They most definitely exist. It's a very cool fuzz. :crazyguy

The order is as follows: od820>pog>woodrow>eternity>guv'nor>'69>ff>bsm rm>ce-1>p.p.>trem>rv-2>dm-2>dd-2

Is that an appropriate order for these suckers? suggestions are appreciated!

Nice pedals! If it's working for you, then it's perfect. Some people worry about putting octavers before dirt because of possible intermodulation - dont know if you use the POG and other dirt pedals together, or whether you've had any problems with this.

I tend to like trems before delays as well, but there's probably no reason not to try it the other way.. For your last few pedals I would do trem>DD-2>DM-2>RV2. If running two delays at once, you can get a nice sound by having a longer digital delay into a shorter, warmer analog delay (a la the Edge). And I always prefer my delays reverberated, rather than my reverb trails delayed, but as always, YMMV.

Just curious, what is the purpose of the loooper in your setup if the tuner is the only tone sucker and all the footswitches look pretty easy to get at without it. Don't get me wrong it looks sweet, but is there any real reason to use it?

Here's my current rig:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v449/jahn0603/Pedals/pbfull.jpg

The board is at a right angle to the amp so I can play my Tele without 60 Cycle Hum. Sad, eh? Dirty power in the house tho. I'm going to buy Area T pickups for the Tele, no one should have to live like this.

Anyhow, the board itself is a temp layout since the patch cables I have are from all walks of life, some are way too hefty and inflexible:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v449/jahn0603/Pedals/PB006.jpg

So I just ordered Bill Lawrence' DIY kit so I can make a few patches, and I'll make a guitar cable too so the A/B/Y box can have a channel going to the amp that doesn't loop through any pedals. I'll probably add a Strobostomp at some point which is why the upper right corner is MIA. So I took everything off my board that will need updates, and I'm left with only these two tied down, how sad is that?

Edit - actually I discovered that the Fuzz Factory sounds best with no buffer in front of it, so screw the 'stomp, I'm putting the FF there instead! It's all coming together...these are the ones that are tied down for now, I can live with these cables.

I don't think we've bought/sold from one another. I ran a website (I shut it down recently) called RAILhead Design. I don't know if you're Mac guy, but if you are, you may have heard of me in those circles.

The "10" is actually "io": a high-gain distortion pedal I made. The one on my board is sporting the name in all-caps so it looks like a 10, but the final art will be lowercase. :)

I like the Small Fry a lot, and it sounds great with my hollow bodies (Reverend and DiPinto). I use it when I want a highly compressed distortion, but I default to my io, of course. :D

Man, I totally LOVE the Wizard. I like how it revs from the bottom so that it doesn't get too think and shrill at the top.

As for the Empress, it's the best one I've used, hands-down. I love the tap, the gain, everything just works.

Why are you trading out the Timeline?

Had a timeline before, and it sounded better than the timefactor. My only issues with the timeline were that they are poorly layed out(you can't use tap tempo and presets unless you have a midi controller), and that it was huge. Until recently I didn't have much available board space, but I decided to take several things off the board and now I have space for one again.

The DIY pedal is a BSIAB2. Works perfectly fine, sounds amazing. The three footswitch pedal is a CM Plexitone prototype.

In the works and due to be finished soon are a crunchy marshall type distortion (er...yep another one) and a Jack Orman Mosfet Boost.
After that I think I'll be done.

Oh and a TB loop in the mail for the AMT so I don't get hit with its cab simulation.

Signal is compressor -> Bad Monkey set as light gain boost -> modded SD1 for medium gain OD -> AMT diststation set for modern metal -> BSIAB for medium gain Marshall tones -> Big Muff -> Small Stones -> Plexitone

The Plexitone is set for a wee bit more gain than the BSIAB. The Brown Sound is more for leads, the Plexitone for rythms I found.

And all this goes to a Laney VC15.

Most of the pedals in there are buffered and I really dig the sound of it. I did some A/B tests and I'm much better off with the buffers.

Changed it all up again. The nova delay kind of forced me back to the furman board. It was just easier to go with since I already had it in the closet. I do notice the size difference when lugging it around as compared to the PTJr. Replaced the Fuzzfactory with the Fuzz Head. I might get a Discombobulator since I'm back to the big board and have the space. So much for trying to downsize.

I havent used modulation for a while - I tend to use the wah fuzz echo sound primarily. But the dop is a great pedal. Its as much univibe as it is phaser as it is vibrato, so is very versatile and I keep it for if I do want that sound. Plus they only go up in value, so no harm in hanging on to it...

As for the wizard, I like it lot. It is a good option if you want something different to the classic funk wah sound, so it might suit you. I havent tried the other teese wahs but I'm happy with the wizard.

Also a little update of my pedalboard. I'm very happy with my current setup. I'm only thinking of buying a ring modulator(still got some free apsce left), or another modulation pedal. And maybe a buffer, but I don't really know if that is necessary for my pedalboard. And I'm also thinking of buying a decimator, because most of the time i'm playing with single coils.

That's in centimeters, right? ;)
I should have looked at your spelling of neighborhood with a 'u' and figured out that you're a member of the majority of the world who deals with things metrically!
At first I was thinking inches, and I was, like... "No way!" because mine is 33 x 15 x 7 and our sizing looks relatively similar.

This is what i have for now. Though in the next few weeks there will be many changes.
Volume pedal, Pog, and Strobostomp.
And then I don't want the dd6 on there, thinking about changing that out for a DMM.

Yeah, definitely check out the Telenordia stuff, especially the TA-100 overdrive. Its become my #1 overdrive sound right now, really great for alt-country sound or vintage rock. And, Matt is a very cool guy.

+1

Matt is right up there with the best guys in the business.

I love my TA-100. It has a really classy yet raw tone that suits the Alt-Country/Americana/Rootsy Rock thing perfectly. My Vox and 65 London like it a lot but my Swart AST in particular just loves it!

I also have a TA-23 boost which our bass player has stolen for its full-range sound and Matt just custom modded an Ernie Ball Jr volume pedal for me with a switchable buffer-very cool indeed.

Thanks! Yea, I am hoping to get my fourth (it's the Earthquaker Delay) soon enough. I am still debating if I should keep the Nova. It has so many sweet sounds, but I feel I get the same range of sounds with my DD-5 and DE7. We'll see. I also borrow my friend's DL-4 for looping and some extra delay sounds when we gig together.

Basically have most of everything I want with this board minus some sweep filters that I may have to add at some point. I'll probably always experiment with overdrives (recently sold my m2 mosferatu and ethos) but this board is very versatile and packs a lot of colors.

The rules say that a pedalboard shouldnt be longer than a guitar case.

I didn't break the rules.

The rulebook doesnt say weather its a guitar case or bass case.

It's smaller than you may think actually.

I was using a keyboard gigbag, but it's too cumbersome for me..
I'll probably be using a laptop bag for my 'smörgasboard' and big band music-folder/binder or Paul Gilbert's approach; a double gig bag with one compartment for a pedalboard..

Dunno have to ask the wife.

It's 72 x 34 x 12, a little too shallow front to back, another 8 cm and I could easily get another row on it.

Weighs much more after shows than before them for some reason. same with my amps.

Which would mean about 30 kilos.

Hope I'm not being too metric.

It's just a tad thicker than a guitar case.
The pedals are close together because I'm a lead singer and don't like having to do the splits a lot, it's also logicly laid out - although nobody stands a chance of guessing what the signal chain is.

But please try for fun.

That would be a great thread! - guess my signal chain!

This has been my fave thread since joining this forum. I finally got someone to take pictures of my boards, so I can join in on the festivities. (Hopefully it works)

http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee277/Twangbanger72/?action=view&current=LittleBigBoard.jpg

The "Big Board" doesn't see as much action lately as it used to. (I was in an ensemble where we did a lot of 80's stuff, and (over)used modulation and delay effects accordingly). I'll be re-orienting it soon to better serve my current needs.

I use the "Little Big Board" on most of my gigs lately.
The chain goes: Guitar>Keeley bypass loop (used to toggle between tuner and effects)BYOC Wah>Retrosonic compressor>BYOC overdrive (The Vegas Drive...my take on the TS808)>Catalinbread SCOD> DIY bypass looper (two loops...one for delays, and one for modulation)>Xotic RC Booster>Amplifier.
In the Delay loop...a BYOC delay, and a Digitech Digidelay
In the Mod loop....The Surfer Girl (BYOC tremolo), Blue Cheese (BYOC chorus). On country gigs I'll swap the chorus for a BYOC phaser.

There's a Pedal Power 2 on the underside to supply the juice.

Later...

It's a PT2, which is 24 inches wide (about 61cm). However, the softcase that comes along with it accomodates more than that so you can have pedals and cables stick out a bit.

What happened to the Fireburst? And how's the Pinnacle II?

Traded the Fireburst to Brian @ Indyguitarist for the Pinnacle II.
The PII is a Crunch Box slayer (I know, I had two CBs).
Rich, articulate gain with a boatload of tonal options between the tone knob, contour knob, and bright switch.
Easily nails cranked Marshall, but also cops TS tones and a lot in between.
SRV, EVH, Zep, ZZ Top, Priest, GNR, AC/DC, it's all in there.
It'll even do a nice scooped-mids heavy crunch too.
A tad noisy on the distortion side if gain is past 1 o'clock, but I'm still in the honeymoon stage and am finding a balance between od & dist.

yagp:
the "black" box in the upper left is actually a chrome ISP Decimator.
Flash just makes it come out that way.

Old pedals recently replaced:

Pedalworx Cactus Crunch
Donnerboxed Cactus Crunch
Diamond Fireburst
Barber Small Fry
Retroman Lola fuzz
Semaphore tremolo
Boss CE20 chorus ensemble

New additions:

Keeley BD2 Phat
Indyguitarist Pinnacle II
Lovekraft Mojo Drive
Jacques Meistersinger chorus
Pentavocal tremolo
MoFaux vibe
Skreddy Screwdriver

Favorite combinations so far:

Addrock channel 1 into BD2 Phat
Screwdriver into Copperhead
Pinnacle II into itself ;)
Mojo Drive into BD2 Phat

What sold you on the OLC English Channel? I've been looking at one.

I almost embarassed to say but I bought it 'cause I saw it on Craigslist for a great price. Mine is actually a prototype serial number 1. It was made by OLC not a kit. I didn't expect much but I am soooooo in love with this pedal! Last night I played a bunch of U2 through an Epiphone Valve Junior and couldn't believe how good it sounds. My friend was skeptical too and dialed it in and started jamming some Revolver era Beatles and wow! Its the "spongiest" pedal I've ever played, VERY touch sensitive and VERY Jangly. If you want VOX this is VOX. Its bright, Jangly and gets dirtier the harder you dig into the strings. It also stacks very well.

Thanks. It is made in the name of practical and economic conciderations. On a Danish forum, there was people posting all the time in need of help regarding an easy and cheap diy board. So I found an old metal case and this so it would fit in the box and still have enough room for cables in the side. Also the power suplly fits nicely under the board.

The board will be changing soon.

Hilton volume, PedalFlanger, A.M. Juicer, A.M. Sunlion, DMM delay.

I have removed the fuzz and the compressor. I am using the compressor for my bass and the fuzz has been removed for a while. I will be adding a POG. I also have a Picture wah on the sidelines. I also use a 16 second delay, which is not in the picture. The Pedalflanger is great for flanging, vibe and chorus and is one of the strangest pedal ever made. It is loud, so there is a build in noise suppressor, but that kills the sustain, so I have had it modded to eliminate the noise suppression. It is a noisy pedal, but can do so many strange things from wah like sounds to phaser to robot sounds to amazing other sounds. The 16 second delay is one of my favorite pedals all time. I have no idea why EHX decided that the 2880 is a better pedal. The digital delay is one of the best digitial delays I have heard, in my humble opinion.

Here's my current configuration. I'm still dialing in the Zendrive so who knows whether I'll stay with this config or not. My last setup had the Timmy in the low gain od spot that the Zen now occupies, and I had an RC Booster in the lead boost spot that the Timmy is in currently.

Got it from BTBAM :BEER.

The pedal is awsome. It does crazy stuff, but it's also a very close second to the Frantone Vibutron I had for just straight trem. And I thought the Vibutron pretty much destroyed every other trem pedal i've owned.

Did you send your DL4 to Keeley? How do you like it?

Yep, Keeley modded. I really really like it. It's simple to use. Has a great looper ... and when it comes down to it ... It really is pretty easy to dial the pedal to sound very close to any of my analog pedals. I might keep my deluxe memory man around and just swap is into the DL4's space for whenever I happen to be feeling "organic" or analog. But ... the DL4 is very cool. The modulation kinda sucks ... but whatever ... everything else sounds great.

The Keeley DL-4 is also the quietest delay pedal I've ever used ... WAY quieter than the Timefactor or Nova I had.

Pedalflanger! Good work sir, and nice board. I liked the original 16 sec but didn't like the bars/click in of the reissue. But I agree in that the normal delay sounds from it are underrated.

Thanks, I know what you mean about the clicks, but mine has been modded so the clicks are out of the picture. For some reason, I like the fact the the sliders are set for measures/bar and not time. This is great for setting up a bass line and then playing the guitar over it. I have had other loopers, but I keep coming back to this one.

Will, tell us more about the pedalflanger, please... I'm looking to pick one of those up. How does it compare to say a standard Boss BF-2/3 type flanger, or the ADA, or foxrox... or just any flanger you've tried. It has both a manual and automatic mode, right? Is there any difference quality of sound wise between the two modes? Thanks.

All-stars are on the right side of the board. I'm digging the Klon + Mo'D combination a whole lot, and the AYA R-Comp is probably the best I've heard in such a tiny stomp. Looking to let the Landgraff Clean Boost though since I never use it -- anyone want it??

Marko

I haven't tried the FoxRox flanger. However, I have heard it played. I have never owned an ADA flanger either, but have heard it up close and personal. I have owned a Boss BF-3 and Maxon flanger and Ibanez flanger.

I think as flangers goes, it can get the original jet whoosh flanger sounds and chorusy sounds that most flangers get. It has does some stuttery vibey sounds and some good leslie simulation. Better than some chorus pedals that I have owned (again Maxon, Analogman, Boss, Small Stone).

It also has an "arch-top guitar" simulation. It also has some weird sounds that are completely hard to describe: robot sounds, laser gun sounds, and these sounds can be adjusted with the foot pedal. Yes, there are automatic and manual settings.

Mine is a Chicago Iron pedal and not the vintage, so I worked with Kurt and he was very helpful. Mine is #25.

I opened it up and it was gooped, but not gooped like my old Eternity. I was able to compare it to the schematics and pictures I have found of the original Pedal Flangers. It is really, really close. I imagine that Kurt won't be able to make too many of these because of the rarity of the parts.

It is expensive, but really is so unique and versatile that it was worth it for me. I think for spacy, loopy solo ambient stuff it is great! I don't do Pink Floyd music, but I imagine that it would be good for that style too.

I keep an engineering log book on what I do. There are alot of possibilities. I do play guitar, but the Voyager is my real weapon of choice.

I really love having the Moogers assembled like they are because I can easily arrange them in any order. Sometimes I set something up and spend days tweaking it, covering so much ground, then I'll start taking the cables and switching them all around and just make freaked out sounds.

I like unpredictability.

What's the treadle pedal to the left of the Tone Press/Analog delay? What do the small white buttons on the bottom of it do?
Guitar Effects Pedals by Roger Mayer - Vision Wah (http://www.roger-mayer.co.uk/vision.htm)
It's a Roger Mayer Vision Wah, The buttons are used individually or together to change the tone of the sweep. There are 16 different combinations, and on either side of the base are 2 knobs for volume and Wet/dry mix nice wah, low and no moving parts other than the treadle itself, it uses a sensor to detect the rocking motion.
Is that a newer Fluttertone? Mine has the led at the top and the volume control on the side. Great tremolo.
I don't know much about it actually, I bought it used and it was inoperable, I sent it back and it was repaired by the builder free of charge nice choppy trem, it is misspelled so I believe it is an earlier model, essential for the Warren Haynes stuff.

Love the scrub bottoms! It looks like you have them plugged into the CE-1 for some extra mojo! Are they PTP and true bypass? :D

Seriously though - some great stuff there!

Cheers,

Edward

Hahaha Thanks Edward, I'm so glad you noticed that, it really does look like the scrub ties are boosting the pedal. It's a pretty rare mod, less tone suckage...what can I say, I'm proud of my DIY squalor!

Thanks for the suggestion, I really like the idea of keeping the trem before the delay and reverb, and it seems like switching the dd-2 to be infront of the dm-2 is the way to go. I'll test it out asap and let you know!

That was the problem I had for years. This one has longer feet and a lower centre of balance, plus it locks at the bottom under the feet.

I made a few for a couple of prominant players years ago and they were very happy with them. The body holders are adjustable for mandolin, acoustic, banjo etc.

You can put a heavy jazz bass on one side and a ukalele on the other, kick it and it wont budge. The hanger angles are pretty steep.

Sorry, guess that wasn't very clear. By "footprint" I mean the actual outline/space that the pedal takes up on your board. From looking at the pics, the Eventide seems somewhere between the DD20 and the DL4 in size, but previously I thought it was bigger than that. Just curious if I can squeeze it onto my downsized board.
EDIT: Never mind, I found the answer in the Timefactor Round II thread. They really are smaller than a DD20? Man, I gotta come up with $400. And another amp to run in stereo.

The finishing touch was getting my Bill Lawrence cable kit today, and it was a snap to make the right length patch cords - even had enough left for a nice guitar instrument cable. Jahn, Cool board, man! Question: Are you by any chance going for The Edge type tones? I ask 'cause you've got both the verbzilla (that "shimmer" effect), and the DMM... If so, tell me how you're finding that to work, please! Cheers.

Uh oh, you caught me. Yep, in the recent past I had used just a T.Rex Replica, but I felt it was not quite analogy enough. This way, you can use the DMM for old school chorus/reverb/delays, but when comboed with the unabashed digital shimmer of the Verbzilla, you unleash the best of both worlds. I've even tried the short delays on the Verbzilla with the reverb of the DMM - that'll mess with your brain, man.

Great board and I love the vintage gear, particularly the ludwig phaser!! I notice you have a fuzz factory and a fuzz probe. How are you using them together, and which would you recommend out of the two? Cheers.

i love the ludwig too. sad to see it go :NUTS

just got the probe, don't think its staying on for the simple fact a wah probe will be here one day this week. might use it in a separate chain for some theremin stuff. you can't tell by the board, but i play indie-pop  and usually play clean. I do have the Roland Chorus in the chain, its on the amp.

Those are the run of the mill switchcraft flat head plugs found on fender amps :) Had to go that way to really save space and squeeze everything into a PT2

its not a space echo, its a Digital Chorus DC-50. Same year/chip as the CE-1 with an echo mode too.

WHEW finally my first ever pedalboard is all laid out and complete! The finishing touch was getting my Bill Lawrence cable kit today, and it was a snap to make the right length patch cords - even had enough left for a nice guitar instrument cable. Clarity is ridiculously improved, you don't need an EQ or boost to clear a strong clean signal anymore through the chain - bye bye mud! So anyhow, here you are, all zip tied and ready to go!

Ahhhhhh -- you were the one that got the hangul fuzz. I remember seeing that up a long while back and seeing the SOLD sign. Got a vexter fuzz to try and ease the pain, Jahn.

do you really need the buffer on a board that size?

somedude

do you really need the buffer on a board that size?

Keeps the tone consistent. Otherwise my guitar brightens up a lot when I turn the delay on, then gets kinda dull when I turn it back off again.

I run it last in line, after the delay.

All right- I'll play.
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i230/disasterevolved/IMG_0343.jpg

Obviously, there's a couple spaces left for expansion, and a chunk of the left side gets taken up by my Marshall footswitch when I use two amps. The silver box that says "R" and "T" is my Trem/Verb/Eff Loop switcher for my Mesa.

The signal flows thusly: Fuzz Factory>Modded Crybaby>Modded Big Muff>FD2>EB Vol>MM4>DM4.
Sometimes my Pod XTL gets tacked on to the end. The Tuner is connected to the EB tuner out- I don't notice any tone loss. The whole mess is powered by a PP2+ under the tier. Cabling is Mogami, built my me.
The open spaces are (at the moment) resereved for some kind of octave device, an effects looper, and a compressor.
