Yeah. One of the best purchases I've ever made. Quality from top to bottom! I couldn't recommend them enough...Mike's a great guy to work with and builds a great product. I've had mine for about 3/4 years now.

Just curious, both original LTDs? Do you stack 'em or just set them differently? Original LTD is my favorite low gain overdrive as well...had a silver, currently also have an SR, still like the original best, so I'm thinking about picking up another one. I don't like turning up the drive past 1 o'clock though... How do you have yours set (how about internal pots too)?

Pretty amazing now that everything is dialed in. Ben really knew what I wanted when he built that amp for me. Basically the balls of a Twin with the personality of a Showman (because Twins can be buzzy with OD pedals where Showmans love them). The Klon works great alone, or stacked with any pedal to it's right in the picture. I kept the CB to the left of it because it does not need to be stacked with anything and I didn't want to accidentally hit it on stage. You will not regret the purchase of either! RS

Haha, yeah tell me about it. I've already got a lovepedal morph ordered, and I'm looking into the analogman chorus or something just as good if not better.
Btw, I'm so inspired by all of these amazing pedalboards, with pedals I wish I had haha. Great job guys/gals!

I sold my Blues Junior last week - the first step on the road to picking up a new amp. I'm close but still need to save up some cash. I am definately looking for something in the vintage-Fender-ish camp - either a true SF DR or VR or some boutique equivalent.

the "board" is actually a plastic shelf type thing i found near my work. i covered it with the fabric and wahlla... free light board.
i should be changing it real soon. finalizing a line up and doing some clean up of the cables and such.
possibly adding another level which will be made out of plastic crate.

The case is a DAP Showmaster 48 flightcase. It's not full roadie proof (or UPS FEDEX of DHL proof, but lightweight 'good enough' for me!
On the front of the case you see a custom build footswitch. The 5 most left switches are for channel switching my Bogner XTC (3 channel & 2 boost). The other 5 switches will be used for my TC 2290 (Tap and remote key 1-4)
2 EB Volume pedals, the one on the right for guitar volume, the other one for de level of the delay.
A Silvermachine Wah, FX Eng Mirage compressor, MI Audio blue boy Deluxe, Xotic RC Booster, ZVEx Box of Rock, Boss tuner, Arion SCX-1 chorus and Boss DD-6 delay.
The empty spot is reserved for a booster wich will be put in the effect loop of my XTC. Don't know wich booster to choose.
All is being powered by a Voodoolab Pedalpower (hidden under the Chorus and Boss). The connection will be on the back of the case! Will make pictures when it's ready.
I have to make the patch cables and then it's ready to rock!

Board out of the case to take gut shots. Not only is this my pedal board, there's a quick connect for my mic stand in it. This also houses my AKG wireless receiver so there is only one signal cable between it and my amp. The only other cables are 1 AC for power and another cable for amp channel switching. All the tabs holding pedals in place are plastic pipe straps from the hardware store. I got a roll of it for about $4 and it strong enough to lift me off the ground but cuts easily with scissors. The wireless receiver is mounted elevated on an old Line6 POD mic stand mount & the cooling fan for the power supply inside is directly under it to keep it hidden. The stand has a big hole in the bottom of it and I used a hole saw to make a corresponding hole in the board for air flow.
Since this picture, I've ditched the cheapo Dano delay for a Tycobrahe Octavia I built. Signal chain has been rearranged since this pic to put the overdrives after the MicroVibe, and I've ditched the Dano delay and replaced it with a Tycobrahe Octavia clone I built. Other DIY pedals are the "Ballbreaker Blues" (Bluesbreaker), "ReBote Theory" digital delay, the Octavia (not shown) and I've modded the Boss pedals for higher fidelity according the the Keeley specs available online. The Crybaby is also modded with true bypass and slightly tailored for better tone. The Line6 pedal will be replaced with a pedal I build (type yet to be determined) and the unreliable MicroVibe has me building it's replacement right now:
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee255/BubbaKahuna/MVC-419F.jpg
Gut shot showing the power supply I built using the Weber multi winding transformer, cooling fan, mic stand mount & back of power jack plate. AC input is on the left via a computer power quick connect. Note ground wire to the chassis rivet at the front of the board for extra safety:
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee255/BubbaKahuna/MVC-420F.jpg
Closeup of my DIY power supply. Brown wires are AC out from tranny, red & black are DC going to pedals power jacks. Each line supplies 9VDC @ about 300mA. The unused green wires are a 9VAC line reserved for future use - it supplies up to a full 2A of current so I could add some real power hog to the board if I could find the space for it or replace something already here:
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee255/BubbaKahuna/MVC-414F.jpg
Current layout with Tycobrahe Octavia onboard:
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee255/BubbaKahuna/MVC-484F.jpg
Detail shots. Yes that's a Bass Chorus on my guitar board because it has better bass response. It's also got the Keeley high fidelity mod (done by me). The "Gotham Octavia" and "Ballbreaker Blues" are toner transfer right on the enclosure for graphics with several coats of clear on top of that for protection. The "ReBote Theory" digital delay is acid etched and clear coated. I plan on all my future builds to be acid etched for the graphics. It looks really cool in person - very industrial vibe done like that and virtually bullet proof. Even the bottom is etched (but of course you can't see that here). You can also see the little channel on the side of the case for goodies like business cards and picks:
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee255/BubbaKahuna/MVC-482F.jpg
More pedals. The 2 in the center are the only ones not modded by me because I plan on replacing them ASAP:
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee255/BubbaKahuna/MVC-483F.jpg
Mic stand stores in the lid of the pedalboard, makes for a really fast setup at gigs:
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee255/BubbaKahuna/MVC-481F.jpg
All closed up and ready to gig:
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee255/BubbaKahuna/MVC-485F.jpg
Bottom is non-slip vinyl so it doesn't move when I'm playing. Also isolates the board's frame from the floor for quieter operation since the mic stand is built into the board:

Awesome!
I'm also thinking about getting a Showmaster case.. you can get them for like 70 euros / 100 US$ here in Switzerland... which is by *far* the best bang for the buck for a pedalboard-suitable flightcase.
Right now I've got a Warwick Rockcase (the largest, 80x50 cm), but two corner protectors have already broken off after the first 3 gigs! The rubber feet are half gone I think--
See the (extremely crappy) pic at:
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showpost.php?p=3063333&postcount=7694
The Warwick is too big anyway... my bandmates complain all the time :puh
But try fitting a Maestro Stage Phaser on a pedalboard ;)
I particularly like the "switching lane" all the way across. Is that made from a Hammond enclosure?

vulcaniza P
10-23-2007, 02:18 PM
the dragster is a pick up load correction box. http://www.tonebone.com/tb-dragster.htm
i read about it and decided to give it a try. to my ears it adds a nice lil top end that isn't there without it. can't go wrong there.
the pog is the bees knees so far. i'm gonna use it with the chorus effect of the dano rocky road for some faux organ type sounds.... if i need a lil more swirl then the e.h. small stone gets fired up.
no flanger.
the set up will prolly change a lil before the gig (early halloween morning). i thinking i may bring in a boss rc 20 to provide a drum loop or 2 as there will be no drummer and it's just a bassist and myself.
who said jazz had to be uneffected and stuck in the 50's?
miles and the rest would boo you good sir.
as it is the "bassist/ leader/ guy who got the gig" will probably want me use a wah as well.

It sounds like a lot, but it's one of my favorite purchases. Plus, with what some pedals go for these days, it seems like a bargain.
Side story: I almost spent more than that on a boutique pedal the other day, but the seller didn't have the courtesy to respond to a trade offer, so I decided not to take the next step which would have been to buy it. Now the price is dropping. :munch

Just done a big redesign of my board, the RC boost, BOR, DD-20 and Silver Machine Wah went and a BJF SBEQ, DRD, Nova Delay and a soon to arrive Area 51 wah replaced them.
Also waiting for a Axess BS2 Buffer to arrive and I think Im done! (Famous last words!)
As a side note the two BJF pedals are amazing, pricey but well worth the money, certainly better than the RC and BOR they replaced.
The SBEQ just sounds way more natural than the RC and the RC was one pedal I never thought Id get rid of but the SBEQ just beats it in every respect.
I prefer the DRD's voicing better than the BOR. The BOR just seemed a tad muddy in my rig but the DRD cuts through like a charm, very versitile aswell!

A rare TRI-A.C. user, nice!
How do you have the TRI-A.C. set? And what amp are you using it with? Are you happy with your tones?
I have the TRI-A.C. / Power Engine 60 combo, with some pedals in-betwen (Boss CS-2 > Whammy/Wah > Fulltone Fat-Boost > Keeley TS-9 in front of the TRI-A.C. and then ISP Decimator > Ernie Ball VPJr > Boss TU-12H > Keley DD-3 > EHX Holy Grail > Peavey Q431F EQ after.

Not sure who makes them. David at LASD supplied them.
They are essentially a version of the Switchcraft 226 flat mono but with a solder lug for the ground.
Matt
I didn't realize how much space the Korg took up! Wow!
Yeah, it's the size of an average mid-range multi-effects unit.
It also doesn't play too nice with the RAT. If the RAT's engaged there's a modulated whistling noise from the G4 at the same rate as the G4's set to, even if the G4's bypassed. I guess this is down to the +ve earth on the RAT and -ve earths on everything else.

Yup, thats a PT Pro. The Timmy is great with the DRD, just adds that bit of extra grit when stacked, great for solo's!

Yeah, the wiring is about perfect- all of the power cables go down the right side and the audio the left side. Dave used flat plugs where possible to minimize wasted space.
The lifts make the pedals much more accessible. It made me want lifts on my CAE board.

Pretty happy with the latest line up.
I do want to add a tremolo or some other modulation, but then have to either remove something, build a new board (with a slightly lower tier :D),or buy a real board.
The path is: guitar>Fuzz Factory>CC2 Octave>CC2 Fuzzfoot>Fulltone Clyde>TF Filter>CC2 Pro-Vibe>Lovekraft Boost (under tier,always on)>Lovekraft Yo Llama>Lovekraft Chupacabra>LDO clone>Skreddy Cognitive Dissonance>Arion SAD-1> into a Fargen Bastage head and 2x12 cab with V-30's

I really like it for my needs. I don't use it but on a about 3 songs a night. But, it does what I need. It also does a nice reverb thing.

That's an Alesis F2 (http://www.alesis.com/product.php?id=92), and it does the expression and/or volume pedal thing. I use it as an expression pedal for the FM4. I got tired of replacing Line 6 expression pedals, so I wanted something a little more durable. The Alesis has worked great so far.

The CogDis is a version of a Mayo that used the same Trannies and as the Triangle-knob Big Muff,"Super Mayo" was the working title.

The Power Driver is only off because I ran out of room when the Ultar arrived and I wanted that on board to give it a thorough going over! Hence my wanting a new board so that I can fit it all on. Unfortunately a lot of the pedals that I love just happen to be big as hell so I've run out of room...
I'd like to put the Power Driver back in first place... or the MkIII - that's a hard decision.

you can help me make a real pedalboard compete with handles when I actually manage to get my hands on some pedals of my own. It'll take me a while to save up for even just the eternity! :bkw Being a college student isn't very lucrative!

hey mate,
can you talk to me about the D/13 joyride?
Pretty cool pedal if you run it properly.
Really shines pushing amps over the edge and into another zone.
Think of it as a specialty pedal and works best on tube amps already breaking up and set hot.
With an amp on a clean setting the pedal dimed out can get you some intense "Fuzz" tones with tons of saturation.
Works extremely well with D13 amps, especially its voicing, but works with others as well.
Its actually for sale in the emporium...

haha, thanks man. I'm just testing them out till I can afford my own decent pedals.. I must admit though, Chris's idea to use the plexiglass was brilliant. I have a FBV shortboard for my flextone III, but that's cheating.. and I'm trying to sell the amp and shortboard so I can get a fender blues junior which would fit better in my dorm room!

here's my last evolution of my pedal board, thing haven't changed dramaticaly in the last year. I still take most of my clean/crunch from the amp (Koch Twintone) using pedals to add some colours or spaces...
Guitar > Volume > Looper send/return > amp
(arion Octave > dunlop Wah > seek Wah > fulltone Univibe)
Amp FX loop: MXR graphic eq > EH delay
Nb. I've recently been adding a Digitech Jamman looper, plugging from my delay's stereo out to P.A.
NBB Arion Octave is a real bargain octave (two octaves down, no fuzz) if you're looking for a cheap one! Very similar to Boss Oc-2...

Who are you asking? :NUTS
Anyway, I really dig mine (http://www.kyletompkins.com/wp/?p=267). The trem has square wave settings for hard cuts and the "tube" setting is a lot more natural and amp-like. The different trem pattern settings are novel, but the straight ahead on-off-on-off pattern are what you'll use most. The tap tempo is great to have if you're anal about that. I, personally, like my trem to be off tempo to create some tension. What I use the tap most for is switching between a slow and a fast speed preset using the 2-speed setting, the ramp up/ramp down is cool enough to write songs around. Overall, this is a very versatile trem for people who really need more flexibility.
My current rig (http://www.kyletompkins.com/wp/?p=267).

everything seems laid out more sensibly.
the signal chain has pretty much everything (i look at these huge PT pros and dont see anything i havnt got covered really)
next thing will probably be swapping the SCOD for a mayo.
and fitting a peep on there for the E600 maybe?
the BJ can get high enough gain for me. and i feel a big muff tone would have more use than a redundant overdrive.

strung with 12s, plays nice, sounds nice. i dont see the problem...
ive worked long and hard at fitting so much stuff on a PTJnr! only kidding, it just sorta happens.
as for the SCOD, the BJ with a big boost can get the same gain territory = SCOD not needed.
thanks markom
the ekko600 is really really nice. really haunts my mids.
mine doesnt yet have the noise mod... but tbh i really like it as it is, and im reluctant to get it changed. the noise is only noticable when you play in a way to hear it if that makes sense. using it as it should be used theres no issues at all.
thanks to this pedal my whole rig really has teh haunting midz

heres a decent question:
how does the keeley ad9 compare to the malekko echo 600?
..id doesnt have the auto oscillate feature.. but in terms of voicing, etc...?
pretty different things really.
the e600 cant get really short times. min on the time control is about the same as the keeley at 12 o clock. (that said the keeley has very very short delay times up to 12 o clock and then they start to get longer seemingly exponentialy?)
the voicings are different.
both have a fair amount of distortion on the repeats, probably more so on the E600.
AD9 is much better for the slapback stuff while the E600 excels at longer ambient stuff. (of course the AD9 only has half the time of the E600)
the E600 also self oscillates a billion times better no encouragement is needed. AD9 you need to keep hitting it with some signal to set it off and even then it will die out eventually. ad9 is much clickier with self oscillation. the E600 can get the smooth glassando as heard on all classic sci fis!

I dig it a lot and it seems like I'm coming up with new uses for it all the time. Dry+upper octave for Radiohead "My Iron Lung" sound, all knobs up + Big Muff for crazy White Stripes riffs, use it with the trem and turn guitar tone down for great organ-like chording, use upper octave only to kick solos into a new range... lots of possibilities with it. Tracking is perfect.

definately got some sounds in it.
somethings id swap out simply for taste.
my main issue with this board is id be a little worried about things breaking.
i can get pretty hyped on stage
and have previously put my foot through a number of pedals
including two danelectro pedals, a digitech pedal, a dunlop crybaby (somehow!?) and a fender tuner.
this was the main issue which turned me on to the boutique guys, after i'd spent more than the price of a decent overdrive on getting a cheap one fixed or replaced many times i figured i needed to save myself the hassle.
however if i was just playing at home i wouldnt have any issues with them at all.

You know what the crazy thing is? He probably spent less in total for the whole board than a single Landgraff or Klon. Scary.
One of the local independents here sells the Behringer pedals. They had a display (for xmas ideas) with the PB and 12 pedals of your choice for $350. Guy told me he's sold a ton to players who just want to experiment with different stuff on the cheap.

Do you mean 'the' Verbzilla, or are you talking about 'just a Tonecore dock', which ofcourse will allow you to use a Verbzilla, but also the -excellent- other ones? Perhaps if you're 'kinda' interested in synths and stuff, why nog get a Tonecore dock with a Verbzilla and an Otto Filter ?
About modulations, it might be a little 'overkill', but with some smart planning, the Line6 MM-4 should fit right in with the DL and the DM :BluesBros
I love this case btw ! nicely done..
finally got around to doing this...

Not pictured is the Laney VC30 footswitch and i'd like to pick up one of the Line6 Verbzilla pedals, and maybe some sort of synth/mod pedal.

Radcliff, do you stack the E with anything?

I enjoy this one greatly. I haven't installed a power supply yet. The Fulltone pedals sound best with batteries, IMO. The delay could use one though.

Thnx for the compliment above. I really like this setup, it has been a struggle to find the right delay pedals for what I'm going for. I used to have a DD20 and DL4.
I stack the E with the RC or the COT. The E is my desert island pedal, but the RC and AM Chorus haven't left since I got them. Same for COT, all outstanding pedals.
E and COT, like everyone said it would, is an awesome combo.
I switch out the Rabbit or the E for the Zendrive when I play with humbuckers. The Zen is IT with humbuckers.

haha no man, I hadnt even plugged it in yet!!...just got it home...looked so pretty next to my board...decided to take a photo...
the amp is quite bright...so i usually have bass at 1 o clock and treble at 10 o clock.....it works great with all my pedals especially the eternity(which didnt gel too well with the marshall).....
the blonde one is damn nice.....red is just more me;)

how do you like the Catalinbread Serrano Boost- i LOVE the size. i'm thinking about getting one to put after the delays in my effects loop for a volume boost. is it worth it? how about the hyperpack?

Yea, the Gries 5 is awesome...exactly what i been looking for: a real be-all-end-all amp!
I'm of the philosophy of finding a super amp to simply sit clean (and do an awesome job at that), and then colouring it in as you wish with pedals & so on...Gries has done it for me! ;)
Highly recommended! Go for it Jms!! :D

I have all four of the mini pedals they are all excellent, the Serrano is a great clean boost perfect for pushing a tube amp you just can't beat it for the size and price.
The hyperpak is great as well very much in the Red Llama vein which to me has always been a great od/dist route to take.
You can't go wrong with Catalinbread, great pedals, great price and a great guy to deal with.
Hope this helps

Hey

The MicroReverb sounds really good... I got a unbelievable deal on it @ Guitar Heaven - for whatever reason, they ARE hard to find? Very clean with a broad spectrum of sounds. Not true bypass, and by "todays" standards there are MUCH better reverbs pedals out there. It does have that "must have" mystique about it due to it's limited availability. Keep your eye on music shops and pawn shops- they show up occasionally at an appropriate price for what you're getting. I only paid $70 bucks for mine and it was LNIB w/book. Steer clear of Evilbay and the like as folks think they have something like Jimi's original fuzzface... I saw the MR2 on there for a reserve of 200 bucks - it's a cool little reverb, but not worth that kind of money. Good hunting!
