I was way into sports - I was always busting up my fingers so I wasn't to serious about guitar.

I moved to LA from Chicago when I was 19, and ended up hanging at the Baked Potato alot. I lucked into some session work when Landau didn't have time to finish some stuff - Jeff Porcaro was the drummer on that cd so I was pretty stoked to even be credited with those dudes.

I would have to say David Gilmour was the main influence. When I was younger I used to sit there and think, "man, if I could play guitar I'd want it to sound like that..." He still slays me.

Since then, everybody's an influence. I'm mostly influenced by bands or singer/songwriters or production these days - Radiohead, Travis, Coldplay, Doves, Neil Finn, Jon Brion, Elliott Smith, Aimee Mann, Joseph Arthur, Nik Kershaw - so many people I respect. Those are the ones I always go to on my iPod for inspiration...

Hey Glenn,
What cd is this you are talking about?

stealth
12-30-2005, 10:05 PM
It was for a producer that worked with those players all the time, some songwriter dudes or something, nothing major. It was only worth mentioning that since didn't erase all my tracks and have Landau come back in to record over the slacker (lol) I thought that maybe I could give the music thing a shot.

Soon after that I recall doing sessions for John Elefante - he did a few great solo cd's - those were memorable sessions, he's an amazing singer. It was the first time I experienced huge sounds coming back through vintage Neve consoles and all their riduculous recording gear...those were fun days in Orange County.

If you can find Elefante's cd's those might be worth a listen.

Yeah it was always fun tracking with John because he would stand in the console room and sing scratch vocals with a 57 while we were tracking, sounded awesome.

I usually split the acoustic signal between a Baggs ParaDI that goes to the console and then to a SWR acoustic amp for my own monitoring - I prefer hearing the acoustic through it's own amp.

I think all acoustic players should use their own acoustic amp instead of relying on a monitor to get their sound - same approach I have to electric.

I heard this 'feather' pickup in a Collings the other day and it was amazing sounding...I'm definitely gonna try one.

1) Have you ever used the THD plates and/or Dr. Z Air Brakes or similar systems. If so can you tell me how these units effect your overall sound quality. Do they keep your same orignal tone or do these units alter it somewhat??? Do you know if these units can be used with COMBO amps?

2) In a previous post you mentioned you used an LR Baggs DI for your acoustic applications. I was looking into the JDI by Radial Engineering. Is there really much difference in DIs overall? Is it proper to apply "You get what you pay for" cliche in this case, or are DIs pretty close in what they do?

1- I have a few of the Hotplates - they work fine, I really haven't tried the others out there, I only used the HP's when I was slaving amps into a rack system which I haven't done in a while...I prefer the sound of amps the way they are, with as little as possible in the way to preserve signal path - if you need less volume try a lower wattage amp...

2 - I like the acoustic direct box to have some eq flexibility on it - Baggs, Sansamp, Taylor/Neve, etc all have good dedicated acoustic DI's. That way I can 'fix' anything weird I hear instantly or even during a live gig.

http://www.taylorguitars.com/technology/k4/

Those all have built-in XLR direct outs so you wouldn't need a separate direct box - BUT the Radial company is great - they make excellent products, I dig their Tonebone overdrives.

Do you use a compressor for your clean sound?

Yeah I have a bunch of compressor pedals, I think I've owned every comp pedal ever made...they all do something different, some work great with od's, others don't - I think because I liked them all for different reasons and couldn't have them all on the board I didn't put any on there - lol.

I've also been doing the boost thing lately as opposed to comps, that's also why you don't see them on there. The ones that don't mess with the tone, but add a little grit+compression are cool like the ZVex Super Duper.

http://zvex.com/super.html

As far as having unique gear, I remember when having a ÷13 was unique. A friend said you gotta check out this dude nobody ever heard of making amps in Balboa. The parking is so insane and crowded down there, Fred's wife sat in a lawn chair reading a book to save a parking spot for me until I got there! How cool is that - I'm stoked for his success.

the Guyatone compressor

Yeah the Guyatone is easily the best for the money, and the direct switch makes it work great with overdrives. There are others that have a more refined sounding compression but don't work well with overdrives - just mainly for clean.

The compressor pedal is the most elusive - they all have their merits. I've heard good things about this AYA - I guess there's always room for another comp pedal in the collection:

Is the Tube Zone a medium gain pedal(overdrive) or a higher gain pedal(distortion)? How do you use it? The new Maxon comp looks interesting too...

http://godlyke.com/product.asp?item=172

The MI TZ is one of the few pedals I've found that can do both low-gain and high-gain really well. It's got a switch on the top for some different tone variations, so it's pretty versatile. I usually set it for higher gain soloing jive, and use something else for boost/low gain - mainly because there are literally hundreds of low-gain screamer type pedals to choose from these days, but not many do the high-gain cranked Marshall thing.

The new MI Crunch Box looks cool too with the mxr sized box...

My favorite of Tom's guitars - let's see some pics.

Well, I had an Atom with three of the Anderson mini hums, and it lacked the edge and beefiness that a dual humbucker Cobra has. So I sold the Atom and got this Cobra. My criteria were that it had to have an H1- in the neck, an H2 or H2+ in the bridge, and a vintage trem. I had played some at Mass Street Music in Lawrence that sounded killer but lacked the vintage trem. I was going to order one in flamed Light Tiger Eye, but I found this one at Indoor Storm:

Bring back some memories? :D I know you had a trans black one on the MWS DVDs. Killer guitar. It rounds out my Andy collection nicely. I have a Hollow Classic with Fralins (pic in this thread (http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=125411)) and a Hollow T Classic, too.

÷13 stuff has worked fine for me for years - you can't go wrong with any of Fred's amps.

Have you played the RSA 31? Fred said it's got the Vox thing going on; I forgot to ask him about the click channel though--what does it sound like to you? Does it do the Marshall thing?

Hey, that's MY guitar...not really, close though. Great sounding guitar. Did you talk to Eddie Berman at Indoor?

The RSA 31 and 23 are killer. You really gotta try them to know which one would be best. Back when I got mine he only made two amps, ERT and FTR.

I asked him to make the SJT for me with EL34's. It was alot easier to decide then...

Never got to talk to him; enjoyed all his clips of their higher-end gear, though. I did all my business with Dave. He gave me a GREAT deal on that guitar.

Man, that's the thing--I really have no way of trying out ÷13 amps. I'm in Kansas. :(

I am going to LA for a week in March. Flying United...if I can get my Cobra on the plane with me, I may try heading out to Fred's shop.

I'm a fan of the 34s as well...my main amp right now is a GT Soul-O 75 with 2 EL34s.

Hey Glenn, I have a tone problem I hope you can help with. The church I attend just updated it's sound system, so now everyone goes direct to the board and no amps are allowed on stage (we're using Aviom personal monitors, so monitoring is covered). I can live with an amp modeler / preamp (POD, Sansamp, etc.), but I feel like something is missing. I've thought about setting the amp backstage, but it wouldn't be accessible.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Keith

I only thought the pod was a great idea if you needed to record an idea at 3am and you didn't want the cops to show up. The concept of actually replacing warm, glowing tubes with it, boggles the mind.

You could bury the amp in an isolated room somewhere - but I definitely think something is lost if the guitar isn't somewhere in the vicinity of the amp - turning it around so it faces backwards works too if you're on an in-ear monitor system.

Jim Tyler once said God uses a Tele into a Deluxe Reverb, because God appreciates good tone...

You could try having the amp near you but isolating or surrounding it with sound proofing foam/material. The amp still sounds great and the stage volume isn't really an issue any more. Of course, make sure it's miked and it only works if you have in-ear monitoring.

Is there a brand of e-guitar strings that has worked well for you? What gauge do you use?

Thanks,

Elixer has been really good to us, so I've been using them for the past few years and actually got really used to them. I use the standard .010 nanoweb set for electric and .012 set for acoustic.

They always feel and sound new, and are great for any outdoor/festival gigs where the guitars sit in any kind of humidity, or if sweat is involved.

I realize that's sacrilege to certain TGP personalities like Danocaster :NUTS but he's never let me try a set of his sacred 'snakeoils'...

Definition:

'Sacrilege' is in general the violation or injurious treatment of a sacred object. In a less proper sense any transgression against the virtue of religion would be a sacrilege. It can come in the form of irreverence to sacred persons, places, and things [or strings]. :)

Hey Stealth.....been listening to yer stuff for years.....thanks for your art! I met up with Danocaster at Namm, great guy, he just helped me with some Tele stuff. By the way, thanks largely to this thread (one of the longer lasting ones on tgp) ....I scraped tooth and nails, gave blood and spinal fluid, etc......and scored a /13 SJT 10-20 combo....never been happier with pure tone in my life! Can't wait to gig with it.

Oh, and so far,...the snake oil strings are awesome! I'm a wreck on strings, these are actually lasting me sometime. Me likey......

I've got that guy hanging on the wall in my office/studio. My favorite Picasso by far.

Got another question for you, Stealth: What are some of your favorite NON-transparent ODs?

stealth
02-25-2006, 12:08 PM
As far as the delay thing goes, I like the darker sounding ones, so the analogman tone-cut mod is cool for the DD-5. I also use the DD-20 if I have space, and the L6 Echo Park is great. In the rack days I used the 2290 and Lexicon stuff, so I guess that's the sound I try to go for with pedals.

NON-transparent ODs

Not sure what that means... ??? either they work for me or they don't, I suppose. These days pretty much everything I've tried sounds pretty great. I never got into the whole Tubescreamer mania - it seemed to me that there were so many other pedals that sounded better, imho. I like the Sonic Distortion for example. The original Rat for the Gilmour thing, Tonebone Classic for a tube pedal...are those non-transparent?

SRV sounded killer with his screamers, but there seemed to be so many other elements to his sound than that one pedal. I play through them and sound like wank. 8^(

Not sure what [non-transparent ODs] means... ???

I guess I mean that all my OD pedals are really transparent and just enhance the tone that is already there. Lovepedal COTs, V-Stacks, ect. are supposed to emulate a classic amp's gain, so I guess I would consider them non-transparent. My question was an effort to see what your favorite OD pedals are that have a very specific sound and change the tone of your guitar quite a bit (non-transparent) instead of keeping your original tone in tact. I feel like my ODs (Hermida ZenDrive & Mosferatu, Barber DD) are all pretty similar and are generally described as transparent ODs.

I dunno...maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Chaz: what is the set up on your /13 amp that you posted a pics of on this board? (speaker size, wattage, FX, etc) How long was the delivery time?

Stealth: Are you still primarily playing through a /13, if so which one(s)?

Which amp would you guys recommend for playing in church praise and worship band setting. note: I mike my amp through the mix. the church is a small congration operating in a 200-350 seat enrivonment.

Are any of your wah pedals modded for true bypassing? I was wondering. If not, do you know of anyone who has done that and been really happy with the result?

Thanks,

Hey Rob (6stringer)...i bought it used, here on tgp just a few weeks ago. It's the 10/20 model, 1x12. I play churches about the same size as you mentioned. FX wise, I'm using a tonepress, eternity, timmy, clyde wah, choralflange and a DL4.
If you are looking for a small combo amp with unbelievable clean tones, this is the one.

A lot of wahs are true bypass. I use a Budda, and it's TB. I believe that the Fulltone's Clyde, the RMCs, and the Teese wah are all TB.

Nah I think we're all tryin to figure it out - I haven't tried some of those pedals mentioned, the pics of my pedalboards are pretty much what I use now.

I use the Budda wahs and they sound good - I'm not that picky when it comes to wahs. I think Landau's wah sounds amazing when I've heard him live, maybe Bradshaw or Suhr are responsible there.

I stood in front of edge's rig and his wah sounds killer...no idea what he's using - looks like a crybaby of some sort. Maybe it's just because he's the frickin' edge.

6stringer: Yeah right now I'm using the Naylor or ÷13 SJT.

Maybe it's just because he's the frickin' edge.

Definitely. Not maybe. Definitely.

You know what's amazing about the Edge? Well, lots of things, of course, but here's a good one: On the Joshua Tree DVD, the Edge is standing in the studio talking about some of his tracks, and he's got an unplugged black Strat strapped on. He starts strumming a D chord along while explaining the track. My jaw dropped to the floor when I realized that it had his sound. Completely unplugged!! It sounded like the Edge. You'd know it was him if your eyes were closed. And it was just a freakin open D chord! For such a long time, I thought his sound was tied into all the effects, but it's in his hands. I was blown away by that.

Stealth: Have you ever had any of your guitars run through a PLEK machine? A machine from Germany that works on frets/action/truss/etc. From what I see on the www. there are only a few places that do this. John SUHR apparently runs his guitars through them as part of the build process. What is your take on this "jive".

Any new projects or tours with MWS or anyone else in your future?

Stealth - Saw your Paul Baloche DVD recently. I am considering building a small practice pedalboard similar to the one in the video and was wondering how your pedals were chained. Can you tell me which pedals were being switched/bypassed with the Boss Line Selector?

I think I saw a Mojo Vibe off to the side and detected it on your impromptu solo with the whammy dive chords (ended with a cool pulsating effect). Did you use it on any other parts of the DVD?

stealth
03-19-2006, 12:39 PM
Don't know anything about the plek - i've been out of the loop on alot of the latest jive...you gotta ask danocaster about any of that stuff(!).

The TZ has plenty of gain so it doesn't really need a boost, but I threw the RC on the board the other day and it worked good. There are alot of good boosts out there now.

I actually have never seen that baloche dvd - we did it right before i had to fly out of texas as a last second thing and we didn't even discuss what we would be talking about, so it was a blur. The A/B box was to switch between overdrives and comp. The Mojo Vobe is killer, I always make sure there's one on the board.

These are pics from a session i did in LA a few days ago - the highlight was using a memory man signed by daniel lanois:

Glenn,

Was this the session for Cameron? He attends the church I lead worship at. I was talking with him today after services and he was going on and on about what you brought to his tracks. Cameron told me Busbie tells him a guy named Glenn is coming to cut some tracks and the conversation is sort of like ... "who's he ... plays with MWS ... really, I'm not sure about this" ... Then you started playing ...

He played a rough mix of one of them and it sounded huge. Great tone as always.
