What's the best 000-sized acoustic guitar in the sub-$500 range (new or used)? The best I've found so far is the Martin 000-x series guitars. Anyone have an opinion on the Blueridge guitars in the $300-500 price range? I haven't found any locally that I can try out. Is there another brand that provides better value in the 000-size?

Go to the Acoustic Guitar Forum and check out the classifieds, you should have several options. Stuff is going pretty cheap over there right now, and other stuff is just sitting there waiting for an offer.

If your OOO size would include other small bodied acoustics check out a used Larrivee L-03 or OM-03. GREAT guitars for the price.

Love the Epiphone Masterbilt 000. Should be able to find one under $500. All solid woods, and a pretty fat neck.

If you can find one in good shape, a made in Japan early 70s Yamaha FG-150 (with the red label) is a great 000-18 clone.

Thanks everyone for the responses so far!

@terrapin - Thanks for the tip. I'll check out the AGF and see what's for sale over there.

@joeburke - My experience with Epiphones has been less than stellar. Are the masterbuilt's appreciably better?

@pater - How is the quality of the Recording Kings? I played one a few years ago and wasn't impressed.

@THebert - I had forgotten about the Guild. I'll have to see if I can find one of those locally.

@zumaboy - Thanks for the tip about the Yamaha's. I'll keep an eye out for one of those.

Re: the Recording King quality. I play a 1944 Gibson Southern Jumbo, and the Recording Kings I've played over the last year have impressed the hell out of me.

A little more research has turned up the Taylor 114 series guitars that can be found used in the $500 range. Anyone have any opinions of those?

For around $500 an early 1970s S Yairi would do it. I have an early 1970s Alvarez that I got for about $130. It sounds really good.

The Cort L500C is fantastic, and well below $500!! I used to have one a long time ago...

If you want a fuller and more open sound, check out the Cort NTL20 as well...my favorite acoustic:

I almost grabbed the Blueridge I tried, it was really a good guitar, but I went nuts and got the 79 Martin M36 ( over 500 LOL )

I didn't realize the Seagull Folk model was a 000-sized guitar...I thought it might be a little larger. Anyone played one of those? The Seagull Grand parlor model I had about 10 years ago was really nice. Not sure how good the quality is these days.

I got a Blueridge a couple of days ago, thumbs up from me!

I avoid threads asking for "best" anything, because there isn't any such thing as "best".

That said, the Seagull Maritime is an amazing, Canadian-made, all wood, 000-size guitar that impresses the hell out of me.

$599 (which, yes, is slightly above your stated budget) at GC, MF, etc.

IMO, it's way more guitar that you get with any Korean import.
