Several current and former Fuchs ODS owners have told me the 100w version is tonally superior to the 50w. And not just due to more headroom.

They have raved about better overall tones from the 100 watter. Is there anything to this? What are your experiences here?

Please don't just respond with something like "I have and ODS50 and I love it." I am trying to find out what substantive differences there might be between the two amps. Has anyone played them both, and especially A/B-ed them?

Thanks.

Well one difference is that one is twice is the wattage of the other, that has a very big difference on tone. I think it sounds better. IMO of course.

it's the iron and the reaction of 4 output tubes versus 2.

Like diagrammatiks says: Iron. Lots of other builders have gone to "big iron". We went to oversize iron years ago. Our 50 is larger than most average 50 watters, and the 100 is even bigger still. The preamp, chassis, and most everything else is the same, so it's really nothing more than having more horsepower behind the tone. We ain't holding anything back in the lower powered stuff, honest !
