I hadn't watched it in many years (since I was a kid), but recently picked up a copy of the DVD from the $5 bin. I must say, I totally agree. I guess I wasn't watching for THAT when I was younger! :)

"Sleazy....Athletic....Demure"
So many great lines in that movie!
I also love how the "Open your mind" part of the movie is played in the intro to Mudvayne's LD50 album.
Whenever I think of the little weird "Quato" or whatever it's name is, I think of the line from Waterworld: "He's a mutato!!!!"
Another ridiculous movie with great lines.

They just don't make em like that anymore! A couple times a year I watch Total Recall and The Running Man back to back, they go so well together.
Anyone heard of ArnoCorps? I can't remember where I heard about them but they do songs based on Arnie movies. Total Recall is my favorite of theirs. Someone made a video for it using clips from the movie, its freakin' awesome!

"sorry to be such a Indian giver"
but my favorite line is, after they discover the turbinium reactor and Rachel Ticotin's character asks whether there'd be enough air for everybody:
"Sure!"
The guys in the TV show, Undeclared, are always tossing Total Recall lines at each other. A little reason to love that show.

I really think this would have been a much better movie had it not been an "Arnold movie." The plot is really interesting. Personally, I think if they'd have treated it more like Blade Runner, it would have been fantastic.

Anyone see the full trailer for the Total Recall remake? Looks pretty good....Jessica Biel fighting Kate Beckinsale?? I wonder how close to the original script they keep it, saw no mention of Mars in the trailer.

Budgetary issues forced a relocation from Mars to Minneapolis. Other than that it is surprising similar.

As far as Total Recall being one of the best movies ever, that would need to be a remarkably long list of movies, and this film would still be hugging the bottom quartile. I am skeptical of Total Recall even qualifying as one of the best movies released that year.

They do, indeed. Half the time the production is screwy, but his concepts are amazingly well done.
If you haven't already, you should read "Divine Invasions" (a bio of PKD). It's quite sad, but it gives tremendous insight into his thought process and influences.
Also, his short stories are usually quite good. My favorite is "Autofac".
