Hi, great board! Just wondering - whats the supa-slomatic cheese? Is it a Big Cheese fuzz clone? (Because I'd love to know where to get a good one of those!)
Thanks. It is indeed a big cheese clone made by Mark at www.olcircuits.com. He sells a DIY kit and a premade pedal. I believe the price is $160 which is very reasonable considering how versatile it is. Drop him a line- he is a really great guy to deal with :AOK

Very cool rig, man. Excellent pedal choices.
I've got some questions, if you don't mind:) :
1)While they're two fairly "different" delays (I think), how does the Malekko compare to the Echoczar? I wanted to get a Malekko a while back, but passed when my name came up. I'm also on the echoczar list, so I'm wondering if a Malekko would hold me over 'till the eczar arrives.
2)How are you finding the Openhaus compared to all your other drive pedals? While ones has it replaced? Do you find that it can cover all "drive tones" well? I love mine, and I'm having a Dove shipped to me next week.
3)Do you wanna' give me your DM-3? :o

3)Do you wanna' give me your DM-3? :o
1) the malekko is actually pretty different from the echoczar. the decay is "thinner" sounding, and i think that the delay as a whole sounds a little thinner. mine is a "bright" one so i expected that. the dark version is pretty different (different from the bright e600 and the 'czar). as far as holding you over...the echoczar honestly isn't as magical as some people would like you to believe, so if you've used analog delays before you'll be pretty familiar with its sound.
2) the openhaus didn't really replace anything because it's the only real high gain distortion pedal that i've had (besides a metal zone :( ). i use my eternity and timmy more actually, and i really don't feel that openhaus crosses into their territory very much. i couldn't get by with just the openhaus, that's for sure.
3) i think the dm3 is gonna stay at my house for a bit :D

I finally finished my pedalboard!!!!...what a tedious yet enjoyable task. After swapping and trying out a heap of pedals I think I'm finally comfortable with my current board (for now). Heres what i'm using:
-Vox 847 Wah with Garmopat mods (true bypass, blue LED, and loads of trimpots and new components)
-Catalinbread Hyperpak
-Electro-Harmonix Russian Big Muff with Mohomods..mods
-Hartman SFZ Dual Stage Fuzz
-Tech 21 Sansamp GT2
-MXR Phase 90 with JoeDiecast script mod
-Dunlop TS-1 Tremolo
-Boss DM-2 Analog Delay
-Line 6 DL4 Delay/Looper (Used for Delays)
-Line 6 DL4 Delay/Looper (Used for Looper)
-J.Everman "The Pot" Volume/Tone control
-Planet Waves Chromatic Tuner
-Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus Power Supply
& to keep everything neat I'm using planet waves cables and connectors.

Peace Strat58
Thanks man. Right now i'm using the batteries as the pedal has a battery kill switch when not in use. However, I've ordered 2 battery clip power cables from voodoo labs as I sometimes forget to kill the switich after playing. Other than my delays this is my most cherished pedal and Theo Hartman provides THE GREATEST customer support I've ever encountered.

First timer here! There's a RC20XL of the board. Some changes I hope to make soon are... Get a Pedaltrain Jr with PP2 mounts, trade the BD2 out for a Zendrive, and get the TS808 modded by Keeley. Probably not too difficult to tell the kind of music I play. Hah. I use Fenders and run this into a Super Reverb.
Chain is: Strobostomp (TB mode)>RK Compressor>TS808>Keeley Phat BD-2> DLS Rotosim>Maxon AD999>T-Rex Replica (All Cornish cables)http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y205/hurleysurf/IMG_1894.jpg

Hi with kill switch you mean the power is of when the leds are out ?
Hmm I didn't know that, and agree Theo does some great customer service, wish more people tries his pedals.
By the way I have placed a soundfile from the Hartman 2 Stage Fuzz and teh Area 51 on the GP.

Nono, when the pedal is bypassed ("Led out"), the battery is still being used as my cable is still connected to the input jack. When I'm done playing, instead of unplugging my cable from the input I simply hit the kill switch and it cuts out the battery supply.
Edit: I forgot to add that I tried listening to your soundclip but that site doesn't really work for me...do you by any chance have that clip up on soundclick or myspace?

I'm a Big zvex fan- At first I was so excited to get A box of metal, got it ripped it open and it sounded bad *Oh &#*@* :crazy after playing with the knobs and my amp for about an hour I dialed in really killer tones *Relief*. Its not in any way an "out of the box" super pedal. Really had to mess with it to get it sounding like the zvex demo vids.
The moog delay - where to start.. Quality out of this world. The repeat fidelity is spectacular. Its Warm & true sounding not dark- I think this is a big misconception that allot of people have. Especially when comparing against other delays or judging it via youtube samples.
True analog voltage controlled delay is a different breed of delay pedal.
Pretty much you can toss the standards of what a delay should do once you use the moog, its really not typical in any way.
I did a great deal of try & buy when lookin for an analog delay. Bought, borrowed, instore demo'd lots of pedals: AD-999, Keeley AD-9, Fulltone Tape echo + lots more. The moog had the most features, best tonal quality to my ears & I like knobs/switches galore. so I did the buy it now on teh ebays :)
Tone- amazing for the following
Anything pink floyd
Rockabilly/ Quick slap back
Van halen esque stuff
Reggae snare hits and pulsations.
For the live players reading this - Get a digital delay to go with this- you'll need tap tempo & presets :)

duke how do you like the phi ecolution? i have the EP-1 and its freakin awesome, really wanted to check out the delay and attack/sustain modelers as well.
It's a fantastic delay. I use the multi-tap function often, so for me there is no alternative. If you can lay down the dough I'd seriously recomend giving it a go. I got mine moded so I can control the 'Blend' function with an expression pedal. It's nice.

nice.
I've been building pedals lately and enjoying it immensely! Several of my builds (two modified kits, two perf-board builds) turned out well enough to claim real estate on my pedal board. I pulled the fuzz pedals from my board as I only use them occasionally and always powered by battery. Here's the current layout:
http://home.centurytel.net/flanneldrawers/Pedalboard_1-29-2008.JPG
Signal chain:
AnalogMan Mini Bi-Comp -> Tuner mute / Buffer (tuner out routed to StroboStomp tuner) -> MXR script-logo Phase 45 -> Lovepedal COT-50 (blue LED) -> DJOD-1 (Eternity inspired overdrive) -> DJOD-2 (Landgraff DO inspired overdrive / modified GGG ITS8 kit) -> DJOD-3 (Landgraff MO'D inspired distortion / modified BYOC Mighty Mouse rev.2 kit) -> MI Audio Crunch Box -> Tremolo (modified EA circuit)
The blue switch box is a patch switcher for a Boss SE-70 processor running 100% wet in the amps parallel effects loop. Used for Delay and Chorus effects.
The black switch box is the Clean/OD & Reverb switch for a Fuchs ODS-50 SLX 1x12 combo.

Big +1 to those Switchcraft plugs. I often wondered why so few others use 'em. They seem to take up the least space of all the other right angle plugs, they're time & roadie tested to be about the most forgiving muthas too. I like to solder the shield to the big "dish" around the perimeter and change the stock screws for Allen head machine screws. By the way your board looks like it sounds supremely awe inspiring. still gotta get a board.
and im waitin for my lovepedal 200lb fuzzbox
and despite the amount of boosts i have, im thinking either a beano or sunlion as a sub. the KOT, my amp and the 12axe all stack really nicely with my java boost. wanna give the beano a spin.
but this is the most happy ive been with my setup.
KOT is distortion on the right and overdrive on the left.
Ulbrick 12axe is my main overdrive tone. the KOT side is used to boost things along or be used for a slight breakup for my amp.
Ulbrick megalodon has a variety of roles including clean boost, gain boost and standalone drive imitating a hot marshall @ low gain.

Both of these are built by a dude in town named Tim Creek. I'm not endorsed or anything, just love both of these and figured they'd be the two all you nerds couldn't immediately pick out...

some questions, if you don't mind...
How are you liking the Maneco stuff?
Do you find them to be reliable enough for live use?
How do the three that you own differ?
What sorts of applications do you use them for? looper or delay... or both?
Also, could you tell me some more about all the BJF's in the picture except the PGC, SBEQ & DRD?
Thanks in advance...
Kenny, That's also a very awsome board you've got there...
questions for you:
how are you liking the Cornish pedals?
are you able to justify the prices?
how is the SS-3 compared to other ODs you've tried?
How are the G-2 and P-2 compared to other fuzz pedals you've tried?
How do the G-2 and P-2 compare/differ?
Thanks in advance, I ask all the questions 'bout the Cornish stuff, 'cause I've wanted to get one or two for a while, but the price always kinda' scares me off at the last minute. I was even on the list for a TES, but got off...

I love all of Pete's pedals and to me they are well worth the money for studio use. Live I could get by just as well with any number of OD's and or boost pedals, but in the studio you can really dial in just the right amount of grit and gain. The buffers also keep the straight guitar tone sounding awsome which may be my favorite plus about them.
It's hard to compare OD's I think because they all just sound and feel so different. What works for you wont be right for someone else. As an example, I simply cannot understand how someone can possibly like a Tube Screamer or one of their clones. Even though a lot of guys love em and sound great with one, It gives me the most post nasaly drip sound imaginable. So all I could offer in comparison is that the SS-3 puts you in the TS range of OD, but it always remains full and balanced, more like you just kicked the gain of your amp up. I also had an SS-2 which I sold after picking up an SS-3 because I felt that the low end roll off really helps with amps with a more robust bottom like my FTR37.
The G-2 and P-2 while technically being fuzzes don't sound to me like other fuzzes I have (Fuzz Factory, Pro Bender, Experience). The G-2 still retains a clarity that still alows you to play chords with a lot of distortion. The P-2 has even more distortion and is bigger and creamier sounding. It can get some pretty massive distortion, but not in a Fuzz Face sort of way. The P-2 may be my favorite although I probably get the most use out of the SS-3.
I should also mention that Pete's boost is probably the best I've heard for just taking the sound you have going and making it a million times louder without changing the tone of it.
Kenny,
Nice Stuff! You play out at all? We moved to Sherman Oaks last April, and I've been itching to get with some guys.
I just went last night and sat in for a couple of sets with some friends that have a Wednesday night house gig at Pancho's in Manhattan Beech. It's a standing invitation and I try to get out of my studio and exercise my live gig brain a little when I can. Sometimes my gig brain seems like it suffers from Alzheimers.
radcliff cant wait to see the other 2 boards
They're in the works right now. One will be a small board with just fuzzes and a few other od's and distortions. Kind of a psychedelic bong distortion board. The other one will be a stereo board with some other delays and stereo fx.

Here is an update of my board:
http://web.mac.com/shawnthorne/iWeb/Site/Pedal%20Board_files/IMG_1047.jpg
I know it's messy but there is a reason behind the current state. I'm going to be transplanting everything to a PedalTrain in the near future. I'm just waiting for the pedal board junction box I ordered from LoopMaster to show up. They made the handy micro A/B box in the bottom right corner. Once that arrives, I'm going to transplant everything to the new board, rewire and tidy it up. I think this setup is going to be in place for awhile. I'll post an update once I get it to the new board.

Finally (well almost) put it together. Tentative layout, would like more juice, (eight isn't enough!) Has anyone ordered a daisy chain type thing for their PPII+? Wouldn't mind some advice about 'under' board routing wires on a pedaltrain as well...Sounds awfully good so far. Working on balancing levels etc. right now.

Could you compare either the Dove or Openhaus to any of your BJF dirt pedals? Are you happy with both the dove and openhaus? Do you find a difference in the way they sound in different parts of your chain? I ask, 'cause they're supposed to sound good anywhere in the chain. My Openhaus, I find, really does sound good (and the same) just about anywhere. Also, how do you like the powerglide and halophaze?
Lastly, could you tell me more about the snow white fuzz (I know it's a customshop) and the purple humper? Thanks! Sweetest board! Cheers,

The pinkish one is a boost and the copper one is an orange squeezer compressor - both homemade - the boost built by a friend and the comp by me. Both enclosures came prepainted from pedalpartsplus.com (http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/). Great prices and great parts.

that's the G system. works GREAT for me. i tweeked the stereo chorus in the TC G to sound like the fast setting on the Rotosphere, so now i can leave it at home mostly. i kinda down graded in that aspect. less power issues when playing live (G system powers everything else), but the Rotosphere sure looks cool on any pedalboard!

Thanks...this board turned out to my the most simple, but versatile board to date. The BR is my favorite OD -- it's definitely a "rat" on steroids. It has a good Zep vibe going for it (especially with a Tele). Also, the other two ODs are a Keeley BD-2 and an Analogman TS-9.

Thanks! The Rat is an original Rat from the 80's. . . They sound so much better than the newer ones. . . had to look long and hard for that one.
Still waiting on my OD100SE+ to come in, though. . . Then I'll be close to tone nirvana!

i really like it. i have tried just about every delay and the nova has stayed since october, which is a good sign
i really like how the preset switching works, and the tones and subdivision options are great.... and being able to power it off the PP2+ is nice. i missed the looping of my DL4 so i got a Loop Station since the other delays i tried with onboard loopers were disappointing

SORRY about the misunderstanding - it's actually a Furman board with the power supply removed (for more pedals) and stuck under the board to create a slant. . . Again, my apologies. Thought you were asking about the Rat. . . But it's not terribly expensive and does the trick. Was thinking about getting a Voodoo supply, but I like the way my Furman sits underneath. . . Everything's very compact.

Pretty basic board.
The tuner and the delay are separate and going through a loop for now.
I have my pedals staggered (except for the tuner) so I don't have to reach my foot over one pedal to step on another.
I do lose some space this way but I find it very difficult to do this on the fly with any speed or accuracy, especially while singing at the same time. :AOK

hey Pierre, how have you mounted the pedals to the board? it looks very neat!
Could you please post a back shot of your pedalboard ?
I use metal screw: #6-32 x 1" and for some pedals #4-40 x 1". First you drill a hole and then you put the screw by the back of the board... easy.

I kind of like the GSR. It seems to sound better with my setup than the other two. It's more open than the Zendrive and it's easier (for me anyway) to dial in. The E cuts too much bass for chords, but for leads it's awesome. I still have them all, I just like to change around every now and then. Of the 3, if I could only keep one, it would be the Zendrive.

I don't have anything to compare it with as it's my first trem pedal, but I like it better than the trem on all my vintage Fenders. It's built like a tank and sounds great. It's a bit large, that's the only thing I don't like about it.

I did the opposite thing; I sold my Diamond J-Drive TR (which is more or less the same as the Mk3) and have the timmy right now. I'm not sure what you're looking for, but the timmy does everything the J-Drive TR does a bit better, it's even more versatile and on top of it it's smaller. The only difference in sound can be bridged by putting a Burr Brown OPA2134 opamp into the timmy, but it's too subtle to worry about it.

Maybe I'll just save myself the $200 and not get the J-Drive then. I've only heard clips of it and it sounds great. I just got my Timmy yesterday so I haven't explored all of it's different settings just yet. Man, I sure can't stop thinking about that Sun Lion though.

I wired it up with Horizon Silverlines cable. Very low capacitance and silver plated conductors. The ends are Switchcraft knock offs and are very nice for a buck each. My next project is a patch bay.

(Maybe I should take this to a side thread? Mods move it if you like...)
I found I got a more convincing Sigur Ros sound when I split my signal and only overdrove one side of the split. So it was always clean blended with overdrive. I found most of their studio stuff I dig (basically Takk...and...umm...yea...just Takk pretty much) had everything doubled with clean and overdriven guitars.

Guitar > Vox Wah > Analogman Sunface or MXR Distortion + > Analogman Beano Boost > Boss CH-1 > Ernie Ball Volume > Analogman a/b/both > Twin Reverb and Bassman. Also an out from the volume pedal to the Boss TU-2. I am currently researching UniVibe pedals for my next purchase.

I'm glad you answered that. I have seen the term come up several times on this board lately and felt like an out of touch, ignorant, old geezer. Have I entered my post-relevant period?
Are there any bands that typify this genre that I could or should be aware of?

Thanks guys! I guess those pedals do give a hint ...ghehehehe
^ yup the muff into chandler tube driver is the give away. that limits it o johnson or gilmour. and the boss roto is the deal breaker.
beautiful board. do you run the sound city and twin stereo out of your board?
Yep...I do.
Signal Path is:
Dynacomp
CS3
Combinator input:
-RAT
-Muff
-TS9DX
-Tube Driver
-Mistress
-Carl Martin Trem o' vibe
Combinator output
Carl Martin Delayla
Deluxe Memory Man
Nova Delay
Nova left output > RT20(with EB VP as expressionpedal) > Sound City 50+
Nova right output > Twin Reverb
I'm looking into getting a GigRig instead of the Combinator though...

looks great! Do you like the sunface? I would recomend when your ready a vibe made by Bob Sweet. He did a reissue of the Ultra vibe dubbed the Ultra vibe II and even though certain circumstances have slowed him down regarding the development of his next vibe, if he decides to go through with it , it will be an exact replica of the old one. Dave Fox also has a new one called the aqua vibe, or if you don't mind waiting its possible that the KR Mega vibe might be right for you.

Yeah, I really like the "post rock" band Jakob. It sounds like the guitarist uses delay, muff/rat, and a volume pedal. Really beautiful atmospheric guitar with string orchestra-like volume swells.

ANDERSDC...how do you like the 3.14?
I have one of lyle's TRIAD's and love it!
I bet the triad is awesome! I really like the 3.14, its the best i have tried. The sound possibilities are very large, so it takes a bit of time to find the right sound :)
The only flaw to me, is that the labels are just stickers. Engraved/printed text on the chassis would be sturdier
stingrey1978 (http://www.thegearpage.net/board/member.php?u=17357): Very cool! Have you grouped the pedals into the 4 TB loops?

I love the sunface. It's not for everyone but for the music I play it works really well. Thanks for the advice on the Uni Vibes. I'll look into those.

anders, yea man brian at loopmaster really did a great job. I have never had a problem with it and it doesn't add alot of weight to the board.
Loop 1 is the Cot 50
Loop 2 OCD
Loop 3 Top boost
Loop 4 Fuzz factory
I use metal screw: #6-32 x 1" and for some pedals #4-40 x 1". First you drill a hole and then you put the screw by the back of the board... easy.
I don't have a back shot of the board yet... soonly.
Tanks,

Could all of this fit on a smaller board? Yes. But I have big feet and use tap tempo a lot (maybe a discredit to our drummer).
I have an order of Bill Lawrence pedalboard cables on the way to clean up the wiring a bit. There is room at the top left to put the footswitches for my Mesa Lone Star Special if I can find them or make them small enough. Above the volume pedal is room for some Loop Master pedalboard patchers.

The board is homemade. Wiring is all homemade Mogami, G+G plugs, and the PP2+ is underneath. The pedals are secured by screws into the existing case holes. All of these pedals have been purchased from TGP except the DMM and the BYOC Armstrong Twin. The wah is a Crybaby that I bought here modded and modded further- Led, True Bypass, Yellow Fasel, internal Q trimmer, numerous circuit mods, Area 51 pot and output buffer. The EXH flanger hoax is on its way out (in the emporium now) and I will fill the space with a BYOC phaser and tremolo. If you've got one of 'em, PM me!

nice. ever consider george l, bill lawrence or lava cables?
black_manta
02-12-2008, 05:59 PM
I really thought about the george l's but it seems the mogami is less bright, and since I used a strat I don't need any extra brightness. The lava cables were outside my budget, and the lawrence seem cool but I wanted the pleasure of soldering everything myself. Plus, I ordered the plugs from RAM for about $3 a piece, and the cable is only 71cents per foot from Performance Audio. I hear great things about Lava (he sells Mogami, too) but I figured I could handle the job sourcing my own supplies.

Agreed, I just wired up mine (pic about 2 pages ago) and I used Horizon Silverlines cable (sounds better to me than George L's too) and Switchcraft knock off ends. Soldered them up myself and did the whole board for about $22.00. Once you get past the solder-phobia it's really no big deal. I'll roll my own from now on.
