With all the debates among experts on TGP how often do you change your opinion on a topic as a result of either arguing it with someone here on TGP or reading two others hash it out?

rarely, but often i walk away better informed.I don't recall ever having changed my mind, but I have definitely been enlightened to different viewpoints that are deserving of respect. It does seem to me that the people who are most effective at offering a decent argument are able to do so in a post or two. The more they post, the more likely they are just defending a position without offering a compelling argument.

If I know I've come to a snap conclusion on something, like a pedal that I just didn't like the looks of, I will sometimes change my mind if I see honest indepth info on that product. But if I've personally heard something that I thought didn't sound quality, the only way to change my mind is to proove that some variable was off when I heard it, and then let me re-hear it with that variable fixed.

I seldom change my opinion on a subject, but I have changed my opinion on a few people based upon how they conduct themselves in their "debates".

If I see new (to me) information posted, I will investigate on my own and if the results of that agree with the posters, then my opinion will change... but that is ONLY if I can verify the info. through personal research... or, occasionally, if the info comes from someone who I know and trust... I marked 'sometimes'

I can't think of any instance, but sometimes a topic will come up that I've never really thought about, and I might form an opinion based on it being brought up here.

Poll should have an in-between choice like, "I sometimes learn things in a TGP debate that make me reconsider or question my position." It's not like debating serious issues is totally pointless unless lots of people change their minds. People can gain respect for and understanding of another perspective without actually changing their position. I think that's a good thing.

The arguer that does not spell like a chimpanzee has a good chance of changing my opinion.
Over the years, my opinion of the death penalty has changed due to TGP.

Most of the really serious topics aren't allowed, and most of the other stuff isn't that controversial from what I've seen, so I haven't had my mind changed on anything.

I've formed opinions on subjects I had no opinion on, but things I already have an opinion on usually don't change because of conversations here. As Phoenix mentions, I have learned things and gained respect for opposing views though.

My opinion is just that, mine. While I have respect for the opinions of others, I'll never change mine on subjective matters such as Relics Suck, Best IPA, Teles Rock, etc.
Read my signature - it seems to capture the whole of TGP.

I'll gladly change mine...
If you change yours - FIRST...
P.S. - I've never had to change my opinion (on any pub topic) based on that qualifier... :)

I completely agree. At this point in life, I have formed my opinions based on the information and experienced I have gathered, so not much is knee jerk anymore. Frankly, I like having my views challenged when done in a civil and logical way.
The process definitely can give you a healthy respect for other view points. It seems this sort of thing is more uncommon that I prefer in our society today.

The internet is full of people choosing up polarized positions and then simply hurling crap at each other. I don't consider myself a crap hurler. There are certain things I know from my own experience, and certain things I have strong feelings or opinions about. There are other things I have perceptions about, but have never experienced. In those cases I try to be willing to learn from the experience of others.
I don't "argue" with people here. I express my opinions, and listed while they express theirs. There have been many times when I've learned something or had my perceptions changed by the strength of other people's experiences or opinions.
